Retro games and emulation - Discuss retro shit in case you're stuck in the past or a hipster

Is a 2070 Super good enough for the rpcs3 and Xenia emulators at 60fps? I haven't seen a video featuring that gpu in a while. How's Xenia's progress these days?

Even some archive links require log-ins now: "Files marked with lock are not available for download."

maybe it's a problem unique to Retroarch
I've tried some games on standalone versions of Vice and hosx64, and some for other systems like CPC and ZXS, it's not. Whdload for Amiga, and to significantly lesser extent MSA for Atari ST, remove a lot of the hassle, despite not always working with every emulator. Sadly, afaik, there's no such thing for 8bit systems.

FWIK emulation is mostly cpu-heavy, I use those two on a GTX 980, on RPCS3, so far most games run at playable speeds, if the game itself isn't fps limited.
Xenia is slowly getting better, most games run fine, but: it needs dx12 for most games to look as they should, and it's still quite behind in terms of visual enhancements, requires a beefy system to upscale to even 1080. Also for some reason, recent versions no longer work with drag'n'dropping folders or xbox live files, you have to use the .xex files, which you may need to extract first.

I have an Intel Core i9-9900K so I should be good. Thanks again

Just found out the 8bitdo N64 controller won't be released for like two months.

What's the take on this "Saffun" N64 controller?

>N64 controller
>look inside
>equilateral octagonal joystick gate
I'm genuinely sick and tired of this shit. How hard is it to maker proper N64 joystick gate? Why can't they stop being lazy, go on CAD, and make a proper joystick with a proper gate that isn't made of cheap chinese plastic that wears out?

I know that controller, it blows. See if you can sell it and get a controller like the Retrofighters' BattlerGC or the NYXI's Warrior both of which are also compatible with the original Gamecube because of a dongle, and PC too. Switch controller have "Digital triggers" (reads: digital buttons. Just like ones on the PlayStation 1; at least the PlayStation 2's Dualshock 2 had pressure sensitivity) rather than analogues.
The last Nintendo controller that indeed had two analogue triggers/buttons were the Gamecube ones.
Both of the two listed controller may not look the best and require some minor thinkering, but least work as intended because of the two analogue buttons/triggers on the back, plus the BattlerGC gets recognized as an xInput-compliant device IIRC, just with the face buttons being on a non-xbox configuration, big deal.
It's $50 though...and with price increases I'm not sure if that's "normal" anymore or if it's overpriced meme shit. The Logitech F310 is now around $20 and that's bare-bones at best.

I'm sad I'll give up my HORI controllers. The other one is having issues now, too...but they looked so nice.

Don't tell lil bro Nintendo has been a gimmick company since the 64. What does the Switch 2 need? A MOUSE FEATURE!

It's about time Nintendo got a mouse again, finally we have some semblance of feature parity with the SNES. Now bring back the Wii's motion sensor bar and the 3DS's 3D screen and the Virtual Boy's 3D screen and the Power Glove.

Three-pronged controller was the 64 gimmick, nonstandard microdiscs was the GC gimmick. They weren't huge gimmicks, to be fair, explicable as "evolution", but they are gimmicky, and died out with the console.
The controller wasn't a gimmick, a standard hadn't been set yet, each system had a different layout. As for the discs, it was primarily an antipiracy solution, not a gimmick.
