Overscan.for the love of God how did this shit work on real Trinitrons back in the day?
Oh shit, Marble Blast Ultra! With mod support and 32-player online multiplayer! There was an old PC port that was going to be scrapped but got leaked (or something?) that has visual issues at higher resolutions, and I think Xenia has issues with the music, so this is great to see.
And yet, no Banjo-Kazooie or Paper Mario, despite those games getting decomped. Sigh.
Rayman Redemption is a remake of Rayman 1 with an entire new world, new levels in most returning worlds, expanded and unified level design, new enemies and bosses including a true showdown with Mr Dark, customization through skins or Ting sound effects, new objects and power-ups, and Rayman starting with all of his abilities unlocked.Anyone got any recommendations of games along those lines? Fangames that aren't just shitty romhacks made harder but taking a base game and enhancing the absolute living shit out of it with quality of life changes? I guess technically THUG Pro counts but I'm talking more self contained games, especially parts of a series that allow you to pretty much have every character in the entire series to play as.
There are more Super Smash Bros. mods than I know what to do with, but special mention goes to Smash Remix for the original. The mechanics are the same as the original (maybe slightly balanced?) but there are way more characters, way more stages, new modes and even a few more items. Just be warned that the new alternate 1P Mode is way too difficult; anything above the easiest difficulty is a giant unfair fuck-you.So playing decomp'd Zelda made me remember some of the best 'not entirely emulation' fangames like Power Bomberman and Streets of Rage Remake, both of those were ridiculously fun and basically cut through all the red tape to make definitive versions of those games with EVERYTHING.

Seems to be the standard with fangames. Instead of adding an extreme difficulty for people who have mastered the games they just completely fuck anyone who wants to have fun playing games from their past. Every single Binding of Isaac mod comes to mind.Just be warned that the new alternate 1P Mode is way too difficult; anything above the easiest difficulty is a giant unfair fuck-you.
They kinda-sorta did that here. There’s a new Level 10 CPU difficulty, but also an “Advanced AI” option separate to level. I don’t know exactly how it compares, but it’s way more challenging than the standard version, and the new 1P Mode (I think it’s called 1P Remix) uses it while the classic 1P Mode still uses the original AI.Seems to be the standard with fangames. To be fair, there are also mods that make the game easier through broken items and other mechanics so it’s a trade-off.Every single Binding of Isaac mod comes to mind.
That is how all "remasters" should be done. Just fix up the original game to take advantage of modern hardware. Stop with the fucking UE4/5/Unity slopThought of another two: Rollcage Redux and Rollcage Extreme. Both are literally just enhanced ports done by the developer so they can work on modern PCs and given away for free. Both aren't that interesting but for throwback PS1 games they're fairly fun.
I used a Hyperkin NES clone. It was the cheapest clone I could find on Amazon and it was an actual Nintendo-on-a-chip (NOAC)Does anyone here have experience using hyperkin clone systems? I've recently bought a mega retron hd, it's pretty nice, even has good hdmi output, it's made me want to try out their snes clone system.
Ryujinx is still around and gets updated just under another fork, Ryubing. I have no clue if it'll be able to tackle Xenoblade X but if it can handle TOTK it'll probably be fine. Emulators and games that run on them are usually a case by case basis but people will probably have a verdict as soon as the XCI file for the game leaks in a couple of days. What is the state of Switch emulation since the big two got taken down? I really want to play the port of Xenoblade Chronicles X since running it via Dolphin is less than ideal, but haven't messed with anything Switch related since prior to Yuzu getting the axe by Nintendo.
In addition to what HexFag said, there’s a popular Yuzu fork called Citron but I haven’t looked into it too heavily yet. What is the state of Switch emulation since the big two got taken down?
Yeah, I imagine playing a Wii U game in Dolphin would be pretty tough.I really want to play the port of Xenoblade Chronicles X since running it via Dolphin is less than ideal, but haven't messed with anything Switch related since prior to Yuzu getting the axe by Nintendo.
It already did, no idea about current compatibility though.Emulators and games that run on them are usually a case by case basis but people will probably have a verdict as soon as the XCI file for the game leaks in a couple of days.
I was trying that Donkey Kong Redux because it addresses the big issue with the original game in that its only 3 levels and that's it. I guess that was addressed in the Game Boy game that has 100 levels but I digress. I liked it but I was reminded of other issues that hamper the game like falling on anything kills you. If you drop down just one floor that kills you. When you grab the hammer, you have to make sure to grab it without landing on an enemy as you grab it and you can't climb ladders, jump, or fall because of fall damage.

I am sure there's a fan game or something that fixes that.
I’m basically just looking for anything that’s like Final Fantasy for the NES/SNES but isn’t filled with gay anime shit like “The power of friendship and love will triumph over evil.” Rom hacks work too.
No nigga. Black Magic and my Masamune will. Let me grind and get cool shit and beat things.
