Just watch as the switch 2 is released sometime next year and doesn't have any of these old games for sale on it. That would totally be a move Nintendo would make.

How much storage would someone need to archive those dump until the 6th gen? I have some 500+GB HDD laying around that I might repurpose for this task.List of where to get roms for whatever system you're looking for including torrents
The classic shit (from Atari to SNES/32X) and handhelds up to GBA we're talking MB's of data so you're golden (the Sega Genesis at most is like 1 GB)How much storage would someone need to archive those dump until the 6th gen? I'd rather install a PS-Io, at least on the fat PS1 model I can use the serial port for SD cards.Reject modernity. Embrace tradition.
Unless something's changed, you do still need to install a modchip to use a PSIO.I'd rather install a PS-Io, at least on the fat PS1 model I can use the serial port for SD cards.
It's true, but that modchip doesn't require me to use CDs.Unless something's changed, you do still need to install a modchip to use a PSIO.
That's bad news for me then, I hope I can stomach it when I get around to it. I've had my eye on Koudelka for a long time.Going though Koudelka now and while I find the premise and especially the voice acting to be great, that gameplay is so rough that it's actually making me consider dropping the game. I thought I had a tolerance for older battle systems (hell I played the original DQ1 and DQ2 a month ago and those aged like fine wine), but with how slow and how BS some of these encounters are, I'm not sure if I'm having very much fun playing it. It also doesn't help that encounters are random and weaknesses are seemingly also random and if you hit a spot they aren't weak to they regenerate their full health bar.
I always have Parasite Eve and Shadow Hearts for a spooky horror JRPG if this game doesn't work out.
It's a very cult game and if the gameplay wasn't so against me, it'd be an excellent experience. I mean it when I say everything else about the game is solid BESIDES the gameplay. The voice acting puts modern voice acting to shame and the mocap is great even with the low poly PS1 models. I might continue it and just speed up the combat encounters and use save-states just to get through it.That's bad news for me then, I hope I can stomach it when I get around to it. Parasite Eve is one of the best PS1 games, combat is fast and has a fair degree of strategy. It's a perfect fusion of Final Fantasy and Resident Evil.
Ironically when it came out, the reverse comparison was usually done. Likewise, Shadow Hearts is a good example of it being done well.Shadow Hearts, despite being tangentially related to Koudelka iirc, has a far better gameplay system from the hour or two I played. Unfortunately whenever I think of "hitting the colors on the wheel in the rhythm in order to do damage" I think of YIIK. Fortunately, attacks don't take seven years like in YIIK.
Koudelka is pretty jank, though I thought The combat was fine. The game is also pretty short at around 10-12 hours, so stick it out if you can. The final boss is really annoying and was a pretty large step up in difficulty. If you want, you can just lose on purpose, which is the canon ending anyways.Going though Koudelka now and while I find the premise and especially the voice acting to be great, that gameplay is so rough that it's actually making me consider dropping the game. Modern clients (like qBittorrent) allow you to pick and choose which files of a torrent to download. So you should be able to grab a specific game from a massive list if you want.I dont like Torrents for Roms to be honest, unless its a huge file. I dont have the time, patience, drive space or bandwidth to download collections of files at once.
This has been true of every torrent client I've used for 15 years. Even my feature light Synology Download Station lets you do that.Modern clients (like qBittorrent) allow you to pick and choose which files of a torrent to download. Only issue is that Aya needed a higher running speed, but I remember it fondly. That's bad news for me then, I hope I can stomach it when I get around to it. I've had my eye on Koudelka for a long time.

Just download fullsets for cartridge systems (they’re tiny), keep them in a separate folder, and curate from there. “No Intro” sets are the ones you want since they have clean dumps of every official game without hacked versions or bad dumps, aside from the occasional Chinese bootleg. Also, Redump is the same as No Intro but for disc-based systems.Only issue is that Aya needed a higher running speed, but I remember it fondly.
Ever since the emudeck client decided to remove yuzu for my own good I've avoided updating anything in my steamdeck setup when it comes to emulation.
Guess I also need to take steps to get everything that is worth it for each system... anybody aware of curated lists per system? I downloaded all of the genesis catalog and at around K I gave up deleting everything that was shit/shovelware and had a SNES one with multiple versions and hacked versions of a game without any clear definition to know which is the "best". Managed to find one for MAME and Neo Geo but would definitely appreciate one for other systems, once I have that in lock I can focus on getting the really obscure gems as well as the fan translations.
I tought of doing that when the raspberry pi had an rca output out of the box, sadly is very underpowered nowadays to do ps1 emulation and onwards without performance issues.I would a set of CRT TV/monitor and mini PC with RetroArch installed
A full dump of any given region for PS1 is around 900gb. Realistically you're gonna need 20+tb solely devoted to retro games if you want absolutely everything up to 6th gen.How much storage would someone need to archive those dump until the 6th gen? Noted. I've around 8tb laying around in 5 spare hard drives doing nothing. Might as well secure the ones I'm interested the most first.A full dump of any given region for PS1 is around 900gb. It'll take a lot of time, but I personally recommend a liberally curated collection. Just download anything that looks remotely interesting or familiar. That's what I've been doing since Emuparadise got slapped by Nintendo and I'm up to 1.30tb (and 900gb of that is 6th gen).
