Oh no, his whole spiel on Gonzo Journalism was beautiful and surprisingly on-point. Apparently, Gonzo Journalism is just a fallback you can use when you've violated every code of ethic. He forgot, y'know, the whole "being witty and incisive" aspect.

I need to write a Kiwi Law Review article about the two-party question. I really have no idea how the legalities fall, though my gut instinct is that Reuben's consent to his own recording would suffice to give Jace consent to record as well.

He knew he got destroyed too. At the end he gives that resigned "fuck it," almost attempting to sound like he really doesn't care and is above it all. Then was going to refuse to post it. He knew what had happened.

There is no issue with consent here. Reuben clearly was aware that Jace was recording the conversation. It's strongly implied that Reuben may have even asked Jace to record it. Reuben didn't start bitching about consent law until after Jace mentioned that he was going to post it. Consent law is about consenting to being recorded, not about consenting to publicity.

It's really sad to see how these people are willing to throw him to the wolves in order to make a point. For them, the ends justify the means, and if they have to sacrifice a few so be it.
