Rick and Morty

I remember really enjoying Rick and Morty first two seasons, but I can't really enjoy the current season. It seems the writers just can't commit to how they want to portray Rick and it changes from him being a sad person who pushes away everyone (the shit episode) to being adored by other without any effort (the dragon orgy episode). Ditto for Morty, where he's either Rick's bitch or starting to stand up for himself, depending on the episode.
Also the plot for the heist film episode felt a lot like the plot of the Inception episode (which is ironic considering it's an heist film without an outright betrayal twist).

Rick and Morty as characters this season just feel all over the place it's like they keep resetting them each episode and ignoring character progress from past seasons to just do the same emotional beats again and again like the ending of the toilet episode just being a copy of the ending of the Hivemind EX-GF episode if you have these story parts they need to progress or regress with a reason not just "lol, new episode needs characters to behave this way so now they do fuck what came before!"

I always had a problem with Harmon's take on Inception since his core criticism of the film is a rule he invented for the episode to criticize the movie. Harmon strikes me as having "I'm the only good writer because these same plot points only work when I'm the one doing it" syndrome. Studying and 'deconstructing' story structure doesn't make you a good writer or even really smart. It's one thing to point out that story telling as a whole is a tried and tired repeat of the same beats and another thing entirely to invent a whole new story telling structure to replace the old one. Dan Harmon is that hack who believes that repeatedly pointing out the predictability in your own writing is the same as being subversive, clever and inventive when it's really just a form of excuse making through self-criticism instead of just using apologia. Dan Harmon views writing like a math problem he can't solve.
The Dragon episode was the best one this season, but that's not saying much.
It was only barely funny because they were as gross as possible but they couldn't even do gross humor right. Not to mention that the whole episode is just one big "bad dragon" reference the same way Bojack Horseman is one big "why the long face" joke.
Look at Primal. That was only 5 episodes in its first stretch, but each episode was unique, interesting, and had character development and emotion. I know R&M is a different kind of show, but in its earlier episodes, it was funny and enjoyable, and here, it just felt like the show equivalent of empty calories. I didn't hate it.
Having rewatched the first episode recently, you could tell the idea was fresh on the writers and the ideas they were conveying at least felt new and snappy to themselves. The exact jokes they made weren't new, even for the time they wrote them but the reason they worked was partly because of the absence of forced self awareness. Their problem now is they've fallen into Dan Harmon's bad habit of constant self evaluation with every written letter instead of allowing themselves to write naturally without constantly looking in a mirror to check for blemishes and warts.

I know I'm making assumptions but my belief is that Primal doesn't have this problem because Tartakovsky has no confusion as to what he wants because he just lets ideas come to him naturally without checking against a checklist of rigid dos and don'ts.

Reddit and Memey is back on May 3rd. A lot of action to be seen, but none of the jokes were that funny.
Oh man those jokes, It must take a 3 Trillion IQ Intellect to make fun of Sentai transformations.

Rick and Morty Truly breaks new fucking ground with every episode.

I took it more as "I'm a weeb writer and I really wish I was writing a Sentai show but I'm writing a satirical comedy instead so I'll just awkwardly wedge my Sentai fanfic into the comedy I'm supposed to be writing and toss in a throwaway remark about it being unnecessary to get away with it."

Also what happened to the suits they used in the purge parody episode? That was more original and less dumb.

Putting down a crisp $100 that Tammy, Phoenix Person don't appear despite being teased this season, Also adding in Evil Morty cause honestly him and his goals are way more interesting than the random shit Rick and Morty get into at times, so god forbid they'd do some exploring on that.

Harmon is a fat fuck and a lazy hack, I do not get why people keep hiring him to lead considering he gets kicked off his own shows because he's such a prick.

They won't do anything with it because they will fuck it up and they know it, and we all know Evil Morty's motives will basically boil down to getting burned by Rick 100 too many times and getting revenge on all Rick-kind.

It feels like the only reason I'm watching this is for the violent segments, anyway- which is about the only things this ugly, unfunny, badly - written, and poorly thought out and executed show has going for it, IMHO. Now, if only Jerry could get killed off - that would be great.

Imagine how much better this voice mail would be if Chevy knew Harmon was a cuck that's dating a woman who eats negro ass. Dan Harmon is not allowed to be snarky he's kissing an ass muncher every day.

Oh look a reference to adderall, thanks Dan. This shit needs to end already, I'm holding out hope that Solar Opposites will be better, seeing as it is free of the Harmon stench.

Is it just me or the “joke” of Dan Harmon using Rick as a mouthpiece to complain about tropes he doesn’t like getting old?
It's all getting old. A huge part of this show was contrasting silly and serious, but even that feels tired now. Harmon's output is the sort of drug you can only use so many times before it stops working. He has specific formulas for everything and once you plot those the thrill is gone.

I'll give em this, the action doesn't look as cheap as this Studio DEEN monstrosity.
Even when it's shitty CG, the animation is still stilted, brittle and limited. Actually, it's even worse than the show proper. The fight choreography is garbage too.

Those are supposed to be jokes? I thought that was Dan breaking the 4th wall and condescending straight to the audience that they have shit taste in anything/everything not Rick and Morty.
