I can't help but feel this season is about how Rick's affecting the rest of his family.
Morty has a murderous violent side that comes out from time to time, he expects the worst out of Rick, views nothing as having meaning and if need be will part ways with Rick. He's not completely submissive anymore, and some parts about him now reminds me of The Good Morty. Summer, as I've mentioned before, is running away from normality. She was the one desperate to get Rick back at the beginning of s3, was willing to live in a cannibalistic wasteland until it turned into suburbia (resulting in her leaving her husband), and now we have her getting high. Beth is so desperate to keep her father in her life she ended her marriage, tried to stonewall a therapist and even mocked her children to defend Rick. Jerry has been left with nothing except the occasional whisper that he is a loser, which is sad because we have seen Jerry can step up to the plate in desperate situations.
And in the end, even Rick's affected by his own intelligence. His interdimensional travels have left him viewing nothing is sacred, everything can be replaced because of the infinity of the multiverse. We have seen him suicidal in the past, and it could very well be that he's trying everything he can not to deal with his own feelings even if there isn't no tragic backstory to assign some meaning in his actions.
