Long, philosophical answer: Because people like Bob are like the villains from the Lord of the Rings series. Tolkien conceived of Evil as a force that didn't have the power to make its own creations, it could only corrupt and twist creations made by others. Creation is an act of love and positivity, and thus, as a concept, it can't be grasped by the vengeful and selfish. Thus, evil beings must take something pure and despoil it in a cruel mockery of the creation process.

Short answer: People like Bob are lazy and don't want to go to the trouble of making a new IP. It's so much easier to commandeer an existing IP and warp it to reflect your own hateful sensibilities. (Bonus points if said IP was something that was created and beloved by shitlords.)

Call me crazy and I’ve yet to find any evidence to back this up, but I think Obama’s 2008 election kinda triggered the SJW phenomenon Bob’s a part of. I think that’s when all of them started to bitch about how LGBT, POC, women, and minorities are protrayed in entertainment and in culture as well.
