How will Bob react to seeing the Mario film?

It doesn't matter what the character does. It matters more what the character looks like. "Arbitrary diversity is a good thing. Muh representation. Look at this gay character, they're so gay I can't believe how gay they are." A characters skin color, or what genitals they like is unimportant. That's not how a human being acts, that's how a fucking caricature acts. I was gonna argue that human's don't behave like that, but people like Bob and his "friends" do. There's no subtlety, no nuance. Everything is black and white, good and bad.

Think about this, what was Black Panther's character arc? What did he struggle against? What were his character flaws?

Call me crazy and I’ve yet to find any evidence to back this up, but I think Obama’s 2008 election kinda triggered the SJW phenomenon Bob’s a part of. I think that’s when all of them started to bitch about how LGBT, POC, women, and minorities are protrayed in entertainment and in culture as well.

Like the other day in my English 303 class, my professor was bitching about how people were mocking her for making a big deal out of Wonder Woman in the theaters as the first woman blockbuster when’s there Sarah Conor and Ellen Ripley, whom she criticized them for being masculine, among others and said that anyone who argues about that should shut the fuck up.

I think what I’m seeing with Black Panther and The Last Jedi are SJWs having a goal of running the Star Wars and MCU into the ground with politically correct identity politics and the filmmakers having to pander to them because “diversity” and “inclusion”.

And TBH your English teacher sounds like a ditz. Sarah Connor and Ellen Ripley both have motherly aspects, which at the time was considered typically feminine, whereas Wonder Woman...gets angry and fights things. Which makes her John Wayne with tits.
Ironic in that some criticized Gal Gadot was too "feminine" in appearance and that someone who was more muscular should have been Wonder Woman.

And given his blind hatred for the DCEU, Bob doesn't see that having Aquaman not being a blonde hair, blue-eyed white guy is quite a change from past versions of the character (okay, he still has blue eyes). While WB has not made a big deal that "Aquaman is brown!" (yet?), this upcoming DCEU entry could have some subtle social commentary.

Black Panther's character arc was "I'll never be as good as my father/ I am not ready to be King/ I must protect Wakanda" to "Wow, my dad and my country are kind of full of assholes, and we have done some stupid shitty things in the past" to " I will not let the mistakes or the glories of the past define me or limit me, I will do what I can because I am the one that exists and I have the power to affect positive change" It's hardly a revolutionary arc, and it's hilarious that everyone wants to take the villain's arc as the positive one when his entire character arc is "The sins of the white man ('s ancestors) are unforgivable, so let me do them back at them, even though I'm really just mad at my uncle for killing my dad."

As for the English prof, how old is she? I bet you that Ripley and Sarah Connor don't count because they're A: of the last generation and B: not treated as being special explicitly because they were women. Wonder Woman is very much glamorized.

She's like in her thirties, so she probably saw them on video. But here's the thing, I argue that Sarah Connor and Ripley never bitched about patriarchy in their movies and how they managed to kick the villains ass and still be strong woman and yet she said that they never were strong representations for feminism, despite the fact that they are way, way more iconic that Rey and weren't Mary Sues.

She also argue that anyone has a racial bias and relates that to people not liking Black Panther because of the cast being mostly black. Nothing wrong with the cast themselves, but it's super annoying when people call me a racist for not liking a mediocre MCU movie. And I'm not looking forward to this shitshow next year with Captain Marvel.

A question. Has Bob ever sperged about Charlie Baker? If he hasn't I wouldn't be surprised. Superior Massachusetts having an Inferior Republican Governor is probably a tad embarrassing for Bob.
In fact aside from Deval Patrick's 2 terms from '07 to '15 Massachusetts has had only GOP Governors since 1990. This fact somehow seems to have slipped Bob's mind...

well people like Bob have rather selective views on facts so he likely seethes in private and ignores it in favor of more important things to him like video games, mario and pop culture

:offtopic:That should like the film critic I mentioned a couple pages earlier who has a burning hatred for the DCEU. When the topic of Chief from Wonder Woman came up, he complained how bad a stereotype a character he was because... smoke signals. Never mind the fact that it made sense given the time period. He also glibly dismissed Eugene Brave Rock's contribution to the character when he introduced himself as the trickster Napi from Blackfoot legend. While it was not a major plot point, I thought it was interesting nonetheless and perhaps opened the door for other pantheons to appear.:offtopic:

But in the end, people like Bob and the unnamed film critic will always be selective and self-serving in their arguments.

Mark my words. Captain Marvel is going to be awful. I'm going with Shazam.

He's actually the most popular governor in the country right now. In a January 2018 WBUR/MassINC poll gave, Baker has a 74% approval rating. I think Bob's ignoring this because he's not a Republican.

That be funny if Captain Marvel turns out to be worse than Justice League. Did Bob bitched about Dunkirk not having enough diversity by the way?

She probably just got mad cause she realized her point makes absolutely no sense. But you touched on a good point which is they don't really care about quality. They just care that they're THERE. Why does James Bond need to be black? Just do it, just put a black man there in a big movie. There. Done. That's all they wanted. They won't even go see the fucking movie, they just put a new type of person in a type of area they think is important. The marketing side of this is they think they can guilt people into seeing it.

Does she think Wonder Woman is a good superhero movie? A competently told story? Who cares, what's important is it's a woman and she's on a big screen and she's right THERE. Good. Clap now, because it's important. We're seeing something very important right now, and you were part of it!

What a coincidence these billion dollar megacorporations are just so happening to put out the most important movies right now. Come to this movie and witness history. And make sure this movie succeeds, tell your friends, see it more than once, you're not paying for a movie you're paying money to vote in a cultural election. Vote Disney, don't vote Hitler!

I'm sure Bob hasn't sperged about Baker because like most Massachusetts Republicans, Baker isn't really all that conservative.

Then again, who is Bob to actually do any research on someone or something?

There were like one or two retweets before it petered out.

"I don't believe in borders. CHECKMATE, Channer-Gater submentals!"
And here we are going back to moving the goalpost.

That's a lot to think about. Now excuse me while I look at my Disney's Marvel's Black Panther poster while wearing my Disney's Marvel's Black Panther shirt and drinking my Disney's Marvel's Black Panther coffee out of my Disney's Marvel's Black Panther mug. Perhaps my horde of corporate brand names isn't history in the making and I'm just a slave to my mindless consumerism that I trick myself into believing there's a deeper meaning.

Nah, that's fucking stupid, why do you hate black people?

I'll be honest, the new Death Wish looks interesting and a lot of fun like the Charles Bronson movies. Fun fact about that remake, this is the first movie to be theatrically released domestically by MGM by themselves since 2010's Hot Tube Time Machine, which was the year they enter bankruptcy but survived and resorted to co-distribution.

That's because major movies staring minorities and women already exist, Bob. Black Panther did literally nothing new even if we limit to that (which is ignoring the argument that movies aren't really going to do shit for the condition of black Americans).

We're talking about literally helping people and not making corporations centered around entertainment richer.

Rachel Weisz, who's married to Daniel Craig, said that it's annoying people want James Bond to be a woman and or black. What's interesting is that she thinks that if people want a black James Bond, then they should create their own original content that's inspired by the product they're talking about.

While she's totally right, that's not going to happen because all these SJWs will force the studios and filmmakers to pander to them and make the films the way they want them to be filmed.

Well I'm from Nevada and all the republicans there and pretty much conservative. What Bob would get his panties in a twist is that much of Northern Nevada, which is basically 50% Hispanic and 50% white, votes Red. In fact, in the 2016 election, Trump overwhelmingly won the rural counties, but he ended up losing the state to Clinton due to Clark County (Vegas) and Washoe County (Reno) winning for her since they're the most populous of the state.

I mean, he did blow off YMS as "some movie blogger" and won't mention ChrisRayGun by name, calling him "methhead Dave Franco". Bob has all the ego and none of the notoriety.

What does Bob have against ChrisRayGun? I mean I have my own problems with his content, but he generally seems like a decent fellow(his acoustic covers of rise against songs make me want to rip my hair out though.)

Here's the thing though, these blockbusters aren't actually making anything new. Black Panther is built on the MCU which itself was made from long running comic series. The Last Jedi is leeching off the original Star Wars trilogy. Fembusters cannibalized the orginal Ghostbusters. Etc, etc.

These films are not culturally significant because they have no identity of their own. They can only live in the shadows of their predecessors. In forty years nobody will talk about TLJ like they are talking about A New Hope today.
