"As with everything in this, I'd honestly prefer it NOT be some "important" thing from the earlier continuity - I've come to believe that the reason this has been working is that the continuum B.S. only matters as much as the individual story says it does... and that long-term intricate connective-tissue is how you get lost and screw up (see: DARK UNIVERSE). So far, it feels like most of this is being worked-out after the fact, which IMO is the right way to do it (and true to the source.)"

The heck does any of that mean? The Soul Stone can't be Tony Stark because it happened in Iron Man 2 instead of 3?
I think he's saying he doesn't like continuity having any long plot threads because that gets people confused and mixing things up. As in the MCU can connect things by going "Hey, remember Captain America? He's a thing" but never build off of some random scene/quote from any of his movies.

If I'm right than Bob needs to get an attention span, it's a popcorn flick you're having difficultly following beyond superficial things you still get wrong.

Was this from his new video or from his Twitter rants?

Charming.

How is it that a bot made more of a cogent point than Bob ever will?

I love that byline. "Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are all very different but also very similar." Sounds like the thesis statement in a sixth grade student's essay. I hope Bob wrote that himself.

"In conclusion, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a study in contrasts."

I still dread Infinity War because I know it's going to be a magnet for Bob's "intellectualism" because it's the big thing the MCU was building to and the source material. It's bad enough that they are probably going to make it an overstuffed toy commercial of everyone beating up the purple man instead of a Thanos story where the heroes fail miserably and Thanos is his own undoing because his whole gimmick is representing the self defeating nature of nihilism.

You know his take on it will be something about Thanos being just like Trump/Nazis/guy who wouldn't give him extra dipping sauce. Jim Starlin didn't deserve this.

Well part of the problem is that you have a decade-long build up to this movie's release. Having all the heroes be defeated and then Thanos beating himself might work for a 6 month story, not a 10 year one. It would just be a huge betrayal to the audience and probably get them to riot and burn down Disney and Marvel both. 10 year build up needs a pay off worth 10 years (which I doubt they'll be able to pull off) - i can understand the disappointment, but such is the nature of storytelling. For comparison, just look at how well "The Last Jedi" was received after screwing up both a 2 year and 30 year build up.

Considering their track record with villains, that just makes me ask why Marvel Studios decided on adapting a trilogy of a very villain focused stories. The vast majority of Thanos stories have him as protagonist and pondering over his philosophical musings as he crosses paths with people like the Silver Surfer, Adam Warlock, or the late Captain Mar-Vell (closest thing he had to a rival). Making him a villain of the week means removing what worked with him over the years.

I agree, I don't see any way they can do this without fucking up either.

What could also happen that I'm worried about is that they could reveal Thanos to be just a puppet for another generic villain like Akhenaten or Kang and then kill him and take the Infinity Gauntlet. Or, they might have Thanos be killed for no reason by a random villain that was responsible for all the events of the MCU as a act of revenge on some of the Avengers, like Iron Man or Captain America. I also got a feeling the Heart of the Universe will play a part of the movie or next Avengers with Thanos, if he lives or not because it was featured in "Marvel's The End" where Thanos played a huge part in the story.

Part of the problem I'm also worried about as well is how they'll pull of the threads together with multiple characters that may or may not get all the screen time needed to make it happen. Some of them might be in it to serve their purpose in the story against Thanos, others might be there just to filler.

The thing is...I heard the infinity story will be a two film arc. Meaning that they can pull this up with the right amount of dedication. Feige hasn't revealed the title of the 4th avengers film for a reason. If that reason is to serve as continue the infinity arc. Then I can see this film working. Thanos is way too important to fuck up. Kevin Feige knows it. So I have some faith they can pull it up. What I'm not looking forward is Chipman's interpretation to Thanos. Since he'll rope him to any antagonistic political party to sound smart without realizing Thanos is beyond that. But what do I know besides being :optimistic: about being good.

Plus Bob will likely take shots at the DCEU for how Steppenwolf was handled in Justice League or how the big bad of that universe (Darkseid) didn't even get a cameo appearance. And watch him say how the CGI for Thanos was "superior" to the CGI used for Steppenwolf.

It's not. It's one movie with Avengers 4 being untitled as of now but it's "a very different thing" that serves as "a conclusion for that era".

So would it be like the Return of the Jedi of that era then?

Remember, Bob watches it to see color characters jump during explosions and tell witty jokes every five seconds.

Well, its been over a year since I made this post.

I can't believe Bob is a lolcow now.

It was actually my second post in this thread, but thats because I truly didn't capacitate how bad Bob was becoming.

I spent many a morning in the Fish Bowl at my alma matter drinking Starbucks and anticipating every new Game Overthinker to watch after going through several, and absolutely loving his ideas on how the game industry works. This was in April 2009. I had not discovered Chris-Chan yet.

He was my Youtube mentor, one among many. I was going through my own film phase at the time and was just interested in how Youtuber's style things up. I just thought Bob was funny, and GO was relatively simple.

I swear even back then, I thought Bob would someday have children. He had a girlfriend at the time, I swear. James Rolfe, Doug Walker, they all had a girlfriend. Bob seemed to have a nice house, and a pet rabbit. He had access to an incredible forest for a great mini-arc where Game Overthinker was on an odyssey. He was kicking Dragon Warrior Slimes for level grinding.

Bob seemed like he was straight with life.

Then he became diabetic. It was so sad.

I knew all along the Bob Chipman thread existed here, but it wasn't until that December '16 post when it truly hit me how bad Bob had become.
