I think he's saying he doesn't like continuity having any long plot threads because that gets people confused and mixing things up. As in the MCU can connect things by going "Hey, remember Captain America? He's a thing" but never build off of some random scene/quote from any of his movies."As with everything in this, I'd honestly prefer it NOT be some "important" thing from the earlier continuity - I've come to believe that the reason this has been working is that the continuum B.S. only matters as much as the individual story says it does... and that long-term intricate connective-tissue is how you get lost and screw up (see: DARK UNIVERSE). The heck does any of that mean? The Soul Stone can't be Tony Stark because it happened in Iron Man 2 instead of 3?
If I'm right than Bob needs to get an attention span, it's a popcorn flick you're having difficultly following beyond superficial things you still get wrong.
