A better dream for all of us, Bob, would be Disney no longer owning both Lucasfilm, Marvel and Marvel Studios, the Marvel Cinematic Universe ends, and Marvel Studios gets shut down by Marvel when they get it back from Disney, all of the Disney era Star Wars films no longer canon, and Infinity War turning out to be a bigger piece of shit than Dawn of Justice, Justice League, both Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2, and Suicide Squad all combined. The world would be better off without them than Fox and Friends. Oh, and Bob Iger being exposed as a bigger sexual abuser than Harvey Weinstein would make the dream even funner.

Of Bob's myriad pop culture delusions, his insistence that The Simpsons is as good as it ever was is one of the most perplexing. There are so many missteps in its decline that there are frequent arguments on what exactly the breaking point was. Off the top of my head I can think of:

1) "The Principal and the Pauper," which Harry Shearer called out as being a direct slap in the face to fans who loved the show;
2) Homer getting raped by a panda bear;
3) The general whorish attitude toward celebrity guest appearances, where those appearances used to be at least vaguely satirical.

Oh, but dismissing the absurd Apu criticism (itself such an obvious bit of whorishness -- whoever heard of this guy before he made his bitchy documentary?) -- that's what's finally going to damage the show. Mmhmm.

This reminds me of how often I'm bugged by people trying to paint the Civil War as a black and white issues that was totally about freeing the slaves exclusively. It raises continuity questions with how black people were treated afterwards and the narrative of America being ultra racists today before the Civil Rights movements of the 60s. I'm sure the north was full of saints who suffered amnesia afterwards and the south was full of dumb hicks who wanted to get shot because they hate black people so much.

If you find a person who thinks that the Civil War was all about freeing slaves, tell them that the Reconstruction was such a shitshow that 1/4 of all slaves died of starvation in the years immediately after the war. It's like if a superhero showed up to rescue a bunch of people from a burning building in the middle of a frigid winter, then left them all standing there in the cold with nothing but their half burned clothing on.

And the sad thing is, that not only are the nuances of that war completely forgotten by those living today, even the blatantly obvious stuff has been forgotten. But getting back to Bob, it doesn't surprise me that he thinks the Simpsons is the same cultural powerhouse that it was 30 years ago. Everything exists in a late 80's-early 90's stasis for Bob (including his living arrangements with his family.)
