How will Bob react to seeing the Mario film?

Since Infinity War premieres tonight and the reviews will be out shortly afterwards, I'd like to draw attention to a problem I've noticed in this thread. This might come across as backseat modding, but it's actually intended as constructive criticism so feel free to ignore if you so choose.

I've noticed there seems to be a game going on (and I'm not the only one to point this out) where if Bob says something, and I mean anything, he's automatically wrong just by virtue of the fact he's a lolcow. The way this manifests in the thread is that when he says he likes a film, people will find any excuse to hate it and when he doesn't like a film, people will find any excuse to like it just so they don't have to (shock! horror!) agree with Bob on something.

This has lead to some hilarious mental gymnastics and people making statements that are just out of line with reality. Is Black Panther another average MCU film that got massively overhyped because of its majority black cast? Sure, you can happily make that argument. But to imply it's some kind of failure or signalling the downturn of the MCU? No. A film featuring a C-List comics character that's critically acclaimed and grosses over a billion dollars isn't a failure by any stretch, yet I've seen people imply this multiple times. It's perfectly okay to laugh at Bob for masturbating over the film as he has. It's also okay to not like the film. But to try to find any reason to put it down just to disagree with Bob is kind of pathetic.

I'm just saying this because when I see people going on paragraphs-long, borderline deranged rants about how Infinity War will rape and murder your family and moreover how you want it to rape and murder your family just so you can stick it to a fat basement dweller makes me question whether we're not seeing horseshoe theory in action. I know a lot of this can be chalked up to personal opinion, but I don't think it's a coincidence that the only MCU film that gets consistent positive press around here is Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is the only MCU film Bob doesn't like.

All I'm trying to say is that when Infinity War comes out, if you're going to talk about how you felt about it, please be honest. Don't be afraid of saying you liked it just because Bob did. If it's utter shite, don't worry, but don't go through a load of mental gymnastics to hate it just so you can still laugh at Bob, because you don't need to. Bob's MCU fanaticism is just one of his many foibles and it's not even close to the funniest. We can easily laugh at him wanking off over a capeshit film without having to relentlessly a-log the film itself. And you know he'll be back to ranting about eugenics in a day, so what's even the point?

I say all this because the last five pages have basically been a-logging the MCU and it's getting kind of tedious. I'm here to laugh at an obese internet critic who thinks he's part of a new generation of ubermensch. Liking capeshit films a little too much isn't a crime and I wish people would stop treating it like it is. At best, it's funny but I get the feeling some are getting a little too worked up over it.

Anyway, this is just a suggestion. I don't really want to wade through endless unncecessary MCU a-logging when Infinity War hits.

TL;DR: we need less comic book sperging and more making fun of Bob and his nonsensical "Manhattanizing" dreams.

While I agree somewhat I figured it's important to add some caveats.
1. Mostly; the farms isn't one person, so unless it's the same person being a hypocrite and flipflopping it's entirely possible the person typing genuinely hates the movies and consider it a failure without necessarily being malicious about it.

2. The way the thread is structured there is more incentive to speak against something bob loves rather than defending it.
For instance if I line out a reason something bob loves is shit, that will be more on-topic than you quoting me defending it, so people avoid doing that.
And people aren't making posts here saying out of nowhere "bob is right" without adding something more on topic. That's why you see more hate on anything bob is doing than people claiming they agree with him.

If a user likes a film that Bob likes, I'm 85% sure (in most cases) they'll ignore it. If they're a fan of Spiderman: Homecoming, they'll talk shit about Bob not liking Spiderman: Homecoming. But if they also like Black Panther, a movie Bob likes, they'll either not comment on it or criticize the reasons Bob likes it.

Of course there are insecure assholes on here, but I think a majority of people understand this forum isn't pro-Bob/pro-Bobpinions in any conceivable way (unless Bob's opinions are directly juxtaposed (like in the context of a Twitter argument) with someone explicitly in the wrong and/or having shittier hot takes than Bob) and it also isn't comic sperging grounds unless it perfectly fits the larger point of talking shit about Bob.

This concern should be brought up once in a while, don't get me wrong. Weeding out dumbasses that use this forum exclusively to whine about Marvel films is a cause worth fighting for. But, at least now, it's not too big of a problem. The best way to prevent that behavior, in my opinion, would be to place a Bob-specific rule next to the forum guidelines specificing that this isn't /co/. I could be wrong, but that's what I feel could prevent yelling about comics on here.

I wish I could hold onto grudges as long as Bob does.

(I don't actually wish for this.)

I voiced a lot of what I said above to the mods and they advised me to report this kind of stuff when I see it happening which I've been doing and in most cases the mods have agreed and deleted it accordingly. I only posted what I did because Infinity War's coming very soon and I feel like the problem could hit critical mass. I could be wrong, but I felt like it needed saying. I don't want to stop people expressing their opinion, I just think some could go overboard given the magnitude of the film. Like I said though, I could be wrong.

I've brought it up before, but Bob is surprisingly okay at talking about b-movies/random pop culture ephemera. If he just exclusively stuck to that and didn't have an ego, we probably wouldn't have a thread to begin with, let alone one that's 1200+ pages long.

What is the funniest thing that you laughed at Bob for doing?

Brick by Brick.
I actually read the book.
It is hilarious. Of the 200 pages or so, he wastes sixty talking about himself and Mario. And the way he talks about how MArio was always an important part of his life makes it sound as if he is going to kill himself if something "happens" to the Mario franchise. HEck, he talks more about himself than Mario, the old narcissist.

I think the funniest would be something like Activision did 9/11 or getting called out by the ACLU, but for me I still find it equal parts hilarious and pathetic that Bob did a complete 180 on South Park when they dared to mock his political views and then tried to transparently pretend it wasn't because he was offended but because it was "behind the times" (whatever the fuck that means). A lot of social justice cows turned on South Park after season 19, but not many have continued to be as butthurt about it as Bob has. It just perfectly captures how much of an ideological autist he is.

For me it's not any one thing. It's the contrast of his murderous, self-important, smug rhetoric against how absolutely ridiculous he looks in nearly any given image of him, whether it's Zaftig Captin N, Pedoglasses Mario, or Hipster With a Windowless Van ... Bob's appearance is comedy gold.

There's a lot that makes me laughed at Bob for:
  1. Writing a book about Super Marios Bros. 3 where he compares the 90s console wars to Vietnam and accusing Activision of 9/11.
  2. Criticizing GamerGate as a conspiracy to stop Hillary from becoming president.
  3. Thinking Hillary as president would lead us to grow moon wheat.
  4. His tweets about The Superior Future where mechanization that replaces white men for labor and borderless nations are run by a mega-corporation (Disney).
  5. Telling people to not @ him for being a Democrat shill when he wants you to vote straight ticket Democrat.
  6. Seeing his career and reputation destroyed from getting fired at The Escapist for not shutting the fuck up about GamerGate.
  7. Making a three-part, four-hour video of Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice that lacks depth and analysis into the film.
  8. Seeing him blow Kevin Feige's ass and proclaiming that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has more of a cultural impact on film than Stanley Kubrick and Steven Spielberg.
  9. Making a video where he tells gamers to go out and exercise when he ironically gets diabetes from being a lazy fats eating KFC Buckets and greasy Big Mac cheeseburgers.
  10. Seeing him throw a temper tantrum when Trump kicked Hillary's ass on Election Night.
  11. Seeing him bitch about how white working class straight men in Middle America are mediocre subhumans for holding back the Better America for SJWs, LGBT, POC, Women, Immigrants, and Disabled people when he himself is a mediocre white men.
  12. Seeing him rage against Justice League hoping it bombs because Zak Snyder's daughter committed suicide when he didn't raged against his father dying.
  13. Calling Obama and Hillary pieces of shit (still are by the way) back in 2008 before he flip his positions on them.
  14. The fact that he's nearing forty and is legitimately living in his mother's basement speaks volumes about him.
  15. Bashing Jack Thompson for trying to censor games but blindly kissing Anita Sarkeesian's ass for doing the same thing because "vagina".
  16. Calling out Trump for being a sexual harasser to women when he was complicit about Devin Farci and being silent on Harvey Weinstein.
  17. Going 180 on South Park after they started mocking his political beliefs.
I can go on and on and on about Bob. But it's pretty safe to say that he's a hilarious embarrassment to his parents.

It is his habit of resorting to playground retorts when someone contradicts or makes fun of him (Oh, and also his inability to ignore even the cheapest bait). By itself it is not that funny, but remember he is 1) someone who considers himself to be a cultural elite and 2) pushing 40.

Writing Brick by Brick. That book is more of a literary failure than F*ck Whales by Maddox.

It's so narcissistic. When you're writing a "guide", a "handbook" similar to what Cliffsnotes does with books, you don't spend a majority of the book talking about yourself. It would be fine if it was a Mario-themed autobiography (as autistic as that sounds), but it's not. It clearly advertises itself as not just a SMB3 guidebook, but an essay analyzing the significance of this game. The only significance SMB3 made that Bob talks about is how significant it was to his dumb life.

Plus, I hate how he writes. He doesn't understand that long words in long sentences doesn't make him sound smart, it makes his thoughts impossible to read without having a seizure. He writes his videos the same way, and even he can't read his sentences out loud without his mouth getting stuffed by saliva. He has this style to sound smart and put weight on his writing (obviously), but all it does is make anything he says into white noise.

This is something I don't think gets mentioned enough. Bob is a spectacularly dreadful writer. It makes the fact he's published on various geek websites all the more galling, although I suppose it just goes to show how worthless those sites are.

I remember one of the real early episodes of SVU before the show became pure shit where Denis O'Hare played a mentally challenged guy who owned tons of books and constantly pretend to read them so people would think he was smart. That's Bob to me except he bought a thesaurus and thinks if he uses big words no one will notice how stupid and full of shit he is.
