Since Infinity War premieres tonight and the reviews will be out shortly afterwards, I'd like to draw attention to a problem I've noticed in this thread. This might come across as backseat modding, but it's actually intended as constructive criticism so feel free to ignore if you so choose.
I've noticed there seems to be a game going on (and I'm not the only one to point this out) where if Bob says something, and I mean anything, he's automatically wrong just by virtue of the fact he's a lolcow. The way this manifests in the thread is that when he says he likes a film, people will find any excuse to hate it and when he doesn't like a film, people will find any excuse to like it just so they don't have to (shock! horror!) agree with Bob on something.
This has lead to some hilarious mental gymnastics and people making statements that are just out of line with reality. Is Black Panther another average MCU film that got massively overhyped because of its majority black cast? Sure, you can happily make that argument. But to imply it's some kind of failure or signalling the downturn of the MCU? No. A film featuring a C-List comics character that's critically acclaimed and grosses over a billion dollars isn't a failure by any stretch, yet I've seen people imply this multiple times. It's perfectly okay to laugh at Bob for masturbating over the film as he has. It's also okay to not like the film. But to try to find any reason to put it down just to disagree with Bob is kind of pathetic.
I'm just saying this because when I see people going on paragraphs-long, borderline deranged rants about how Infinity War will rape and murder your family and moreover how you want it to rape and murder your family just so you can stick it to a fat basement dweller makes me question whether we're not seeing horseshoe theory in action. I know a lot of this can be chalked up to personal opinion, but I don't think it's a coincidence that the only MCU film that gets consistent positive press around here is Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is the only MCU film Bob doesn't like.
All I'm trying to say is that when Infinity War comes out, if you're going to talk about how you felt about it, please be honest. Don't be afraid of saying you liked it just because Bob did. If it's utter shite, don't worry, but don't go through a load of mental gymnastics to hate it just so you can still laugh at Bob, because you don't need to. Bob's MCU fanaticism is just one of his many foibles and it's not even close to the funniest. We can easily laugh at him wanking off over a capeshit film without having to relentlessly a-log the film itself. And you know he'll be back to ranting about eugenics in a day, so what's even the point?
I say all this because the last five pages have basically been a-logging the MCU and it's getting kind of tedious. I'm here to laugh at an obese internet critic who thinks he's part of a new generation of ubermensch. Liking capeshit films a little too much isn't a crime and I wish people would stop treating it like it is. At best, it's funny but I get the feeling some are getting a little too worked up over it.
Anyway, this is just a suggestion. I don't really want to wade through endless unncecessary MCU a-logging when Infinity War hits.
TL;DR: we need less comic book sperging and more making fun of Bob and his nonsensical "Manhattanizing" dreams.
