Constantinople is kind of a pet interest of mine, and when I heard this "Nika Riots = Gamergate" thing I just had to dig a little deeper. Rowan Kaiser ("Who?") posted this in the run-up to his awesomely stupid conclusion:

There are a number of problems with this, apart from the jaw-dropping narcissism and lack of perspective required to equate Gamergate with a 1500 year old riot that killed over 30,000 and whose exact causes vex historians to this day. Rowan Kaiser -- and of course, Bob, who is apparently incapable of any analysis that is not self-flattering -- fails to take into account the years of tribalism, factionalism, and tangled politics that led to the Blue/Green rivalry. (There's a reason complex politics are called Byzantine.) It also reveals a grossly chauvinistic modern myopia: historical riots have been sparked by everything from sporting contests to paintings, not to mention my favorite one of all, the one that gave birth to the NYPD, the Astor Place Riots, which were sparked by an argument over who was the greatest American stage actor, William MacCready or Edwin Forrest. (It was Forrest, you heathen.)

The spark that set off such riots generally is only the final snowflake in a blizzard, igniting years, decades, or centuries of bad will that has festered over time. The Nika Riots were no different, and were even more complex in their roots than either of these two chuckleheads care to indicate, as even a cursory amount of research would reveal. Of course that's difficult to get into on Twitter (there may be no worse medium to discuss the politics of Constantinople), but this is all nothing but especially pinheaded chinjawing so they can piss on fans who are irritated by the ongoing Star Wars trainwreck and continue to wave the tattered Gamergate banner. The fact that Gamergate didn't kill anyone (except Brianna Wu's dog, and whose fault was that?) just goes to show how ridiculous this whole spew of nonsense is.

I once played with the idea that moral panic resembles the heresy struggles on the medieval period in that they're an autistic slapfight about something which doesnt really matter in the grander in the scheme of things. The amount of ink and occasionally blood spilled about if God approved of pretty pictures of jesus or petty semantics on God's nature is really dumb. But then it occured how self-indulgant that was, how the general population where actually effected by religious turmoil and those stupid pissants genuinly believed God himself cared about that stupid shit.

Yeah there is a logic consistency in being concerned about a supreme being's wishes (because it would be - the supreme being) but what exactly Bob et al are fighting for is like... I mean they believe people are literally dying because of Trump. But we can see they're not. So it's like they are fighting against a hellfire people can objectively see isn't there.

I think on a day to day basis your everyday experiances matter more than gamergate, for example a flu wave matters more, a rough week of traffic matters more, decreased pulic waste removal due to reduced public funds/incomptance matters more. Because it actually affects people in a meaningful way.

I'd go so far as to suggest the net suffering from my neighbors food poisoning was probably more important than Gamergate because he's a doctor.
With that in mind comparing Gamergate to an actual important event like the Nika riots or Nazi Germany is totally insane.

Anti-Gamergaters thought they'd change culture through changing games the biggest rising entertainment medium at the time. But there wasn't any real advertisers to go after and pressure while the brick and mortar stores couldn't afford to completely alienate fans or reject games so they had no real power except when a few developers did some ass kissing with them to score SJW points but which ultimately lead to almost no real changes in the industry or games. I have to stop paying attention to both Moviebob and his critics. I got so upset and frustrated with him and his ilk, I had to go to work early today, something I am very ashamed of. Unfortunately, when I just want to listen to ASMR or music on YouTube, Moviebob's videos keep showing up. He has long outlived his glory days in terms of his YouTube output. I also have a shortcut to his Twitter on my phone, which I originally looked at here and there just for laughs, but every time I see his delusional genocidal rants, he becomes less funny and more terrifying, so I deleted it. I fear for what he could do if he had any political power whatsoever. It's just upsetting in general to keep on watching videos about feminism or transgenderism or Muslims in Europe or Otakus in Japan or the persecution of white farmers in South Africa and how terrible those things have become because its "more important than funny entertainment". It's good to learn something, but it's not healthy to obsess over something. Then you might become more like Moviebob as well. Until Moviebob either gets his act together or receives his divine justice, I may not be around here anymore. I was introduced to him with a video called Build a Better Gamer (which made me into a better gamer- and a better person) and what has thus far waned my interest in him is his horrible actions. And being a God-bothering white man, one of his primary targets.
