They *want* to tighten up the security when letting games in, precisely to avoid the actual pedo games from entering. It's just that they recognized that up and forcing a new limit of 'what is proper' on titles they had accepted selling, with the originals having passed their muster, was not exactly kosher with their audience.
If nothing changed with the games, and the rules haven't actually changed [just their internal purview], then why remove those games?
They'll probably try and do some cleanup to remove actual garbage after their new tools are finished, but limit to keeping the trash out and let the users actually define what sells and what doesn't.

Steam probably needs to have better quality control, but I have to point out, child porn is illegal and by definition doesn't fit under the new rule of illegal content. Hate speech is a bit vaguer, but if you mean harassment and death threats, those are also illegal and might even fall under trolling by steam's logic. If you mean "it said the n-word!" hate speech is part of free speech, and the steam marketplace cannot be sued for being a marketplace for video games because video games are art, and therefore, it doesn't matter how vulgar it is, you can't sue someone for art if you find their art to contain hate.

How is it fascism if a private company restricts content based on whatever criteria they want? They could choose not to allow games with characters that are left handed and it'd be completely valid.
Honestly Bob should be more worried about the wave of absolute garbage that Steam Greenlight resulted in rather than content that makes him clutch his pearls.
