Bob confirmed for not knowing anything whatsofuckingever about how politics works. Yes Bob, I'm sure all those ambitious up-and-coming politicians will be perfectly happy with whatever this unnamed group of party insiders decides and will do absolutely nothing to attempt to covertly influence the results, or spoil things by going third party when feel aggrieved by an opaque, undemocratic process! I'm sure the voters will be perfectly happy to have absolutely no say in any of this! I'm sure that these "smart internal analytics" can factor in the results of the sort of unforeseeable revelations that the primary process always manages to dredge up as the candidates attempt to kneecap each other by exposing hidden dirt! I'm sure that it is perfectly sensible to bet the farm on the campaigning abilities of someone that you've haven't seen in action! Bob's authoritarianism, stupidity, and ignorance are all on full display here. This is so astoundingly dumb I had to archive it in case he deletes it. It's very nearly as dumb as the starship tweet; certainly the idyllic view of the sort of technocratic approach that Bob recommends firmly belongs in Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek.
From what I understand given some recent podcasts I've listened to about the way parties used to work in America (and I'm sure one of the history fags will be along to correct all the nuance I'm missing) this is actually how it used to work. They were essentially fancy clubs that would meet, figure out who would best represent their ideals and win the election, then trot them out to say, "hey voters, pick our guy."Yeah, just eliminate whatever ability voters have to pick candidates. Only allow the establishment to pick who gets to run on their parties platform!
Oh and the podcasts I heard this from? Right-wing, conservative ones (bitching about Trump some, actually). Now I won't argue about whether the old way or the current way were better, I just find it deeply ironic that Mr. uber-Dem, superior future is arguing for an idea that is essentially from the past that several right-wingers would support.
His self-owns aren't the most obvious, but I think they're the most humorous.
