Yeah, yeah "God loves, man Kills", everybody talks about this clunky Graphic novel, but let's be real, people bought X-men for the Dark Phoenix saga.

It's worth remembering that "God Loves, Man Kills" was intended as a one-off, when Marvel's graphic novels were their own line. It was mostly an excuse to tell "adult" stories, that is, ones with visible blood, dirty words, dead kids, and Kitty Pryde screaming "NIGGER." Heavy stuff, man, take us seriously, please?

All that being said, I'm pretty fond of that story. It's one of the first times I remember Magneto being portrayed sympathetically. Maybe it's the kernel of Bob's defense of the Magneto Solution? (Since we need to bring this back on topic.)

I gave up watching. They fucking dedicate 40 minutes to a 5 minute video. They'll watch 30 seconds and then try to riff on it for 5 minutes. It's so grating that once I gave up I watched the original Moviebob upload instead.

I'd never seen it and it explains SO MUCH about Moviebob's personality. He flat out admits he still wants revenge on his bullies and that it's sad and unhealthy, but dismisses it as "whatever". He knows he's evil but doesn't care and doesn't want to change, which is pretty despicable.

To summarize the video: "the idea of nerds being bullied by jocks because the nerds are superior and the jocks are afraid is a fictional power fantasy... but it's also 100% true because Michael Jordan is beloved by all and Bill Gates is hated, even though I have no source on that. Also, if X-Men were real, I'd happily join Magneto and kill all the dumb bully jock inferior humans!"

I used to think the "Moviebob hates middle america because it represented his bullies" thing was hyperbolic conjecture, but he explains it himself.

“Magneto is Right” is Moviebob’s Mei Kampf, his Communist Manifesto, His Twisted World. If you want to understand Moviebob then this video will tell you everything you need to know

I guess? Besides that graphic Novel and the adventures on the Savage Land after the first Phoenix saga (not the Dark one), I don't recall Magneto being in any of the big Claremont epic storylines, so by the late 80's, when the anti-heros were getting really popular, they started pushing the idea that Magneto is just a misguided by his tragic past, and there is good in him, so they had this whole storyline of wanting to create a safe haven for mutants in Avalon.

And with the cartoon he got so populat that in the age of Apocalypse he was full on the main hero, and getting it on with Rogue. But the thing this is, Magneto in the classic comics... he wasn't "vengefull", he merely thought that mutants birth right was to subjugate humans, there wasn't much else besides it, he was tyrant, not a freedom fighter.

"If Cloud Strife was real, he would shove his buster sword up Trump's ass :smug:"

Where to fucking begin... first, this is a prime example of Robert "knowledge" on pop-culture shit, this feels like someone is just quoting what he read on the wikipedia, he never really played the fucking game.

Then there is his explanation on why FFVII doesn't "register as a statement". Utter bullshit, everybody gets the message FFVII is trying to make, but it is so blatant simple and unilateral that it would be the same thing to say "the sky is blue". if you wanna chalk the game as being a pro-liberal message, fine, whatever makes you sleep at night, but you would have to be an idiot to use this simple ass message about "take care of mother earth" as in any sort of discorse, that is why normal people don't bother analysing politics on these dumb entertainment pastiches.

Also, it's pretty easy to cherry pick shit in order to make you points valid, watch me: Shinra managed to save two cities from the weapons with a giant cannon, while the heroes were incapable to do anything, clearly Sakaguchi is a right winger militar hawk after all :story:.

Also also, nobody felt sorry for Sephiroth, he got over his trauma of being a lab rat pretty quick when he found out he could become a supreme being, feeding on the megalomania and narcissism he always had, and his "bad mom" (I think he means Jenova, not Lucrecia) wasn't wronged by Shinra, she was a dormant space parasite that is just waiting for a chance to suck the planet dry. And Hojo never came close to being any sort of father figure to Sephiroth, Sephiroth despised him.

And I would like to give one last fuck you to Robert here, Aerith IS NOT A FUCKING HIPPIE. She plays the holy maiden role, shit is over used in anime and mangas, stop bending shit to fit your crappy interpretations...

Seriously, go fuck yoursef Robert.

Sometimes I've wondered where his money goes. He makes $4000 $3250 on patreon plus whatever pennies The Escapist throws him for populating their dying website. While things are clearly on a downward trend financially; that seems to have been a fairly recent development.

His occupying a shitty below ground hovel is well documented and the lack of investment in his "business" is glaringly obvious, so where does it all go? Raging alcoholism? Gambling? Perhaps.

No, I think it might have to do with his one redeeming trait, his undying love and loyalty towards his brother and his niece. While Bob might be every bit the sheltered, raging autistic manchild he evidently is, I think he might be financially supporting his brother, rather than the other way around.

Okay, Chipman, but Barret actually calls his early eco-terrorist actions wrong and most of the game is stopping the evil man from hitting everyone with a rock because his mom's an ayylmao. The "Political" elements are limited to the first few hours of the game. They don't even get rid of Shinra by the end, it's still controlling the world even in later sequels.

So uh....that "message" you're seeing is questionable on multiple fronts. I don't even know what kind of conclusion you're supposed to get from that.

I'm starting to think the whole Patreon thing is just a pseudo-socialist bluecheck funneling system where a bunch of Twitter lefties all contribute most of their "earnings" to each other in a constant loop so they can look like they have big numbers but don't really make anything.
Bob and Zoe Quinn live in studios (Bobs basement is close enough) the Sterlings still rent despite living in Arkansas or some shit and allegedly making 6 figures a year.

Who else runs in this circle and lives in squalor despite their patreon metrics suggesting they're well above the poverty line?

Fucking wow, he completely missed the point of Final Fantasy 7's story.

It literally goes right down his gullet. That "small amount of food for an average size person" prolly came out to $20 or so. That seems to be meal-sized to blobbert and $20 a meal + alcohol + solo trips to Boston bars + consoooooomer goods + Vidya + whatever other luxury goods blobber engages in to forget who and what he is is not living cheap on ~$40k a year.

The Rat King of troons used to do that a lot, constantly sending a dollar to everyone else in their group to inflate the number of patrons/dollars on their individual Patreons. They each lost a few cents every time they did that due to Patreon fees, but they believed the benefits would make up for it (bigger Patreon numbers supposedly leading to more people donating). I could be misremembering, but I think creators could pledge some of their earnings to other Patreons directly and bypass some of the fees involved. If someone knows differently, feel free to clarify.

Regardless, I think the practice died out naturally on its own once it became clear that people weren't going to donate to you just because you had larger numbers under your Patreon. The more the circular donations continued, the less money there was in rotation, and it wasn't being sufficiently replenished by outside sources to keep the scheme going. If Patreon also removed the ability to donate earnings directly, that would also have helped put an end to the whole thing; again, I might be misremembering, so anyone who knows otherwise, feel free to correct me.

The point is, there may be people still donating to each other, but likely because they want to support each other's content. Circular donations on a large scale aren't really much of a thing anymore, to my knowledge.

I figured Bob would still be angry at Square for 'betraying' Nintendo back in the day.

He's never played any version of the game and has only read the wiki.

I hope he does a youtube video about it. He would get massacred.

It's one of the first times I remember Magneto being portrayed sympathetically.

Yeah; Magneto saves a transit cop who got plugged by one of Rev. Stryker's armored goons; he (Magneto) used a subway car door as a flying carpet kinda thing, and took the X-Men out of there, along with the injured cop. He pulled the bullet out of the guy and then they took him to the hospital. Very different from the "kill all normies" portrayal he'd had in the main line of Marvel Comics. (I actually quite like GLMK).
