Since when Robert gives a fuck about pokemon? He likes to act as if those old videogames are pure and wholesome as a symbol of the best humankind can provide or some shit, but he never played those, he never really cared. He just likes to pretend it's a good thing because in Robert has this weird obssession with childhood and everything that evokes it being the absolute good in all of us or some shit.
It isn't a question if Robert is dense or not, a zealot isn't stupid, just a fanatic. Robert likes to parade around about being a pragmatic guy, he believes that is only through the democrats that we can achieve the superior future he wants, so he uses the of "anything goes D" as a crutch to whatever dissonance in his "logic".
I mean, the future he really wants is fame, money and women, but since he can't get those on his own because he doesn't have the charisma and smarts to do it, he turned all this frustation on politics, and now all he does is talk and "produce" videos under the prism of american politics.
And the way the chose to see all this bullshit is under some sort of 80's cartoon setting, you gotta the G.I Joes and the Cobras, and whatever is the between gets swept away for the sake of the good guys being the good guys, because Robert uses the excuse that the "results" is what matter, even thought his "results" are nothing more than pipe dreams he uses as comfort for not being able to achieve his owns.
