I'm honestly surprised Moviebob has had as much success on the Internet as he has considering anyone with basic video editing skills could make the content he makes without going on daily political rants that would alienate half their potential audience.

Memeology101 has actual editing skills and his crowning achievement isn't making a four hour rant about why he hated Batman vs. Superman (Seriously, to anyone new to the Moviebob thread, he did this). It's only natural that he'd have house building money instead of leaking basement money.

Moviebob is that weird anomaly of weird and bad reviews that somehow has a viewer base, despite having such low effort put into it, and the opinions of Moviebob being almost always terrible.

Hes kinda like one of those exceptions that strangely exist in our world, that otherwise shouldn't work, or be possible.

It's because he got his foot in the door early so he's an established internet angry man. It's the same thing with the Nostalgia Critic. If he started his videos today I don't think he'd have a sizable audience at all.

Bob is an early YouTuber who kind of got grandfathered in by sheer dint of sticking around. Most of his fans these days seem to be similar fringe political whackos who don't blanch at the hint of genocide for the Right and the undesirables (call them Mayonnaise Ghouls or whatever), of which there is an unsettling abundance on Twitter.

So weird how just a little Film Robert is fuckin hilarious, but too much is depressing. There's probably a medical or psychology analogy to be made here

There probably is some psychological observation out there where you see a manlet or an incel rage about something and you can only laugh for so long before you want someone to tackle them. I only took intro to psychology so maybe someone smarter than me can point out what it is.

I think it's because if you dip in and out, you can get the impression that Bob is a little weird and a little angry and just has these occasional flareups of going too far. But if you follow him regularly you realize that no, he really is like that ALL THE TIME. It never stops except when he's sleeping. It's been a while since anyone remarked on this, but occasionally we would note that he'd tweet into the wee hours -- trying to start flamewars at 3 in the morning. It's why I can't follow Chris-chan at all: you realize this isn't just some internet goofball; this is someone with profound psychological problems.

The difference is that since Bob's brand is impotent political rage, he's much funnier than Chris. And since he's marginally more functional, it's more satisfying when he occasionally faces consequences.

He used to be massively popular and would have still been massively popular, but he decided to be a massive dick constantly and now nobody watches him anymore.
