A big reason there hasn't been a Superman as iconic as the Reeve version is because a lot of Superman media sucks.

A lot of them are fine in the role, but the writing is terrible. Cavill in the DCEU is a perfect example. Smallville sucked too, I'm sorry.

Superman is good when the writers' experience of small towns and small town psychology goes beyond "watching a mob of rednecks abusing a minority on TV." There's got to be a certain air of goodness with Superman - we have to believe a superpowered kid would grow up wholesome enough to use his powers to help humanity, not enslave it. And it's a lot easier to believe that such a kid would grow up in MayoGhoulLand, where he spends his summers baling hay and helping out his family. If Superman had grown up in the Chipman family, he would not only have looked like Baron Harkonnen while flying around, he would have had the same morals as the Baron as well.

Henry Cavill seems pretty well accepted as Superman. At least anecdotally after some minor backlash with the original casting. (Like seemingly every casting.) Just from the box office he's the most popular Superman, Man of Steel made $668 million, BvS made $874 million, despite everything the Whedon Justice League made $658 million. Only the first Reeves movie is likely close after adjusting for inflation.

I don't know if Cavill will ever actually play the role again because WB probably won't make a Superman/Justice League movie for a while, but he's said as recently as a couple weeks ago that he's totally up for it.

Nobody cared about Cavill as Superman. Nobody actually remembered or cared about Christopher Reeve, that was the entire point of the reboot. The truth is they struggle to make people care about the character, period. People aren't as clingy to Superman as some would like to believe.

My point is that I think it is quite surprising how fast these Marvel Disney+ series are getting with the diminishing returns. No, I'm not one of the tards that are going "THE M-SHE-U is dead, the capeshitp movies are done for, get woke go broke!!", I still think capeshit crap is going to dominate the big blockbusters for a while, but I do find curious that it is getting hard for them to keep in the conversation.

Yeah, the Eternals had the whole drama "OHHH, EVEN THE SHILL CRITICS DIDN'T LIKE IT!!!" and the whole representation and blah blah blah, but it didn't last long and now it is all about to see if a reaching 50 Tobey MAguire is going to wear a Spiderman suit again.

Maybe that is just the nature of the hype machine, and these Marvel movies are all about "what's next", but the movies managed to hold people's attention for over a decade, while the disney+ shit is pretty much gone from the talk, except for the the new home alone which people say it is atrocious.

Again I don't know how this info is aggregated so it may just be a snap shot of the past day or so. Still, find me 8 hours of sleep. Find me 6 hours of downtime.
