Batman wouldn't be nearly as interesting of a character or have any staying power if he was always locked into one interpretation. What makes him endearing is how versatile he is, and how you can tell so many different stories with different tones and themes. You can have a deranged psycho dealing out misguided vengeance, you can have a campy boy scout, you can have a paranormal detective, or you could have a standard superhero.
But Bob doesn't like things that are new or different.

Some people deserve free speech, some people (or rather, "people") don't.
I don't see how Maximal Speech would create a paradox. SJWs love to bring up Karl Popper, but they confuse "free speech" with "lawless, free-for-all action", which nobody advocates. What would actually happens under Maximal Speech is this: some people will be hurt by "offensive", "intolerant" speech, others won't, and those who are easily hurt will leave on their own accord (even though they would tell themselves they are being driven out). This is pretty much how Natural Selection works. Bobby loves to bring up Natural Selection, which makes his objection even more baffling.

Black man responded with a quite nice picture of himself, clean fit suit and physically fit, and juxtaposing that with Bob's Mario dress up. Bob then mentioned the news outlet the black man worked for, got nothing but grief for it, and stormed away telling the black man to "stay mad".

Yeah, when I was a kid in the 90s it aired regularly on FX. Right before Highlander I think.
The licensing didn't make it hard to broadcast but it made video releases difficult. I believe the series is owned by Fox but Batman himself is owned by DC/WB.
Corporate copyright fuckery is great isn't it?
