More Spiderman shit. I honestly can't get why this 40 year old man does give this much of a shit about this crap, but here we are.

Ok, first and foremost, Spiderman has been doing this "death of Gwen Stacy" reenact tons of times by now, not just on other media, but in the comics as well, and the reason on why they are probably doing a call back to that in this new Spiderman movie is because as popular as Spiderman is, the dirty secret is that he has few "iconic" moments that the even the normies can recognize.

Uncle Ben's death, Spiderman trapped under heavy machinery in the "If this be my destiny" story (which was used in that homecoming movie), "face it tiger you've just hit the jackpot" and Spiderman no more (this one being re-used to death)

So if these studios keep coming back to the same spots to drive hype amongst people, it ain't so much about "getting it" or not, but more so that Spiderman and capeshit in general is a tired genre with little space to go. Sure, the cinema sucess opened doors to a larger audience, but that doesn't mean these characters don't feel old and tired, because they are old and tired.

Second, please Robert stop with this "think about the little girls, they need Spider-Gwen for halloween costumes!" bullshit, I don't think you need to worry about girls being catered characters and products to spend they parents' money with, it doesn't have to be capeshit.

Also, Spider-Gwen ain't that popular, she started off as just a riff on the original spiderman on that crappy Spider-verse event, and what really called people's attention was the costume, which people went crazy making fanarts of. After that, none of the solo Spider Gwen (or ghost spider, stupid name) managed to take hold on it's own, and now Spider Gwen takes part of teams, like those Marver Rising animations no one watches, or being a support character that doesn't have much to do in that animated movie.

So drop the fucking histerics about killing Gwen Stacy, I would agree that she was never much of a character before, but she isn't much now either, and for the love of god stop using the "little girls!!!" as argument, leave the kids alone you creep, they like what they like, they don't need a fat 40 year old basement dweller to tell them what they like.

You said everything I'd want to say about this idiotic outburst, but much better. I'd only add this: notice Bob doesn't address anything like story values, fidelity to character, or even how this might work thematically. It's all about contemporary values and "think of the children!" nonsense. Bob is a pure consoomer; he is no longer capable of thinking like a storyteller (assuming he ever was). It's all about the marketing and making sure Marvel remains as bland and accessible as possible.

To call Bob a hack is an insult to hacks.

Hey Blobby Gwen wasn't "Fridged" well at least not for Peter. Yeah, her death has flued a lot of Spider-Man stories but she was originally killed for one reason they had two potential love interests for Peter back then Fun Party Girl Mary Jane Watson and boring Good Girl Gwen the writers wanted Gwen gone so they could concentrate on MJ. Meaning she was bumped off not for a male character but to promote another female character.

Edit: The most popular thing about Spider Gwen is her costume which credit to it is a cool design.

I should add how that moment has only been adapted properly ONCE. O N C E. How can he talk like he knows better when in fact he is the most uninformed man about the shit he is talking about? The death will still continue to work because Spider-man's story will always be about the consequences of duality. To pretend it's nothing like that because Coosom makes me wish he just left Spider-man all together and stayed with WAHOO.

I cannot stand Trump and MovieBob makes me want to vote for him in 2024 out of spite lol. How is someone so bad at giving their opinion?
That's the sole redeeming quality of MovieBob: He manages to unite people of all sociopolitical sides in declaring he is a clueless dolt that barely qualifies as a human being, despite his call for dehumanizing all things rural and right-wing.

Even the most avid leftists and Trump haters come in here, see his daily diatribes, and go "Dude, turn it down a notch" because he is that much of a dense and murderous swine.

Perhaps Moviebob will actually lead to the end of the woke culture shit. He's pretty much the posterboy, and what a shitty posterboy to boot.

They’re not going to kill off Zendaya in No Way Home. People are theorising that, if the previous versions of Spider-Man show up, she will be rescued by Andrew Garfield.
Also the fact there's pre-release screenshots of her working in some place with Peter watching her from a distance. It's obvious they're going to be separated at the end when everyone forgets Peter is Spider-Man.

"[The Death of Gwen Stacy] was only ever good/important as a generational touchstone within its own set of contexts that can't exist in adaptations."

This is just an excessively wordy way of saying "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" because there's nothing "generational" or "contextual" about it. Spider-Man fails to protect someone he cares about. That's it. That's the whole context. It will always apply and always be "important" if included in a Spider-Man mythos because it sketches out the limitations of Peter's ability to prevent what he sees as consequences of his own actions. Same as Uncle Ben. It's returned to because it's an inherently compelling idea not out of some generational loyalty to Gerry Conway.

Hilarious, but no. Any attempt to tie Bob to some larger, meaningful movement will have the defenders of that movement dismiss him as an unhinged crank. And since those defenders are largely in control of the messaging, that's how he'll be seen. And you know what? It's fair, because Bob is an unhinged crank, at best.

It's like saying you shouldn't have Venom or the Symbiote Suit in a Spider-Man story because you need to go through the entire Secret War first. You don't. The elements and themes of the story itself are what make it compelling,

Bob is a guy who yells at anyone parked along the curb in front of the house to "get off my property"

Bob is a guy who orders diet sodas in public, telling everyone he's ostensibly watching his weight.

Bob is the kind of guy who'll ask a kid what his favorite color is, and then lecture him on why he's wrong.

Bob is a guy who uses cheat codes against kids in video games.

Look, if you want to be an old man ranting about Spidey's love life...

Well give up, you won't beat the madgoblin.

(And this is a guy who once wrote such a convincing essay on patching over a retcon that Marvel actually adapted it to canon.)

Almost like a certain group that got capitalist and communist countries both to come together against them. What were they called? From back in the 40s...

Is Robert a fan of the Spider-Man animated series like he is the X-Men one? (I actually don't know enough Bob Lore on this.) Because that series adapted The Night Gwen Stacy Died even though Gwen Stacy was never a character on the show. It just put Mary Jane in the role. (And didn't kill her since the series wasn't allowed to depict death. Or guns. Or punching.)

It's sort of amazing how Bob has based his entire identity out of consooming children's entertainment, yet, when it comes to the capeshit he pontificates about, he apparently can't be bothered to buy and read the trade-paper compilations of the early issues or find them online.

Where do I even begin? Aside from the fact that there are none religious pro-lifers even atheists admitt that Church charity work is a positive of religion. The only positive thing I am willing to give him is that at least he does not throw the same shade at older believers since he says that this statement about creation and destruction only applies to modernity.

I sometimes suspect Bob is functionally illiterate. Not that he can't read; he simply doesn't. Can't concentrate long enough to absorb anything longer than a five minute internet article, and maybe not even that. Living on Twitter will do that to you.
