Year round schools - I worked for a division with a few of those. All it did was start in August, then take the 4 weeks gained and scatter 'em through the year, extending spring and winter breaks and adding a fall one. We had calendars that listed counts of instructional days (since that's what the government regs cared about - weather cancellations were sparse as a result) and the year-round and regular calendars were identical.

Anyone who is Bobby's "intellectual equal" doesn't deserve to be a teacher.

Sadly, many are. The only difference between Bob and a few teachers I've met is an ability to stick to something long enough to get a degree and hold down a job. (Note I didn't say "do a job".)

I hate school with the fire of a thousand suns, and I will concur with mr. Broken Clock Twice a Day that a lot of schoolwork is pointless busy work. Excessive homework (hell, IMO 99% of homework is excessive, do the shit during the class day wtf) is the epitome of pointless busy work. I did best in school when I got all my schoolwork done during the school day. The idea of nuking 3 months of Summer Vacation (it's HOT, would YOU want to be in a damn classroom for 8 hours in 90 degree+ heat?! They don't have mofoing AC!) horrifies me to this day, and I haven't been in school since the mid-1990s.

For people who really give a shit about learning and retaining, y'know, Summer School *full body shiver* is a thing...

Gonna be pedantic and inform you that school has in fact caught up with the times a little bit. We really push the idea that excessive homework is a shitty fucking idea. And any administrator worth their salt will get mad at you for it. My ancient ass mentor has even come around on it, saying he won't assign anything he won't grade. And he doesn't wanna grade that much shit. Its still a long ways to go, like I said, my mentor's old enough to have taught my mom. So, there will always be exceptions and people who think they know better. But education is trying.

BTW @Jaracainofthewind back when I went to school, when dinosaurs roamed the earth (middle school and high school between the late 80s and mid 90s) the definition of "advanced" classes (named "enriched") was nothing more than EXTRA homework. My parents did not realize this (and neither did I) and since I'm SMRT, they figured they were doing me a favor. Except the course work wasn't ANY different, it was just, more homework than the regular ("core") classes. Stupid British Columbia.

"Thinkers vs. Believers," "you're not a person," unhinged rants against the Mayo Ghouls, deep-throating Disney and Marvel, and thirsting over hot chicks (with performative thirsting over troons, or at least I hope it's performative). However, he still manages to end up regularly saying things that are so blatantly wrong or obnoxious, and he says them with such certainty of his mental superiority that it gets the blood boiling. Thus, even though my eyes glaze over most of his screeds, those moments of sheer assholery make it hard not to continue harboring some hatred for this bloated sack of shit.

The solace comes from the realization that he's lashing out because of his own impotence, both figuratively and probably literally as well. Bob's squarely in midlife now, his existence is solely based on hipster welfare, he hasn't held down an actual job since his Blockbuster days, he has no real marketable skills, and he's absolutely alone both in a friendship and romantic sense. Slight powerlevel, but I was a dumb smart kid. Too smart for the standard classes, but got Cs in the advanced classes at best. But before they bumped me up to the advanced classes, I was never disruptive because I had enough brain power and imagination to keep myself occupied once I'd done my work and was waiting for everyone else to finish. The reason many kids act out is because of issues at home, or they just can't get the school work. Yes you occasionally have the kid that's too smart and he gets bored, but teachers and school counselors usually pick up on that and work out a way to deal with this, possibly even advancing the kid a grade.

Yet again, Bob has no room to talk about other people being stupid. The only thing he got right is that Goring was not the originator of the phrase, which dates back to at least 1700s France.

The meaning of the phrase is that good things require some sacrifice or unpleasantness to achieve, with the unpleasant action being a prerequisite for the good result. It has nothing to do with the plentiful nature of eggs, which sounds like how a mass murderer would interpret it to justify their actions ("c'mon, we've got millions of undesirables, who's gonna miss a few?"). I remain thankful that Bob will never be in a position to use this idiom in the manner he believes is correct; Lord knows he wants to break a few Mayo Ghoul eggs to get his Superior Future omelet.

I think what Bob's betus-addled brain is trying to remember is something along the lines of "knowing how the sausage is made," which is not only a simpler and more common idiom but also fits better. The butchery process may not be palatable, but at least the meat is still easily identifiable. Sausage, meanwhile, might involve parts of the animal you'd rather not know you're eating.
