It is possible, some even say desirable, to learn empathy from fictional works. The experience of any individual person is limited, and fictional works -- good fictional works -- help a person encounter realms of lives far from their immediate vicinity. The problems with Bobby are that 1) he is autistic and thus empathy deficient and 2) the shit he favors does not help develop empathy. Smartass, irrelevant quips invalidates any emotional plights that the characters find themselves in, while casual, comedic violence (think especially Birds of Prey and James Gunn's Suicide Squad and Peacekeeper) alienates the audience and prevents identification with the pain of the victims (who are often faceless and nameless anyway). These are strong empathy retardants.

To he how Bobby fails at grasping empathy in movie, look no further than The Eternals, a disposable and universally panned MCU entry that Bobby is wild about even to this day. Even I haven't seen the film I know that one of its main theme, indeed the very source of conflict, is the empathy the aliens developed towards Earthlings.

The script is shit, but the message is clear. Does Bobby identify with the aliens, who so readily identify with Earthlings? From the review he gave, in which he yammers about Wim Wenders, "huge ideas", and unspecified esoteric philosophy, I surely don't think so! Indeed he seems reluctant to see the alien characters even as honorary humans ("...characters who are themselves more heightened metaphors for aspects of the human condition than they are fully human themselves..." emphasis mine).
Well people are supposed to start learning empathy from their parents. Empathy can be triggered while CONSOOMing media by well-written works that evoke a connection between the viewer/reader and any given character, but the empathy already has to be possible for that to happen. In fact, Bob has already stated, without knowing it, that he doesn't have empathy for PoCs/Speds/LGBT+-. "I can't imagine what you're going through specifically because I am not a member of X group" is a clear statement that while he may have sympathy, he lacks empathy in this specific context. In fact, given how far up IngSoc Justice's ass Bob is, he holds himself to a belief system that specifically makes claims that certain groups of people CANNOT feel empathy for people of other groups, and to top it all off, making empathetic statements in that context is HEAVILY discouraged. It's like the "antiracist" types don't actually want different groups to feel or have empathy for each other on purpose. This is evidenced by the whole push for "Darkies/Speds/LGBT+- need to SEE THEMSELVES in media in order to not become An Hero" and insinuating or stating outright that White People are completely incapable of relating to a character that is not White, and People Of Diverse Backgrounds are completely incapable of relating to anyone that is white/straight/cis. The fact that Bob doesn't recognize that the very ideology he praises as the solution to the racisms and bigotries is in fact an anti-empathy (across diverse groups and non-diverse groups) ideology, proves that Bob has -1 understanding of empathy and what it means.

"Ask yer mum"
Bob you have never had sex. Now that you're also 40+, diabetic, and morbidly obese you never will because your dick no longer works.
"Touch grass"
Bob you're irrelevant even within the already irrelevant space of turbo nerds who talk about popcorn flicks on YouTube. Your habit of drinking yourself to death would be a threat to your ability to pay rent if you weren't living on the largesse of family in your "basement apartment". It's delusional for you to think you're the superior of anyone.
"Learned empathy from movies"
No you didn't. You have never expressed empathy. You oscillate between childish excitement over baby toys and bloody-minded revenge fantasies tweeted into the digital ether from your phone, with your fat fingers, in a soggy basement. I've babysat 10-year-olds who shared their toys with others, thus demonstrating more empathy than you, at 40+, when you make rants about how you'd fuck over all of humanity for a personal jetpack.

If Bob does read this thread; I hope you cut down on drinking, Bob. You'll live longer that way, giving us more hilarious unhinged screeds.
Bob will cut down on drinking the day he dies, and no sooner. Calling it now.

Bob, I dunno why you'd fuck my mom and not me, I'm younger. But neither of us would fuck you if you were the last man on earth, and besides, if you tried to fuck my mom (or me) my dad (and everybody else in the family tbh) would probably take matters into his own hands which would probably preclude you coming out of the situation in one piece. In short, rape jokes aren't funny, Bob, because the ONLY way you could possibly be with my mom, is raep.

Also I wonder what sort of fuckery would happen if Bob accidentally used the "YER MUM" line on a woman. That would be hilarious.

Stalin, who was a murderous criminal from day one and had already perpetrated a genocide, didn't "turn out so great either on a long enough timeline" as if everyone at the time didn't know this and the Allies decision wasn't to take advantage of the invasion of the Soviet Union against the then greater evil. The bet, which turned out correct, was that we could contain and beat the Soviets. The immediate need was freeing Europe even if we could only get half of it. If there was an obvious way to bog down the Soviets and Nazi both within the Soviet Union until the Allies could get to the backside of the Nazis I'm sure we would have tried it but it's not something you just risk in a global war. None of this requires you to pretend Stalin was an unknown.

Regarding Bob's insult du jour:

He's not very fun if you go back at him for it. I offered the response to Bob's classic zinger with my burner twitter a while ago:

And he subsequently blocked me within minutes. Don't bother.

Well now it remains to be seen whether he learns his lesson this time. Maybe if every :epik: on twitter does something like this and he has to block a gazillion as a result, maybe he'll stop. :optimistic: :lunacy:
Kinda a shame you didn't stop with the first sentence. Wonder what he would have done if you hadn't added that second bit.

Moviebob loves dishing it out, but is an absolute pussy when it comes to taking it.
Sounds like most twitter leftists not gonna lie.

Reading the last 50 or so pages has made me glad I took a brake from Motion picture Roberto - 2000 fucking pages and he's still the exact same mentally subhuman white trash mongoloid. It makes me foam at the mouth knowing this "man" dares to have the audacity to breathe my oxygen.
The fact that this thread moves almost as fast as the random CWC thread and half of it is just his novel long tirades on twitter is fucking fascinating. This guy dares to tell people to touch grass but this guy hasnt been able to tell his own dick from a line up since 2006

In fairness to the lesser brother, I noped out of seeing Nope precisely because it looked too scary for me, and I very well might've wound up doing the same.

Not least of which because of my own experience of seeing something extremely weird in the night sky once.

So let's see Bobby demonstrate the Liberal form of context-sensitive argument:

I'd forgotten to really check because my eyes glaze over when I look at too much Bob idiocy, but I hadn't noticed that Bob still hasn't changed his Twitter handle even after mentioning that he probably should a week or two ago. It'll literally take you five seconds, Bob, and then you won't have that "hilarious" "joke" that references an event that everyone but us kiwis forgot on your page anymore, confusing people who don't understand what you're trying to say (i.e., everyone).

Also, if you hang around the Lucas "Keffals" Roberts thread (great for losing even more faith in humanity!), you'd learn all about zoomers and how they don't understand what "ratio" means. Prior to when they got their hands on the term, "ratio" meant that a tweet was getting more replies than likes. A high reply-to-like ratio meant that a lot of people were probably responding negatively to the tweet in question, compared to the smaller number of likes that came from people who viewed it positively. Thus, a "ratio'd" tweet would be one that usually showed an organic and overwhelmingly negative response.

Zoomers instead bastardized it by chucking a lazy reply to it with "ratio" in the text, and encouraging all their bots friends to like their tweet instead of the original. If their tweet has more likes, they consider it a successful ratio. It's stupid because likes are much easier to do than replies, to the point that you can chuck a few dollars at a bot farm and have it throw a couple thousand likes your way. A zoomer ratio can therefore be entirely inorganic, yet they'll claim it to be legitimate every time.

I hate that I know these things. Valuable brain space is being taken up with useless internet drama knowledge. Send help, preferably in the form of booze.

No, Bob, this is what happens when different directors have wildly different visions for what they want to do with a character and there's no one on top to tard wrangle them and say "look can you just keep his characterization consistent?"

In the first movie, Thor was a brash and arrogant young upstart, self-assured and cocky. He knew he was going to be the next king and that gave him a lot of swagger, only to have that beaten down after he disobeyed Odin and was exiled as a mortal. Over time, he learned how to sacrifice for others and work as a team, and that added maturity to his character that was displayed in the followups. He had his moments of levity, sure, but he was generally a serious character, albeit one that could let his temper get the best of him at times.

Taika Waititi's movies and post-timeskip Endgame, in contrast, turn Thor into a joke. He's delivering quippy one-liners, he's taking nothing seriously, and any character development he used to have fell by the wayside. He wallows in his failure to kill Thanos before the snap and gets disgustingly fat, seemingly only for shock humor. He's little more than a "comical" buffoon, upstaged by the rest of the cast and unable to do pretty much anything anymore. And the fact that these are released with more serious versions of the character in between end up giving you whiplash as his characterization ping-pongs from one side of the spectrum to the other.

Rationalize it however you want, Bobbo, Thor is anything but consistent. Too many cooks and all that.

That sounds like you're paraphrasing one of those famous stupid Believer sayings, friendo! A properly evolved human like Bob doesn't need to listen to the words of "wisdom" from the obsoletes! Just like he doesn't need to listen to their words of advice on nutrition, grammar, video editing, etc.

You know what is funny about the whole Disney buttfucking FX artists and Robert's and his manlet troon take on it? They aren't wrong.

Yeah, it ain't just Disney doing this, it is a common standard practice in the "industry" and yes, I think Robert is right when he calls out that a lot of people harping on Disney after these articles dropped are not doing this out of concern for the artists, but because Disney is the biggest game in town and yes, also because a lot of people don't like Disney for their progressive soy-bitch pandering.

Said that, fucking spare me with the "disingenuous weasles"talk, were similiar accusations raised against a company or a person Robert doesn't like, say, like Tesla and Elon Musk, then I would love to see Robert going in apologetic sounding takes as such "Well, yeah this is bad on Tesla, but it is a widespread problem in ALL automobilistic industry", yeah?

No, of course not, Robert would go on never ending rant about Musk is the worst person walking on this green earth and for whatever jsutifications he might give, we all know it is because Musk doesn't quite share the "good guys" views on his twitter politics.

So no Robert, go fuck yourself. Your talks about nuance and looking at the bigger problem only apply when it is for your convenience, and you only have this stance when it affects your weird tribal politics.

And no, nobody buys this shit "I have no skin in this game, yes, Disney is bad" pre-emptive lampshading shit you pull Robert. You only say that because you know how pathetic it is to go to bat for the mouse, but you still do so because the people you don't like do like to bash Disney, and you can't break free from this stupid culture wars shit, when you look a pathetic weasel trying to squeek a excuse on why it ain't just a "Disney problem" and people giving you shit for that.

Don't even bother I say Robert, people already pegged you for a mark, might as well live it.

I won't disagree that Moviebob's a fucking EXPERT on EXACTLY TWO THINGS. Problem is, those two things are (a) being ignorant and (b) being evil.

A better example of criticism versus personal attack:

Criticism: Using Moviebob's words against Bob without stripping them of any context (see Bob's infamous eugenics tweet).

Personal attack: Moviebob responding to its detractors with "you're not a person".

If I found out Moviebob was going to be a guest of "honor" (LOL!) at a convention I'd be attending... seeing as how refunds aren't an option, I'd immediately be burning my sales receipt and entry pass, and the convention operators would no longer receive any of my time, no longer receive any of my money, and no longer receive any of my attention.

I've asked this before, and I'll ask it again: If Moviebob believes borders are bad, then why does Bob still live in an "apartment"? The walls in which Bob lives are no less arbitrary than the border between Mexico and the U.S.
