I was going to post this. If you watch Kennedy's speech about going to the moon, it is just pure nationalism. I mean shoot the main driving force behind the entire Age of Exploration could be argued to be nationalism.

Like a lot of "enlightened" nerds Bob's willing to pillory himself on some vague notion of "technological progress" - in what fields are never really explained, how it might affect people's lives is not really an issue. Aside from churning out enough consumables to keep pace with Bob's diet what exactly is the automation of industry supposed to do for average folks, or whatever kind of generic "progress" he's claiming to champion. The point about nationalism has already been made. When no actual economic incentives exist, arbitrary completion is probably the best way to ensure something gets done.

Even in Bob's own world-view it doesn't make sense. He believes in aggressive male chauvinism and nationalism, if such concerns were real then what better way would you have to sell billion-dollar space projects to people other than to beat other countries. Logical dissonance in-action.

Conquistador expeditions to the Americas were organised by private individuals, mostly lesser nobility and commoners who didn't have great wealth back in Spain, and aimed to seek fame and fortune for the men involved, though conquered land was claimed for Spain. The King of Spain didn't order Cortes to conquer the Aztecs, nor Pizarro Peru.

I'd say it's :autism: mixed with Bob's utter refusal to move beyond specific 80s pop culture. Bob didn't let go of his hard-on for Nintendo, so much so he associates stuff like the PlayStation and what he perceives as "grimdark" with the jocks who bullied him in high school. His worldview is narrow and myopic enough to where he's basically applied that analogy to politics, even though the world isn't that black and white. I can't really say if he grew up in an echo-chamber (I haven't read his book and I don't plan on it), but I believe that his family was working-class so hell if I know.

Bob's an odd duck out politically. If you're not too familiar with the subdivisions within the left, it'd be easy to describe him just as a regressive left asshole and call it a day, but if you really want the nitty-gritty, it's a bit more involved than that. I've covered it a few times over my time on the Farms, but the short version is that there's a tiny shred of the left that attaches itself to it solely so it can be on the "right side" of an issue, and subsequently use that to leave their own personal stamp-mark on history. In the Social Justice Bestiary, I referred to 'em as Type 1s, though I mostly remember them due to crazy chair lady. Bob Chipman falls squarely on this category.

People on the left like him have been a part of the left literally forever, but in the defense of pretty much every sane left-winger out there, nobody within the left liked these douchebags either. They were always viewed as useful idiots by politicians and representative of everything the Dems who actually stood for shit fought to combat. In turn, they all viewed us as necessary evils and idiots who needed their "guidance."

Small wonder Chippy's buddies hate us so much now.

The ideology that led to Chipman was always defined by the fact that they'd only uphold a given ideal until it offended their personal morality, at which point we were off to the races. Hence we have things like Chippy shrieking about the need to stop Jack Thompson but declaring DOAX3 haram. He belongs to the "my way or the high way" crowd we saw become increasingly nuts during the lead-up to the 2008 elections, and he hit full burn, blossoming into the ideologue we all love to mock soonafter.

Bob's something of an outlier amongst other Social Justice ideologues, for he pre-dates the infestation we saw at the academic level. He is, putting it simply, someone who has always felt a deep-seated moral superiority over other people. He is arrogant to the point of callous, completely convinced of his own intellectual superiority, and the thoughts of what Chippers would do if he thought for a second he could get away with it simply because he is morally in the right chill the blood. His whole thing is to be on the winning side and be documented for it, which is why he's such a hilarious virtue signaler.

I honestly think it's a little bit a part of being a social outcast growing up. As others have said, he's mentally still in high school, it;'s arrested development. He still sees the world as black and white, cool kids and nerds and jocks. He's desperate to be one of the cool kids and thinks through his hardcore crazy political beliefs he can "atone" and finally be one of the cool kids--he's one of the good ones, not like those other cis white men. That's why he thinks he's part of the ubermensch in his utopia, despite really, being pretty worthless and on the same social tier as the people he derides. It's part subconscious self loathing and part desperation -- desperation to be something else and live some other life.

He's so desperate for his utopia because deep down he knows he hasn't really accomplished anything meaningful, he's a joke. I think in his eyes, if he helps bring around his utopia, all that will fade away, it will be atoned for and he can finally be cool, loved, and relevant. That's why he takes it so personally. If he can make his utopia come true not only will he actually have achieved something, but in his fascist nice-guy utopia, all his dreams will come true. It'll be the ultimate safe space, but all for him. He'll be famous, cool, and most of all, powerful and influential. He'll always be right/on the right side of history, he'll be the ones telling other people who to outcast and whatever. It's a basic narcissistic power fantasy.

In Bob's case, it's kind of hard to pinpoint. If I had to guess, it might be more than one factor.

For instance, Bob mostly spends his time playing video games (usually Nintendo games, considering he wrote a book on Mario 3). And he chimps out about games about as much as he does politics and social justice, which is often. Not to mention, as I mentioned waaaaaaay far back on the first page of this thread. Bob compared video games to real-life tragedies- specifically the JFK assassination and 9/11. This more or less shows how little his world view and common sense is already.

Now you add on the fact that he's a massive left-wing idiot with a pathetic Hillary Clinton fetish. More often than not, any and everything that Bob says and types is going to be verbal diarrhea. As @Jaimas pointed out, most people who support the DNC usually would rather not be associated with the likes of Chunky Chipman or his ilk. But you know what they say about the vocal minority being louder than the silent majority. Bob is always going to assume that whatever someone says that goes against his opinion is wrong and that his is always right. Often to the point of cramming it down his followers' throats. And then he says things that no one with any lick of common sense would say, like wanting to kill Adam Sandler because he makes bad movies or his fanbase for supporting him, or how Trump is literally Hitler.

And this mind you, is before getting into his Game Overthinker videos. Which is almost nothing but pretentious BS intercut with shitty, Captain-N inspired skits. All and all, I'd argue that Bob's an unhealthy mix of everything, in more ways than one.

Do we even know how good of a student he was? He clearly doesn't have the intellect/charisma necessary of a Galt/Roark type, but he might have been decent enough in school. All in all I'm reminded of a quote from Free Fire: "He was misdiagnosed as a child genius and never got over it."

If there was any proof that Bob was a decent student, then I'd be questioning why he took such the amazing downfall that he did. But with his constant tweet vomiting and poorly-opinionated views, I just can't see the man read anything more than game manuals on a regular basis, if that.
