RLM vs. MovieBob is an evergreen topic, as far as I'm concerned. A few observations, only one of which I think is new.
1. These guys know film as art and craft in a way Bob simply doesn't. It's especially true of Mike and Jay (who I think are the only two who actually went to film school) but generally speaking all of them know what they're talking about, even if errors do creep in every now and then. They're also occasionally willing to admit when they fuck up sometimes: witness how they acknowledged in their Blade Runner 2049 review that their spoof video missed the point of what is really going on with Ryan Gosling's performance in the film.
2. The RLM guys have fun. This is about enjoying films, not swinging an intellectual dick they don't actually possess in your face. There's a level of pretentiousness they sometimes show, but that's mitigated by how willing they are to mock themselves. Bob will never say "I'm just a fat knowitall from Boston" the way RLM often refers to themselves as "Hack frauds." Yes, it would make Bob more likable.
3. This is the one that struck me recently. What kind of relationship the RLM boys have offscreen I have no idea -- Rich Evans has casually described Mike Stoklasa as his best friend, so I assume it's mostly fairly close -- but when onscreen this is just a group of buddies hanging out, having fun, and mocking shitty films and shitty video games. Other than the occasional crossover with other YouTube asylum cases, Bob does everything himself. Is it because his ego is too big to suffer competition, or is it because he doesn't have enough friends to pull off the kind of shows RLM does?
This is kind of why I lust for Bob to go after RLM in a serious way. He could do nothing but go splat right on his smug thumb-face.

Remember Bob's only claim to fame was "He wa sthe "movie guy" at a VIDEO GAME WEBSITE, who proceeded to spend years pissing on Video Gamers". This pretty much means that the only people that know of him, despise him like few others. Add to that he is the classic suburban Whitest White Dude in Town, that is on a current crusade against White people. This is not generally considered a strong approach to winning friends and influencing people.

I'm not Shamus's biggest fan -- I think he raises nitpicking over mostly decent games to an artform any autist on the Farms would envy -- but he makes a lot of very good points, and I have been dying to see him go after Bob.

I know the two of them were fairly close or at the very least friendly, even as recently as the new Ghostbusters premiere, so I wonder what caused Shamus to finally start poking the blob.

Shamus keeps his political opinions pretty close to his chest, or at least he did when I was still reading him a few years ago. Could be Bob's quasi-genocidal antiTrumpery just stuck in his craw. It's not like you can ignore it, really.

It might've been caused by the rift he had recently between himself and Josh Viel, another former Escapist writer and co-commentator on Shamus' former let's play series, caused by Josh wanting to purge "problematic" comments on one of Shamus' posts about their let's play videos. Josh and those who sided with him (Chris from Errant Signal, etc.) are very firmly in the SJW camp and are ardent followers of Movie Bob's particular brand of BS.
