I'll never understand the attachment people put on these things. I mean, I played a lot of Jazz Jackrabbit while my parents were getting divorced. But I've got no attachment to anything but a nostalgia for the game. Like what goes wrong in someone's brain that a marketing mascot becomes a genuine "friend". I mean that's gotta go beyond autism.
Because what's the point of wreeeing over a Mario movie ever? I mean I can sperg out over Advent Children, because FF7 had a plot, and characters. Mario is a blank slate. He's a stand in. He's never hinted at a character beyond possibly wanting to fuck pasta
Bob, like all his clique, is a serial projector, in that he attempts to push facts true about himself onto other people. Bob is a bigoted piece of filth, so
everyone else is a nazi. Bob is an intolerant prick, so
everyone else is [insert prefix here]phobic. Bob feels the ends justify the means in every circumstances, so everyone else is guilty of it.
What does this have to do with Mario? Well, everything.
One thing Chippy does - and does a
lot - is claim that gamers are entitled because they feel they're owed a comfort zone, and their opposition to his Social Justice tardmonkey allies is entirely because they don't want his glorious superior future horning in on their digital worlds, arguing that they've kept such things to themselves for too long and it's now time to step back and let his buddies take the wheel. This, literally, is the excuse he gives for why so many people take issue with Chippy's superior future schtick in vidya (misogyny/*ism/etc aside, of course).
But then you remember Bobby's tendency to
project like a motherfucker, and you realize that for him, the Mario series
is that comfort zone. This is the one part of Chippy that isn't some carefully-crafted part of his online persona, to be virtue-signaled whenever he needs attention - the lone piece of the real Chipman most ever get to see.
At his core, Chippy's always been a raging hypocrite, but it's here that his own mentality is laid bare: He's nothing less than the
exact same kind of shrieking fanboy that he fucking loves to insult, if not infinitely worse. He rattles on hard about Mario because it lets him smokescreen a bit and pretend that he's not exactly the same as the most Autistic of Sonic fans, when if anything, he's worse. He chooses it because it's the lone series socially-acceptable enough for him to like publicly and still claim to have something resembling fondness for vidya.
In the end, Chipman is what he hates.
