As in Boston itself or the part of town he's in? From a quick look online, Boston seems to be around 55-60% white with no minority populations in the double digits besides African Americans dancing around 25%.

If it's really part of your business, sure. But you do have to be able to prove it if asked, not just the amount but the "used this for business" part. (If you claimed 100% of the cost, that's "used this *only* for business" at that. Good luck with that on game-related stuff that's in your home...) And the IRS is quite well aware that people often try to exaggerate their expenses for home-based businesses, so they look for shit that looks suspicious. Unconventional or excessive expenses are a good way to be noticed by whatever algorithms they use to pick targets.

I sometimes wonder if the rise of Patreon and stuff like that is a ticking timebomb that is going to explode in the face of some "content creators" who think it's free money...

That's the one thing that's fucking hard to find. I've got a goddamn degree in Computer Systems and I work in a factory. But South Dakota. It's why I'm going to school for teaching, because we need those bad. Local school doesn't even have a science teacher.
