It is an obsession rather than diligence or anything positive. You won't commend on someone who spend all his waking hour transferring marbles from one jar to another, even though he technically does "work".
I don't think he is mature enough to think about romance. He almost never reviews movies of which love or sex is the central theme, and when he does (e.g. the movie Elle), his comments are wide off the mark.
