As someone who was :autism: to read the entirety of Marvel's publication history and keep up with modern stuff (not as hard as it sounds), Black Panther discussion is going to kill me. It's always "HOL UP. You be saying we wuz Kangz?" jokes or "OMG THIS REPRESENTATION HAS GIVEN ME LIKE 20 BONERS. I DIDN'T KNOW BLACK PEOPLE COULD DO THINGS".

Please, society, can we not go through this? Wakanda isn't even a real place so I don't know who is "represented" and it's a literal ethnostate that attributes their success to it. Not at all what you want to back if you claim to be "against Nazis". Just because T'Challa is (comparatively) a decent guy doesn't change that.

I will probably need to find a bunker to live in for a while.

It makes me wonder if the film will go over the more controversial aspects of Wakanda and the nature of their isolationist ethnostate that hordes tech? I bet not because that would require risk in writing on par with Iron Man but I guess Bob would shit his pants if the "POC Superior Future" was shown in an at least somewhat negative light.

I kind of want to watch it when it comes out, but I'm not sure if it'll actually be good or full of WE WAS KANGS.

I think it'd be worse if they go in the opposite direction of them dropping that to become more open and democratic with T'Challa still having "Fuck you, I'm the king" power for some reason.

That's kinda how the comics tried "fixing" Wakanda recently when it's not really something that was a problem from a story point of view. It's still not like anyone can walk in though unless I'm forgetting some scene. I admit my brain turns off when I'm looking at modern Black Panther who they keep making too many spin-offs of, none last. T'Challa is barely the main character of his own story at this point and instead they focus on random Wakandans who are super special apparently.

Captain N and the whole gimmick of him entering his console into a world where video games are all real (at least in a form made by people who never looked at the games in question) is probably the most autistic story concept I've seen. Did people really watch this in the 80s/early 90s?
Probably, since it lasted more than one episode. But, if it makes you feel any better, it was one of the reasons why NBC ditched its Saturday morning cartoon block (the other is, of course, the fact that Saved by the Bell became popular).

While Bob and others cream themselves over Black Panther, they conveniently forget this guy but I guess he's not a "major black superhero".

Edit: I could have included a clip from the Spawn movie since that came out first but because he was not from Marvel or DC, he probably doesn't count either.

I honestly bet that Black Panther will be alright and decent because its Marvel and we at least have a baseline quality to go by, but I am bet we are going to have a generic and boring villain that will be beaten without much struggle. Though this is getting into fatigue territory with having Infinity War coming that we are entering the possibility of Disney bring a potential crash into the big budget films if the handling of Star Wars is anything to go by.

Well it takes place in Africa. And the characters consist of Africans. Therefore it represents African culture.

That's literally all it takes for these people.

Don't forget the weird not-quite-British accents. That's how you know you're dealing with an African African-American, not a regular African-American.

Well if the trailers have spoiled anything, it will have Andy Serkis' character from Age of Ultron and a black guy with a similar panther suit who may be redeemed at the end because you can't have a POC villain in the current year (I recall outrage over Samuel L. Jackson being the villain in Miss Peregrine's Home for Particular Children film adaptation).

:offtopic:Well, to be frank my reaction to the Black Panther trailer was, "Meh. Looks like a standard action film with above average production design." There is not much else to it and Eric Killmonger looks like another standard MCU villain that will probably bite the bullet before the end.:offtopic:

Is it me or does Wakanda a country full of magical negroes? Bob is fine with it because that he is one of those people who have a superficial appreciation for African-Americans because of his fetishization of oppression and minorities. If Disney continues to appeal to this crowd (and I have seen social justice seep into the MCU), they could very be looking at a crash somewhere down the road despite getting Fantastic Four and X-Men back.

It is less magic tech minorities in my book and the fact that the yearly and biyearly superhero films are starting to get played out and Star Wars are going the same direction as this looks like dour times ahead for genre movies. On the plus side this could really damage Disney and it could lead to Bob having a stroke.
