They still can't let go of Fembusters? I'm not surprised really, but how autistic can you get? I can barely remember that fucking thing existed and they act like it's the biggest thing in cinema since Hitchcock got famous. And that crap about anti-Hillary mobilization really shows how lacking in perspective Blob really is. That's almost, "The Wizard had the cultural impact of 9/11" levels of retardation.

There's a little bit of truth to the anti-Hillary stuff, in that Ghostbusters got on the Hillary train without realizing a drunken Casey Jones was the engineer. There were a few pro-Hillary tweets and sentiments expressed that undoubtedly alienated some potential audience members. Of course Bob sees this as the audience being a bunch of backwards anti-woman troglodytes instead of it as evidence that movies should avoid politics if they want a broad fanbase, and frankly the movie was so shit I doubt it really made much difference.
Really, the most obnoxious thing about all this is what Bob merely implies: the original movie wasn't that good; its legacy is due to the associated merchandise. This is so wrong it's hard to know how to attack it. The 1984 Ghostbusters is a classic and a cultural touchstone for anyone who grew up in the 80s. It's still funny today and its own sequel proved it was lightning in a bottle and no remake was apt to be well-received. It's the same shtick you occasionally see from Star Wars prequel defenders and some (surprise, surprise) Last Jedi fans: "Oh, the original wasn't that good, you're holding the new one up to an impossible standard!"

Yup, totally going to happen when the originals are returning in the comics and Marvel Entertainment had gotten Studios to leave after being sick of their shit. How is this rumor still alive when it shows both a misunderstanding of Marvel and the MCU as a whole? First off they wouldn't need to recast anyone as that'd just lead to more fatigue and the MCU runs on real time, multiple Avengers are already older than the early 30s they are in the comics. They already mentioned that Dr. Strange is going to be the new flagship like Iron Man was and MCU Spider-Man already cockblocks whatever role Riri might've hoped for.
Marvel Studios has enough original characters they could use that we wouldn't need repeats.

I like how Bob just knows that people see Aquaman as a joke because it is not like other takes have shown the character to be a serious badass. No, people only remember him from the Super Friends

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure that Bob actually did make a Really That Good for the original Ghostbusters. Again I could be wrong but if I'm not then it's just more irony and hypocrisy to throw on the fire.

Now I am in the split minority who loves the Prequel Star Wars films along with the Originals, but I am not going to lie to myself and say they are better than the original as they owe alot of momentum to the original goodwill of beloved characters in a simple but timeless story. I honestly believe though with Bob's fierce defense of TLJ or Ghostbusters 2016 isn't really due to objective love of those films as films, but because they seem to confirm his worldview. Honestly the worst thing to happen to film criticism is that people aren't judging films by their own merit, but based on if this film adheres to my worldview.

Fuck me. In that review (I can't bear to listen to it, but he kindly provides a link to a transcript, as one might kindly provide extra helpings of botulism-tainted canned tuna), he actually specifically refutes the idea that Ghostbusters's reputation is due to its merchandising instead of its actual quality. What happened, Bob? Melissa McCarthy and Kate McKinnon give you 'giney tickles?
EDIT: This review is painful to read. Bob is an almost impossibly terrible writer.

Bob's hatred of the DCEU knows no bounds, does he? Even if it had more lighthearted tone similar to the MCU, he would be complaining loudly that Warner Bros. was copying Marvel's notes and that the studio is not treating its iconic characters with enough "reverence." What I find utterly hilarious that he bashes Jason Momoa's acting when there is something about the MCU and the sequel SW trilogy that sucks the talent out of otherwise exceptional actresses. The worst culprits in my view are Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok and Rey in TFA/TLJ (and throw in Rose Tico in there as well) as their sole function in the story is to conform to an ideological "kickass woman who doesn't need a man" cliche with extremely thin or nonexistent character development. As @Kyria the Great said, the only reason why Bob loves and vigorously defends them is because they affirm his worldview.
But fuck him, while Justice League was a mediocre film (at best) Momoa's Aquaman had more a more convincing personality than Daisy Ridley's Rey, who sleepwalked through TWO films. Hell, Cavill put in a much better performance in the climax and acted more like the Superman I remembered from the comics. At least they acted more like characters and not glorified props.

I can't wait for Bob's "TLJ was a love letter to Star Wars fans" video just because he retcon'd Rey in his head and gave her a completely different backstory. In Bob's made-up canon, she's a Star Wars fangirl who set out to master all the skills of her idols until she met them about a week ago and all of them are a mockery of their legacies except her of course. This is "brilliant" because it's representative of a newer more diverse generation of Star Wars fans that grew up hearing about it and aren't going to make the mistakes of the past. Rey spent day and night trying to become a pilot like Han Solo or a force user like Luke because she adored them so so so much.
