Swords are also an object that were designed to efficiently end human lives and weren't also pulling double duty as tools. Swords are used for decoration, for sport, for making a mess on Youtube when some fatass cuts through a water bottle, used in HEMA competitions to showcase athleticism...and oh guess what, everything I just said could potentially be applied to guns, except for maybe decoration cause that's just kinda creepy, but you can still admire the craftsmanship and design of a weapon without even thinking about using it.

For example, I admire the beautiful efficiency of the Kel-Tec KSG Double Barreled Shotgun, a weapon that a friend of mine accurately described as "15 shells and two barrels of you have the wrong house". While it is not something I would desire to own, it is a very well designed weapon with plenty of care and craftsmanship put into it.

What I am saying is that guns having a 'fandom' is honestly not a bad thing. Fans of guns are far more likely to learn how to safely handle a firearm and far LESS likely to shoot someone with it. I encourage people to learn how to be safe, which includes not being a damn hero.

And at least you can claim that your fandom is less spergy than Bob's autistic Mario fetish and Nash's Vampire LARPing.

Nash and Bob don't seem to get that, within any firearms use context there is no one-size fits all firearm. If you hunt the full range of game types in North America you need at least two or three distinct firearms. If, you for example- reasonable Kiwi, wanted to go rabbit hunting, then it would be unwise to take a .30 deer hunting cartridge. There wouldn't be enough of the rabbit left to justify the hunt, and full size rifle rounds cost a lot more than .22 rounds or birdshot.

Most people that own guns on the enthusiast level are going to own multiples. That's okay and it's nothing to speed about. The guy with a safe full of 30 guns is probably a productive participant in the economy to be able to afford such a hobby.

There's also the fact that "for protection" can mean different things in different situations. Most people with a CCW will probably carry something compact, lightweight and easily concealable. At home they might have a full size pistol, shotgun or carbine for a bit more punch. Most carriers understand that the first defensive function of a gun is to deter. The threat of lethal force can persuade and cause someone to question whether your belongings are worth their life. Responsible civilians (not saying that's the majority, but FWIW) that are trained with firearms understand that lethal force is a last resort and the use of that force can very well be ruled unjustifiable.
