Mentioning two JAPANESE characters in an attempt at pleasing CHINA....

He... Does he know? I honestly don't think he knows....

Bob, if you are reading this, if you think Trump supporters are racist, you have seen NOTHING compared to how a Chinese nationalist sees any other non Chinese Asian people.
Bob would probably something something azn people can't be racist because America has majority white people something something colonialism something something Institutional Power plus prejudice, completely ignoring that Chinese people, not white people, have the all-hallowed Institutional Power in China.

The man just really want to see Star Trek TNG in his lifetime, doesn't he?

Don't get me wrong. I love TNG, but.... It's fantasy. It ain't real. Humans are too diverse and too greedy to ever form a single cohesive unit with no infighting whatsoever. You can do it in fiction, but I'm reality, it's either never going to happen or going to take much, much longer than you seem to think, chief.

Bob is clearly part of the "I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE!" crowd that actually knows shit about science.

Even colonizing the nearest bodies in this solar system is decades away at best, and there are so many unanswered questions and daunting technical problems with getting out of our solar system that "aggressively colonizing space" might well be centuries away, if it's even possible. It's not even entirely clear we can survive on Mars thanks to the radiation. Even our own moon might be impossible to do much with because of the hazards of lunar dust (they tested some on lab rats and it was so toxic it fucked them up at a chromosomal level).

I personally think we'll overcome most if not all of these obstacles, but it's not going to be any time soon, and it sure as shit isn't going to depend on whether the Democrats or the Republicans are running the government.

If Bob wanted to move to goddamn China, the odds are incredibly stacked AGAINST him. Very few people have become naturalized citizens of China, that you can count how many there are on your fingers and toes. Just take a look at the people who managed to do so and what they did for a living.

The one thing I find utterly hilarious about Bob trying to ingratiate himself to China is that he is the epitome of the buizao (I'm not entirely certain that is the correct spelling of the term) or "white liberal" that millions of Chinese people treat with contempt. I'm trying to envision a scenario where Bob tries to suck up to a group of Chinese nationals who then proceed to laugh and mock him in Mandarin. Being the moron he is, Bob would probably join in the guffawing without even realizing that he is the joke.

I often wonder why Bob believes that the Democrats are so interested in space exploration.

Wow, who would of thought that being a small critic on YouTube isn't that sought after of an occupation when applying to live in another country? It's almost like you would have to have the mentality of child to think that that's an important occupation to hold.

I think at some point he actually did address the fact that historically Democrats haven't been great for space exploration because of the element that considers it a waste of money better spent on social programs, but as with anything that sullies his black and white view of the world he simply handwaved it. (And really, it's even less black and white than that -- you can't say the Democrats are always shitty for space exploration when you stop to think we probably owe the moon landing to Kennedy.) As to where it is? Fuck if I know, man. I can't keep up with that endless stream of nonsense on Twitter. I don't know how he does it ... although being glued to your phone while you're at a destination wedding in Cancun apparently helps.

It's probably been a thing with him for longer but considering he loves the MCU which did it with their take on Thor, I kinda blame "Clarke's Third Law" getting tossed around in series with clearly fantastical elements. It ignores that Arthur C. Clarke wrote hard sci-fi and not "science-fantasy" stuff. The thing was just an excuse for his work to do more unrealistic things when called for.

So you get people who hear "A caveman finding a cell phone might think it's a god box" and then make the leap to "You get wizard powers if you science hard enough". I suppose it makes sense if they're the "caveman" but my point is the misunderstanding. Yeah, we might find workarounds but the universe still has limitations.

It's apparent that Bob has problems distinguishing reality from fiction. His obsession with media and him viewing it as one of the most important aspects in life lends me to speculate that Bob believe's that fiction (fiction in the science or fantasy variety) is only false in the fact that it didn't happen, not in the fact that it can't happen.

Even if the story didn't happen, Bob still believes what happens in it could happen in real life. He doesn't understand that in real life there are limitations to what is shown in media. Normal people can accept certain things that occur in fiction thanks to suspension of disbelief, but we know at the end of the day that those things can't really happen.

Bob doesn't though. He sees something on TV or in a movie and proceeds to accept that as a possible outcome. Screw real life implications, if it could happen in a movie it could happen in the real world with just the right people!

Very true. Historically, space is very much a bipartisan thing; The Planetary Society was quite pleased with what the Republican congress did with NASA's budget in the last few years of Obama's presidency, and it's probably incontestable that the best-informed major senator in recent years was Newt Gingrich.

Of course, it's possible to lean towards supporting the Democratic initiatives in space, but I suspect Bob isn't well-informed enough to discuss Republican space policy vs. Democratic space policy intelligently. It certainly isn't the slam-dunk he imagines it to be.

the only way you could get something like star trek is if humanity faced an overwhelming force without, banded together, lost a significant portion of it's population defeating said enemy.. and then reinforcing the unity with threats of "if we don't stick together, we will fall apart".
this is how you get evil universe star trek

As a God-bothering man myself, I would like to give you a lesson in how to make converts.

First, you set the example. Through kind, selfless actions, you cultivate a personality that makes you an engaging person to be around. If you have trouble telling what good actions are, pay attention to how people respond to those actions and if they invite you to parties and get-togethers.

Second is a very crucial one- Shut up. Say a few things, but the less you talk, the more time people have to reflect on your words and think "That person had some good ideas. I wonder what else they could tell me". Constantly preaching will have the adverse effect of making people avoid listening to you at any opportunity they can get. In other words, you have to make them feel smart and like your ideas were their ideas. Then they will more readily accept them.

That would require Moviebob letting sizeable air out of his ego, so I'm not holding my breath for his vision of the future to happen.

They'd roast his ass. They love to make fat jokes at people who aren't even half his size. Chances are, he'd probably come out of that conversation thinking his Chinese name was Pang Zi.

That’s if he can survive in China by obeying orders and not having to eat greasy cheeseburgers everyday five minutes and more importantly, not being on the internet every second.

Just saying, the fundamental basis of the Star Trek society is that scarcity is a thing of the long past. I guess the idea is that humans would progress past materialism once everybody could in theory own anything, and move into an era of generosity if they knew they would never need anything.

But that is never going to happen, and it doesn't help anyone to pretend that it has happened already.
