While I highly doubt it's because of the Asian film industry (which is quite good in my opinion, really love those Asian-made exploitation films), it's probably because Bob's a closet weeb. Jesus even in my self admitted weebish high school days in the 90's I gave absolutely zero fucks about Chun-Li's tits, it wasn't exactly what one watched street fighter for.

Though that fight scene was pretty awesome from what I remember.

This is something I spoke about on the moviebob thread. Let me expand and adjust it here.

I heard it called "blank canvas movies" - it seems popular nowadays as a trend. A feature of these films is that often they are so weak at telling a story, the audience has to "fill in" gaps in order to make it work. Essentially those who watch it invent their own fanfiction and overlay that onto what's on screen. One thing I have come to realize which makes these things kind of brilliant is that this act of fan fiction invests the audience member into the film as if they had worked on it along side the crew. Because in a sense they have. Therefore any attack on the film becomes an attack on these fans' sense of self and being just as if a real fanfic they wrote was criticized. They're taking it personally because it is personal for them - you're critiquing their work. It's almost like turning movies into a cult.

For proof of this kind of thing, I offer the divergent descriptions of the Last Jedi. Hasn't anybody else noticed that when moviebob or IHE or Patrick Williams or any of the other defenders are talking about the film, they don't quite agree with each other? Sometimes it downright seems like they didn't watch the movie at all? Well that's our sign. None of them have watched the same movie because they've all filled in the blank canvas with their own personal designs. (Compare this to the original Star Wars which everybody absolutely agrees upon what happened in it.)

TL;DR- Bob takes the movie personally because to him it is a personal movie. You're not criticizing just any film, but HIS film.

Heck given his theory that the film is about movies i wouldn't doubt he sees himself as Luke.

Note the clever elision in Bob's words. He refers to Trump and all the god-botherers as mocking a "rape victim." But that's not really what Ford is. Even if you believe every word she said without reservation, believe that the incident occurred and Kavanaugh is the one responsible, then all that happened is a misdemeanor assault, which could not even be prosecuted once she failed to report it for over a year. Amazingly, he even sort of acknowledges this in a contemporaneous tweet.
