Now that B-dawg made a zillion bucks, how much of that is going to be donated to starving African ladies with AIDS?

Wasn't the difference that Black Panther was a movie that people liked? I never saw it because I don't see many movies in theaters anymore, but I heard good things about it from people of all walks of life, so it didn't have the weird political stint that got pushed by the actor of Captain Marvel and no one else. I don't remember anyone pushing Black Panther but audiences, really. With Captain Marvel you saw Disney buying out theaters so that they'd only play that and nothing else, which is just downright scummy. It's not gonna change anything other than negatively impact their public image, but it's still just gross.
Black Panther also had the advantage of being in Civil War before getting his own film. Marvel was smart enough to give people a small taste of Black Panther so they could get an understanding of who the character was and build a legitimate demand for his own movie. It was a pretty ingenious way of introducing a formerly obscure character to a general audience.

Marvel's upper management still hasn't gathered that Carol Danvers, much like any other character in existence, needs to actually be developed and go through some sort of arc before people really start giving a shit about them. As far as they see, all they need to do is say she's a strong woman and she'll rise to the top. That's why Captain Marvel defeating Thanos in Endgame will go over about as well as taking a shit on the floor in front of the Queen. People have spent the past decade watching these characters develop on screen and have thusly grown attached to them, so seeing what may be their last hurrah get resolved by having the product of the week come out and defeat the main villain by having a greater powerlevel will really piss people off.

Granted, Bob will defend the film no matter what, spouting how Captain Marvel saving the day is symbolic of superior future defeating the repressive past or something. Then he'll tell us to grow up while continuing to dig his basement deeper into the comforts of 80's nostalgia.

If that happens, all I could see is Bob liking it the same reasons he liked The Last Jedi.

He's trying to do the typical woke 'lol who cares what a bunch of old white guys have to say*' spiel to play to his audience as usual.

*excepting the enlightened ones like him, of course

That someone who fancies himself a writer would sneer at a movie that tells the story of the OED is pathetic.

I’m sure one day the MCU will make a movie where the X-Men go back in time to save the two black transsexual midgets who wrote the first dictionary from a horde of time traveling nazis who want to steal credit for their work. But until they do that, Bob will have to settle with a movie nobody’s going to make him watch.
