However, even in his most left-wing moments, the only frame of reference he has is video games and movies- some really old and really bad ones too.

Anyways, what has eluded Bob's superior intellect is that people don't avoid cane swords, because 'you need to know how to use the weapon' (it doesn't take a genius to know not to hold a sword by the pointy end). People avoid cane swords, because getting caught using them can have legal repressions (they are considered concealed weapons in most jurisdictions) and because stabbing a guy in self defense with a fancy cane sword is probbably going to look worse in court than beating a guy in self defense with a metal cane.

The linkage of modern Democrats to the pro-slavery/Jim Crow Democrats is "just a meme", yes, and not a very effective one either. What isn't just a meme is the "soft bigotry of low expectations" that modern Democrats apply to blacks, or the fact of so many SJWs deliberately choosing to live in lily-white gated communities. Modern Democrats are absolutely anti-black racists, just in a different and sneakier way now. They need to be called on it as often and as effectively as possible but trying to link them to the Democrats of old is not a good way to do that.

To add on what @The Littlest Shitlord said Democrats today expect the black Americans to vote for them because they'll protect them from the "evil" Republicans. Joe Biden said during the 2012 election to a black audience that Mitt Romney would "put y'all back in chains". Any blacks that deviate from the Democrat party are as "race traitors" or props for the white man (irony not withstanding). Bette Milder recently posted a tweet asking how much did Trump pay black supporters to be at his rally. Also Dr. Ben Carson has been ostracized because he is part of the Trump Administration. His name was even removed from a high school building in Detroit.
