That's why I say Batman Forever is, visually, possibly the greatest looking Batman movie ever and really relished it's over the top villains. Gotham looking like Chicago bums me out, but the way they married weird gothic architecture with wild neon shit in these early ones was pretty fun. I also really like how it put such a focus on height, so many scenes involve understanding the perilous nature of about to fall and it had all these extreme angles.

While Val Kilmer doesn't make the best Bruce Wayne it's impossible not to like Tommy Lee Jones in this.

Hell, iirc, the cinematography in that movie got a Oscar nomination and was top-notch.

I get that, and I'm sure pinheaded studio execs who were still thinking of the 1960s tv show despite the success of the 1989 movie (and almost certainly because of the criticisms of Batman Returns, which was so dark it became unintentionally funny) were okay to sign off on it. But I'm only talking about today's critics, looking for a reason the say nice things about one of the most hated movies of all time, and latching onto this camp excuse as if it really makes the movie tolerable.

I agree with the overall sentiment but we exist in a society where culture, mythology, entertainment, and commerce are all political. If a movie has too many white people you may hear a Democratic candidate mention it in a speech. The real issue is that they're right, everything is political but that's the problem with politics and not entertainment.
