It's a shame because the story of Atlantis is in there and that's an allegory for what happens to a nation when it becomes too corrupt.
Athens beat back the Atlanteans because Athens was not morally corrupt at it's core, because even though the Atlanteans were superior as a civilization their leadership was corrupt as they come and they ceased to exist because of it.

One observation I have of China is that the leadership has never shed the "Middle Kingdom" nonsense, even after getting their asses handed to them in the Opium Wars and everything that happened afterward. That is not to say that the Chinese people are a lost cause. The citizens of Hong Kong are putting their lives on the line to resist Chairman Pooh and Taiwan AKA the Republic of China is less corrupt and inept as far as I'm aware. One of the chief reasons why they have gotten away with their shit show is because Western Civilization has grown complacent and greedy because we want our shitty electronics made be (near) slave labour on the cheap and outsourced our manufacturing sector to them.
Frankly, I believe recognizing the PRC was one of the biggest geopolitical errors of the 20th century in hindsight. My great-grandfather (no names) was Canada's ambassador to Norway and High Commissioner of India, and spent much of his career fighting for the recognition of the PRC because he was born in China to Lutheran missionaries and had ties to the PRC and ROC. I have an inkling that even he would be horrified at what the PRC is doing right now. Just because the Cold War ended with the Soviet Union's collapse does not mean the world's nations are all friends working toward one goal. I repeat: the PRC and Russia are exploiting the naivety, greed, and outright stupidity of people like Bob and the politicians HE supports to advance their own interests at the expense of our own.
