And most of the "service jobs" don't match the stability and earning potential that manufacturing had in the rust belt. If a factory worker gets laid off after 10 or 20 years and has to move to a service job, he has to basically start from zero with the earning potential of someone brand new. It's a shitty situation to be in.

Most people that live in the real world want stable incomes and steady jobs.

Not to mention, the Wu Flu has made it painfully obvious that it's really dumb to outsource all your manufacturing to an adversarial nation. When China at the outset of the pandemic said that the US had better watch themselves or China would just hoard all the drugs, that wasn't entirely bluster: China controls an overwhelming majority of pharmaceutical production, as well as production of the chemicals that make up the drugs. They didn't reach that position by playing fair, the government deliberately pushed the costs so low that other companies went bankrupt trying to keep up, and once they cornered the market, they were free to do whatever they wanted, including making substandard drugs that poisoned those who took them.

These decisions were only being made for one reason: profits for the guys at the top. Cutting back on labor costs means more money in the pockets of the CEOs and higher stock prices. They don't care that they're putting thousands of their countrymen out of work with no say in the matter, nor do they care that their products are getting objectively worse year over year. All they care about is money.

And of course, Bob is too much of an idiot to understand this, thinking that it's the workers' fault they lost their jobs. "Evolve or get out of the way!" screams the basement-dwelling fatso as he laps up the megacorps' shit like a good consoomer.

If there's one thing I really hope is an actual casualty of the Wu Flu, it's the fucking MCU. Please, just let this abomination die already. To Bob, intelligence is identical to virtue (and virtue is entirely defined by him and his ilk). Mengele and Ted Bundy are stupid because they're evil, functionally retarded people are smart if they're just kind and caring. Bob sees himself as virtuous, empathetic and caring, and so he sees himself as smart, and as was posted later, he recognizes that he has some very cruel and sadistic sides to him, which he then sees as his most stupid sides.
With Bob, one always has to view what he says through his definitions of words. When he says that the leaders should be smart, educated elites and "small 't' technocrats" he doesn't just mean engineers and scientists with MIT degrees and hard practical knowledge.
