I'm pretty sure that gif is from Throne of Blood, Kurosawa's adaptation of Macbeth IN FEUDAL JAPAN! That makes the original Shakespeare comparison make more sense as well.
I dunno, in the hands of a talented filmmaker the idea has promise. Rember, the samurai were a class, not just guys who knew how to use swords, so you can do more than just combat. Ofc this is Snyder, so expect slo-mo and 3edgy5u gore instead of anything serious.
