Nothing amazing is ever going to happen to them. They’re never going to be famous or attractive. They’re not going to attain power and status.

There's that saying that conservatives are liberals who have been mugged by reality, but I think a truer one would be that adults are just children who have been mugged by reality. At some point as a young adult, you hit a big wake up call about the world and who you are in it, and for most people that means growing up and adjusting to this reality. In short, being an adult is learning to deal with things as they are, not as you want them to be. Doing the best with the hand you're dealt in life.

Not Bob though! He and his kind are mugged by reality over and over again and never have that epiphany that maybe they need to change something. They're the equivalent of a guy who walks down a shady alley every day and gets their wallet stolen at gunpoint every day and just can't figure out not to go down that alley. Even worse, Bob is entirely sure that only the unenlightened masses would avoid going down that alley, and the world would be a better place if everyone went down the alley and got their wallet stolen. That's why Bob is so fun: watching someone embarrass himself on social media once is something you feel pity for, but once someone does it twenty times a day, gets laughed at by every corner of the internet, and then has the gall to say everyone who does anything that doesn't make them look like a jackass is a subhuman who should have been killed off long ago, it's one of the funniest things imaginable. He does this because he's a child getting repeatedly mugged by reality and responding like a child who's too young to be self-aware and reflect would.
