I've never understood the appeal of Roblox. To either kids or adults. Like I hear about all the things you can create in roblox and you can hang out with your friends, and yada yada. But to me this game looks so fucking displeasing to the eyes and janky and as adults, what the fuck is bringing you to this game? I've only seen 2 good things come out of this game and those were both famous FPS games I can't remember the name of right now. The rest is furry sex shit and pedophiles. Please someone enlighten me.

It's kind of hard to find value in it if you didn't experience it first hand.

Roblox does not consist of only slop, ripoffs(well theres a lot of those), or grooming gayops.
You just have to find the gems under the rubble. And you mostly find them being mentioned outside of roblox. Because forum is gone and the ability to socialize and find certain interests requires investigative skills which is kind of a good system since children are mostly retards that play through the limited app and not browser.

It's overall a very flexible multipurpose platform and also a nice start to game development for autists who want to create their dream game.

I personally used roblox to have virtual dates when the girlfriend is away, bond and tease siblings by messing with their "build to survive x" bases, go down rabbitholes to admire the autism of tightly knit and well structured larp groups, observe niggers doing nigger behavior in "Da Hood" then provoke them for chimpouts, develop heated grudges from bruised egos, have hour long debates in obvious ragebait booths in "rate my avatar", Measure one's masculinity based on the depth of a dude's voice. (Corpse fags are automatically disqualified.)
We Zoomers just fuck with roblox, and It's evident roblox wants to capitalize on my generation by adding things like UGC, voicechat and 17+ games.
(I hate the addition of 17+ games though. It's unpopular and not that different from regular games other than allowing excessive gore, tobacco and alcohol references, and swearing.
Now that 17+ is added I can't call people faggots so casually anymore, now it needs to be moderated because roblox is phasing out voice chat to the public. A fucking lie from Roblox that originally claimed that voice chat wouldn't be moderated.)

You can further understand why Ruben continues to cherish the game even at his age, Just by watching one of his electric state dark rp videos. it can give you a glimpse of the fun and edgy possibilities that can happen in roblox. I personally recommend the one with the xxxtentacion memorial.

Back when I joined, there were a bunch of random games you could play for free. yeah, the quality was middling at best, but when you are a kid, it doesn't really matter. It was free vidya, and many of the games weren't heavily monetized, so you didn't need to steal your mom's credit card to play them. It also wasn't infested with furfags either, most of the games were just stuff like "LONGEST OBSTACLE COURSE," or "Build to survive creepypasta," or remakes of popular videogames but in Roblox, like CoD Zombies. It was dumb, but ultimately simple shit that would absolutely appeal to an 11-year-old with low standards and nothing better to do.
it wasn't completely perfect; when I joined, "Online Daters" existed, but as I remember it, they were well-known, and disliked universally. None of the weird Pedo sex cult shit or "ironic" furfaggotry you'd see today.

Nowadays, there are like 2 games that I occasionally come back to.
I acknowledge that I absolutely grew out of the intended audience that ROBLOX appeals to, but when you strip out the platform's aesthetic, many of the games were just simple, dumb fun that didn't ask much of you. Not to mention the games that were fun because of actual, competent game design and would still be fun today if people still played them.

You rarely find stuff like that nowadays. everything on the front page is built to strip you of your cash, and the games that fit the criteria of "simple, fun, no/few strings attached" are getting harder to find.
it's such a shame.

It's free to make an account, it runs on a lot of computers, and its game engine is highly accessible. It's basically like Club Penguin or Neopets except the entire experience is user created.

When I was a kid, it was jaw-droppingly advanced virtual Legos completely for free, the ability to create whatever you want and play with virtual blocks with your friends was really unique and unmatched. These days it's nothing like its former self and full of tons of gaudy games made to optimally extract cash from little kids.

Roblox in a way is much like a lot of other game engines like Unity, Unreal, Godot, Bevy, Etc. The only real difference is that unlike the other engines, you don't have to worry about low level performance as much as the other engines. It's a very attractive options for people who are first time developers or don't know jack shit about game development.

The only reason why you wouldn't want to use ROBLOX over anything else is because you would have to deal with the obnoxious decal system (a.k.a to add textures in your games) and an update on ROBLOX Studio that could break your game entirely.*

Adventure Quest was one made a few years ago that got pretty popular. I think there's a few others but none of them that weren't Pokemon spin-offs got popular.

There's a Paper Mario-esque game called Blocky Tales, you can fight the enemies with your friends and it's pretty cool, however, it's only a demo for now.

There's also some nicer looking games that also play great, but those are much more niche, and since it's not slop for kids with low attention spans, it never reaches the front page or any significant popularity with rare exceptions.

There are still tons of great Payday-inspired Co-op games if you're into those kind of stuff, and there's also other gems such as Centaura and Guts and Blackpowder beneath the oversaturated re-skinned gambling anime shit that is constantly flooding the main page of the game.

Idle and Vibe games were also good places to hang-out, Personally enjoyed games like Amazing Bunker Simulator or the Vibe Cafe.

Actually, there is one sort of turn based RPG that was somewhat popular for a bit called Arcane Lineage, although has very questionable game mechanics in which there is difficulty for the sake of difficulty. I haven't played much of it, because it's so janky and hardly fun even with friends, but essentially is inspired by and follows the 'Rogue Lineage' (Which in itself has a goldmine of a community) philosophy, where the entire game is permadeath and making a single mistake in one of the 4000 difficulty spikes present in the game wipes your character forcing you to start all over again.

Like all other games on the platform its fun for a half-hour laugh but there's no real merit to the game. Unfortunately I believe it's one of the only turn based games on the platform that is (somewhat) finished, but I could be wrong about that.
