Roblox Community General Thread

It’s really worrying how EPI keeps popping up. I haven’t heard about that until the Goonclown, but now it keeps being exposed all over the place.
EPI has been around on the internet for decade though it was sporadic in the past, but I am so extremely disturbed on how horrendously common it is as of recently.

The media would be going crazy if there was a movement to "radicalize children by introducing them to far right ideals."
That shit would be taken down overnight. Just have a group dedicated to two genders, that's extreme enough for them.
Some media outlets are already pushing that.

While ISIS groups are definitely more rare the platform has for the last decade had a series of different war groups centered around WW2 that either aim to be fictional or real nations based off of 1930s Germany that typically fight some Roblox version of the USA. These World War 2 groups, especially the ones based off of Axis nations are typically deleted then pop back up with different names and sometimes different leadership. The people who are involved in this are either people who like the German soldier aesthetic of the era and think they look nice, virtual reenactors, edgy, LARPers, or true Neo-Nazis. There are also Soviet Union groups on the site but the Third Reich ones are more infamous.

A variety of videos on what to expect from the different "camps" in this particular subsection of the site.

This Roblox Group Was a Complete Disaster:

The Roblox Nazi Experience:

The media could really hammer Roblox on it if their presence became more prominent and public but the truth of the matter is the moderation does more to crack down on these war groups then they do on predators.

What’s the earliest use of the acronym you know of?
The concept is not new at all, it’s predator 101 to give kids porn, but the term seems to be pretty recently spawned from what I could find.

Back in my day we had kids games that had these 'speedchat' thingies-- all you could do was say prewritten sentences. You had to purchase new sentences with jellybeans.
Roblox *used* to have this, note it's likely been nearly a decade since it's been removed, around the same time they killed off guest users as a feature. And minus the 'pay x tokens to get more' approach. Below 13 users by default, unless given parental permission, were only able to speak in a pick phrase from menu format, and I don't believe were allowed to see what regular users were typing. Essentially, Roblox was an entirely different type of platform back in the day and has ballooned into this horrendously overbloated proto-social media that links to all of the modern internet cancers, too. Another note, it's been around in some form since 2005 - back then I think it was invite only, but quickly became open sometime in 06. It was around at the peak of shit like neopets and club penguin, it's relatively ancient compared to a lot of the games that are currently 'in'.

Edit: I included a screenshot with this included in an earlier post today, but it was grabbed from someone's shitty youtube short. This is a more clear example of how it operated.

While you could select down to a topic like is shown at the end of the list, it was so rudimentary you could actually select any of the 'topic' headers as speech. As in you could just say 'questions' or 'game' because they'd also made most of the others some form of response.

I hate that kids today grow up with this slop instead of the based flash games from the days of yore.
I mean I saw some shit I definitely shouldn't have at too young an age on Newgrounds back in the day but frankly that was all on me.
There was literally no way to be groomed in ToonTown Online.
Or Club Penguin I believe. I do recall someone claiming to be a girl asking me my age on MapleStory when I was 12 though. Luckily I was raised to be paranoid enough to fuck right off from that.

Roblox came into the existence during the Golden Age of the social MMO. It originally competed with the likes of Club Penguin, Toontown Online, Wizard 101 and Blockland and had the gimmick of letting users create their own games which was extremely novel and fresh in that era. As time has gone on and its old rivals have bitten the dust or declined in relevance while it continued to grow and grab a significant portion of the market share, the leadership probably think the sky is the limit at this point and believe they can make the platform become some strange version of Second Life while keeping their old player base.

No one was safe on Maple Story.

Another thing to add about how people could communicate on early Roblox, they essentially built an in-site email-lite system through which players could DM each other. I think this was also only available if you were an above 13 user, but this was another thing that opened up all sorts of trouble, not that I'm for sure it ever was that big of a deal, not nearly as much as the later chat system. I think it still exists in some form on the modern platform but by now it's practically vestigial with how much spam likely fills it in, plus being made redundant by the said chat and of course by that dragon Discord. Not to even mention the infamous Roblox Forums.

While I've taken issue with some of Ruben's actions post lawsuit, I have to give him credit for being the only big name actually going after these types of scum. The fact Ruben actually focuses on these horrific Fetish groups and not Le Evil Roblox Neo Nazis or whatever is a nice break from the usual "Evil Group in X Game" genre of videos.

I just have a hard time believing anyone working Roblox itself is completely ignorant to problems like these, I think it just knows it's one of the most successful kids' mmos still around and that clueless parents will still pay for Robux for their kids, so it doesn't care for doing anymore than the absolute bare minimum to moderate the site and even then, that's only when the spotlight is shined on them to do so before they can return to business as usual.
I work as a data analyst and software developer and in my spare time I made a Discord bot that does a lot of moderation-related stuff. One of the things it does is apply scoring with AI to mark texts for how inappropriate they are in a number of different categories, one of which (part of the OpenAI moderation toolkit) is content that talks sexually about minors. My bot is in a few thousand servers now and I collect all the messages from all of them and from this I feel I've learned two main things:
1. The number of pedophiles on the internet is fucking staggering. Anyone on KiwiFarms knows there's a lot of freaks online, but it's so much worse than I thought when I started building this.
2. The infrastructure to apply this kind of moderation is way cheaper than you think, way more effective than traditional techniques like exact match word blacklists, and can be implemented in a couple lines of code. It's really simple. I can't stress enough how simple it is to implement. It's so simple that if you don't know anything about programming at all, you could throw it together in Python in 20 minutes of reading documentation.
This experience has been really blackpilling for me about the nature of the internet. Maybe I'm naive and should've realized earlier how bad it is out there, but it's shocking how much these companies do not fucking care. They know there are kids on their platform, they know there are groomers on their platform, they know they could build tools to at least kick them off of their own platforms, but they don't do it. The tools exist to solve this but the lack of interest is at multiple levels; the companies don't want to say "oopsies, our platform is full of pedophiles, but now we're taking care of it." You can report these people to the government, but there's not really any material incentive for them to care in the way that tax fraud or drug cases have, and so the resources allocated to them are pretty minimal. You can report it to whoever moderates things on a local level to at least get these freaks banned from whatever particular place they're trying to chat up kids in, but more often than not, the moderators of those spaces are pedo freaks too.
I don't wanna derail the thread too much with this. Maybe sometime I'll make a whole thread about what I've learned from running this tool. Anyway, it's just insane to me how little everyone seems to give a fuck about pedophiles operating more or less out in the open. Everyone is really comfortable thinking that somebody else will handle it, but the end result is that it just festers indefinitely. I don't know what the solution is but things are looking pretty grim for today's kids.

And that's the issue. The internet I grew up with was fine for the most part. Today's internet is unrecognizable because of the pedos that have gotten into seats of power. We need a clean sweep of the internet. Find these fuckers before they keep spreading
What this guy said. Kids have been finding things they're not supposed to online since the internet was invented, the problem is that the pedos who used to be kept under at least partial control by law enforcement or the threat of law enforcement have attained either powerful positions, placing themselves above the effective reach of the police, or have found ways to effectively conceal their activities from those who would stop them from victimizing children.

That's the real rub, the pedophiles have adapted. Many of the stupid ones got weeded out long ago. The smart ones didn't. They kept up with the tech, hid their dirty secrets, and are probably faceless names in companies you don't even know exist but that make them plenty of money to live comfortably and stay ahead of the cops. If anything effective is to be done, it is to catch them in the act and find out as much as you can.

Be fucking real. The internet we grew up with was NOT fine. There were just as many pedophiles in IRC and web chatrooms as there are in Discord. There was just as much deviancy out there on Usenet. Either you got lucky and didn't encounter it or you're damaged and simply aren't acknowledging it or can't recognize it. I don't think anyone posting in a place like this can claim the internet had a strictly or even mostly benign effect on their lives. If not for the internet I wouldn't know that furries exist. I would never have met a Gorean. I wouldn't know that people get off to wearing diapers.

My mother was, for many years, a non-internet user. She didn't learn that some guys were attracted to feet until her 60s. Meanwhile I saw my first barfcock at the age of 11. Can't put those genies back in the bottle.

I mean I saw some shit I definitely shouldn't have at too young an age on Newgrounds back in the day but frankly that was all on me.
I dislike this line of reasoning. You were a child, children are not fully mentally developed and do not have full culpability for their actions morally or legally. We were all failed by someone to some degree. I don't resent my parents or society over it, what I do resent is the fact that we have an entire generation that has grown up with unrestricted internet access, we have seen the results, nobody is happy with it but society continues to do exactly nothing about it.

What needs to be done is that children need to be kicked out of all multiplayer games where they can potentially get targeted by perverts
they're children they should not be fucking with the computer for hours at a time anyway.
Raising children should be left to the parents, not the gaming companies, governments, schools, etc. When you leave it up to the latter, you end up with infiltrated institutions hiding a child's "trans identity" from the parent.

A good solution is regular public executions of pedophiles. The best solution is to have a culture that parents its kids properly.

Of course that's out of reach of America and Europe.
