Anyone who thinks that the Satanic Panic was worse is a mongoloid.

It was, at least currently. The Wokescolds aren't burning books and putting out sermons to parents to make sure and confiscate little Johnny's monster manual yet. You didn't risk being called a wierdo, you got risked being called a Satan worshipper and faced actual disciplinary action if you were a minor.

Also, the same people that propagated the Satanic Panic didn't go away. If anything, they got richer and thanks to the internet have an even wider audience.

Will they get to that point? Wouldn't shock me, but they haven't.

I don't know how familiar you are with it, but basically what kicked off the satanic panic was a class of young children who told their parents that they were brought into tunnels under the school and made to do stuff like sacrifice animals. This was assumed to be children lying at the time, and I can see why.

That had nothing to do with D&D though.

I thought it was kicked off by the mother of the mentally ill Mazes and Monsters dude who committed suicide in a college campus steam tunnel (which is where the whole 'satanic rituals in underground tunnels legend' came from).

Dallas Egbert the Second not only didn't commit suicide in the steam tunnels, he had long stopped playing D&D by the time he committed suicide by shotgun much later on. Also, the tabloid types usually failed to mention that he had a history of untreated mental illness, was basically a young teenager in a college setting, and not only was involved in making meth but also took it.

The PI who his mother hired, William Dear, said emphatically that D&D had nothing to do with the kid's death or problems.

Oh? And the pressure on websites to delete the files of those older editions have no parallels to that? The attempt to subvert years worth of roleplaying lore? Sure, we can do that NOW but the attempt to remove the older editions is happening. They won't get greybeards like you and me, but what of the newfags who won't be permitted to access unless there's a nearby greybeard to take them under their wing. It's quiet, my dude. The Satanic Panic was loud, but that doesn't make a silent infiltration any better. And it's far more effective.

Starting to wish I had receipts now. AFAIK a few retards mentioned wanting to do it and I don't know for sure if anything folded. I won't ask you to "JUST TRUST ME, THE POD PEOPLE ARE HEEEEERE!" but I wouldn't be surprise if it becomes a real thing in a few years and only "Nazi chuds" play 3.5.

And you damn right they did. My brother lost his first copies of the Player's Guide, Dungeonmaster's Guide, Dieties and Demigods (one of the rare ones with Elric and Cthulhu), Tomb of Horrors, Eye of the Serpent, and the Slave Pits modules to a nice big palette fire.

William Dear gets a bad rap from us. Sure he put the police onto the trail of RPGs by initially saying that the key to understanding what happened to Egbert was to be found on understanding D&D. But after he’d recovered Egbert, he did say that the game had nothing to do with it and he even made regular visits to him to try and mentor Dallas. After doing what he was hired to do, he made a good faith effort to save the kid’s life after everyone else had moved on. I gotta say that I respect the guy.

And adding new sections. There are at least 2 reprints of the 5e core book, and the 2nd edition says some Elven women have penises. Specifically it says Elves have a third gender of "hermaphrodites."

And I just checked my PDF. Thankfully, mine has the first image excerpt with no mention of hermaphrodites (what the fuck). But still, fuck me, I definitely don't remember seeing THAT in BECMI or AD&D2E. Even 3E didn't have this shit.
