RTS (Real-time Strategy) General - Gookclick anon can't find us here.

You guys need to play World in Conflict, it has a great narrative.
Crazy how C&C series perfected the simple RTS game, killed itself, and nobody since has been able to replicate it since.
I remember me playing it
I don't remember anything about it besides it being the more serious clone of red alert.

I FUCKING LOVE SUPREME COMMANDER

STRATEGIC LAUNCH DETECTED
download.webp

this has the appearence of one of the wargame series games or combat mission

hope the reliable lads at Slitherine do a good spin on it

In the meanwhile I'm going to give the 'not command and conquer' command and conquer a go

Anyone here tried Act of Aggression? I found the campaign really enjoyable and playing as Cartel feels great.
A lot of people compare it to World in Conflict. If you ever played that.

Tempest Rising is out of EA
haven't had a chance to check it out but all of the reviews seem to be positive
Its... interesting. Recently did the GDI GDF campaign, and the doctrines and armory upgrades put an interesting twist on campaign strategies (lasers for drones, laser range, and laser marking upgrade is a hilarious combo, especially since infantry can't fire out of transports but the drones fly outside them). Felt almost like a "C&C3 at home", except the various aura buffs the GDF feel more like Generals. I'm hoping the developers let people start modding it, since its got a ton of potential.

I think Dune: Spice Wars can be pretty fun in multiplayer. It may not hold a candle to the originals, but it's probably the best one could hope for in modern gaming. Still not sure if the Vernius dlc is worth a grab though. EMP's basically make their army useless, and they nerfed the one thing they were good at, assassinations, into the dirt,

"Base-building RTS Tempest Rising released on Steam yesterday, a full week before it was supposed to, and the publisher doesn't see a good way out of it, so the game just has a new release date now: April 17 instead of April 24." - Pcgamer

Whoops guess he doesnt have an option but to roll with it.

It's actually pretty good, i like the little "mirrorings" of CnC. On a basic level, the game appears to be functional and doesn't have any issues running. So that's at a base 5/10 for me. I'm enjoying the gameplay and really like the doctrine/upgrade system. I'm at least 5 hours into both campaigns and am enjoying it, so as long as it stays its course i think it'll be a solid 8/10

if you played the demo, has the game improved? I was considering buying it but the reviews kinda confirmed some of my worries.
I was really disappointed when I played the demo. Hated how cramped the maps were, I like the open style of generals better.

I can't remember if i did play the demo, but at least of the first few maps they do seem a little "cramped" but i haven't gone much farther than 3 missions for both factions, will update as i go through.

Where do I start as a complete noob to this genre? I've got zero interest in PvP and just want a good single player campaign. My gut instinct is to try the first Starcraft, but if that's a terrible idea, please let me know. Any advice is appreciated.

I think Age of Mythology Retold or warcraft 3 might be a good first rts.
Starcraft 1 pathfinding is ass and i wouldnt recommend it if you dont want to throw your self in a deep end of frustration and fighting controls.
Red alert 2 or Generals is always an option.
Tiberium series i think need to be started from the beginning to undertand all of the context but thats again an old and unresposive game.
