I doubt it honestly, RWBY is their largest show and they don't really have any other show that brings in the publicity and money that RWBY does. They'll squeeze every last penny out of the series and its fans until not one remains and then its the end game (if Rooster Teeth isn't already in it). Shitty animations of podcast stories and Achievement Hunter won't cut it for a company the size of Rooster Teeth, even after all their layoffs in previous years.

The Panel didn't have much, mostly repeated questions and uncreative answers. Few things of interest though:

The DnD show will be containing canon information

RT are getting Wayforward to develop a new RWBY game and Arc System Works to distribute it.

Watts does not have a semblance, because he didn't see any use in trying to develop one.

Ironwood has a semblance... His semblance is that he's stubborn. His super power is having a personality trait.

Wait...you can just develop a semblance??? I know they have pretty much given up on trying to build a consistent power system (It was genetic, now its not), but why the fuck doesn't everyone develop a semblance if they can!?!??!

You live in a world where people are routinely killed by shadow monsters and it seems like a pretty useful skill in general when dealing with people as well. This show is so fucking dumb.

What happens when you go from “anime high school and kicking monster ass” to “world spanning epic” in one volume with the only real through line is “things go on in the background, and the main characters stumble on/investigate” (seriously, how many times have you seen that setup at something aimed at...whatever age group RWBY is meant to be targeted towards?)

there you are playing the PvP in your world war two shooter developing your semblance and all of the sudden you're a Nazi you didn't ask for this you didn't choose this yet there it is and it's treated no differently than playing a British soldier getting a useful semblance. this is bad on so many levels no one should ever have a random chance of fighting for the Nazis of developing a semblance
 
The fact that RWBY's power system is at this point no more than fucking Calvinball with inconsistencies, doesn't surprise me at all.

Aura and Semblance have been poorly explained ever since, with this only making the latter seem even more messy compared to Basic Bitch Shonens where they at least can be consistent;while RWBY just tacks on more shit that doesn't add anything new or logical.

Maidens are no different from a Huntsman with a Semblance, despite this whole spiel of them being forces so much above but still beneath Oz, Salem, and the Gods but it's poorly conveyed to the point where you ask why does anyone want to be one? Magic is useless.

Christ, this show has worse focus than a kid afflicted with ADD hopped up on five bowls of sugary cereal drenched in pop.

Let's see what we got:
  • Aura which went from a handwave of fatal blows to a health bar, with the only way to have people care is having Auras break at the exact same time
  • Semblances be some type pf special move in either an RPG or a fighting game with how little they're used, with a relationship to Aura that's confusing at best.
  • Maidens that just rip off A:TLA by having Maidens use all the elements with no limits. And there are four of them.
  • All the group fights devolve into either 1v1s or end up having the structure of a turn based RPG.
It's funny. You'd think Monty Oum, a guy who oozed rule of cool and made his name in over the top fights, would actually put a lot of thought into applying rules and structure to the powers in his own show, especially since he had two people working with them with the express agreement that they would focus on the story and characters while he worked on the action and the eye candy.

I don't wanna sound boasty or smug here, but I'll be honest with y'all, I can create (& sometimes have created) a much better or at the very least, a much more cohesive, understandable system of power levels (I have a DB Fanfic writing since a decade ago) & elemental magic system from my at least a decade old gameplay of browser game Doodle Devil on Kongregate.

And yet, that'll be much better made than whatever the fuck RWBY has made for itself.

Oh my bad; I thought Watt's ability to manipulate electronics was his semblance, not just a feat of his technical genius. Not to say of course that I doubt he is some kind of genius. I guess my idea of a character that gets by on their semblance alone rather than their semblance + weapon and fighting style is just not in the cards yet for this show.

Side note: Oscar mentions he doesn't even have a Semblance yet. Now I didn't watch all of World of Remnant, but does everyone get a Semblance or just a select few who are born with it/train to develop it? I don't remember Ozpin's Semblance (if he had one) but wouldn't it be the same as Ozpin's? I wish there could be a character on the team that doesn't have or doesn't need a Semblance to get by, but that's just not possible anymore given the powerlevels we're dealing with here.

It really does feel like they're just making this shit up as they go along. I'll remind you of everything that has been mentioned about aura and semblance in this show up to this point:

  • Aura and Semblance derive only from living beings, which is why Grimm don't have it. Unless you're a robot, in which case aura can be physically put into you, somehow?
  • You develop your Semblance through rigorous training, much like you would improve your physical health to improve your stamina and muscles. Unless you have silver eyes or are a Maiden, in which case you get a free extra power on top of having your semblance.
  • In the case of Mercury Black, your Semblance can be stolen from you and never able to be recovered, even though you still have Aura.
  • Aura protects you from fatal blows (except Tock, who was decapitated) or getting your limbs cut off (like Yang).
  • Dust is a special mineral that can be used (like gunpowder?) to do extraordinary things like shoot fire, ice, shadow, and light (lmao). If you're a Maiden you can do this without exerting yourself.
  • As far as we've seen so far Semblances do not include being able to use Maiden-like powers, though the range of what Semblances are capable of runs the gauntlet of "slowing down time, pocket dimensions and cones of silence" to "bad luck and being stubborn".
  • If you're a Fauness, depending on the species of animal, you can also get cool powers at the detriment of everyone being racist towards you for no specific reason.
  • Turning into a bird is a power that Ozpin can bestow on you, and is for some reason totally unbelievable to most people in Remnant.
I swear, this story has the depth of writing on the levels of Homestuck in that the more I find out about it, the less I understand. Can't wait to find out in this next season why Salem wanted Ruby brought to her alive, even though she explicitly killed all silver-eyed girls in Remnant who would threaten her plans.
