They're very proud of drawing a long woman with ribs

I don't think Salem is awful, just not anything special. Jaune is also fine. Vernal's design is actually good, just not how she was implemented. Soap opera sadness-bait isn't a good look imo.
Right. If you had to choose one character designer besides Mupa or Monarch, who would you prefer?

Me personally ... I know Sun Plank the most, and while the designs focus on simplicity and look like waterbrush strokes, at least there is a clear and concise element. And even if the characters are in the Mistral Arc, not every single character is designed to be like five centuries behind modern day times, in a near-futuristic show.

Dude this cartoon is literally everything annoying, frustrating, draining, about anime in general, tired tropes and all. I can see preteens getting into it but anyone over 19 enjoying this shit has to have some form of mental deficiency.

Yeah, I don't enjoy it at face value. I mostly want to see what happens next, what the fight scenes and characters are going to look like, and how the cast are going to fuck up the rules of basic storytelling at this point.

If it was told competently, mark my words, it would've inspired a new genre other than isekai, and it would've actually been a lot more interesting.

Apparently something new has been announced. Let me warm up Google Translate:
"Team RWBY Project started !! In 2013, the WEB animation series "RWBY" produced by Rooster Teeth Productions in the United States A new project that inherits that feeling is released with a newly drawn visual Follow-up news will be released on this account at any time !!"

Is it a remake? A reboot? A complete do-over? Whatever, I guess Warner Bros has some money to throw around.

It's most definitely a side story/spinoff.

Finally completed. Decided to do something different and placed the art before the commentary because going through all this is like climbing a mountain. Especially since this time there aren't timestamps in the description.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present art.

Shama Abdelfattah/@Sh0_moo
-Sh0 only had episode 16
BF2F09F5-2E89-45A3-8AD7-A576F8CC5FCD.jpeg

-Sh0 tends to do storyboards before the drawing. Sketches, lineart, shading, etc. But this part gave what she calls "the worst experience."
-Each section was done three times over due to files being corrupted.
5241AC9B-FB1A-4E0E-BBA0-630D11813085.jpeg
01255B78-0EF6-4D12-AABE-FF49A4C16830.jpeg

-This was more detailed.
-Blender is used for the environment, but detail and background was lost as the files kept getting corrupted.
-While working on FRWBY V5, one of the SH was living in Japan, and sent 100 pictures of an onsen near where she lived for refrence. Sh0 calles this "super helpful".
-Celtic loves how "warm" everyone feels. Another artist calls it "vibrant".
-Fixing RWBY is all volunteer work.

Kitsune/@KitsuneRyuNeko

2D8B994A-2076-462B-AC40-3E861CD08250.jpeg

-The tree in the background is supposed to be a cherry tree. The purple was thanks to a miscommunication. Kitsune wanted to fix it, but there wasn't time. Celtic takes responsibility for this mistake.
-Going to a five person art with detailed background was "daunting".
-The lineart was the thinnest Kitsune ever worked with.
-This was the first art Kitsune did for Fixing RWBY.
-Kitsune and Celtic went back and forth a lot for Vernal's pose. Early on, there wasn't the right amount of "tsun" they were looking for and didn't look "tsundere" that they were looking for (Celtic's words).
-Kitsune wanted to stop at the lineart. Vernal has the prettiest eyes but the decision was made to have Vernal facing away from the viewer, and Kitsune says that Vernal has the best character design.
-Kitsune says this took so long that there's no timeframe for how long this took.
-Kitsune mentions not being able to do perspective.
2ABE2CF0-7124-43EB-BA48-DB77E9B83045.jpeg

-The interior of the airship was so barren, Kitsune didn't know what to do. Just two openings on each side.
-Another SH suggested putting in a fire extenguisher.
-This was the easier of the two artworks Kitsune did, and Kitsune mentions getting help for perspective.
-Kitsune tried really hard for the lighting, and tried to give both Blake and Yang a morning light, and to give each of them a color through the shading. Purple in the black for Blake, and gold for Yang.
-Kitsune wanted this to be "the bees' moment".

Rudolf/The Reapers Scypher

1EBDDEB9-041B-46BC-88C4-0E1BF13E2AAD.jpeg

-Roman and the Goliath are inked in Rudolf's sketchbook, and the image had to be scanned in twice due to said book not being in a 16:9 aspect ratio, and then matched in Clip Studio Paint.
-Process, was to ink an illustration in a sketchbook, and color in CS Paint. This was done with this picture as a way to push the process to its fullest capacity.
-This was the easiest piece for Rudolf to do. He doesn't remember when he picked a Goaliath to do the framing.
-Each bump on the skin of the Goliath was done with a micron pen and then enhanced in CS Paint.
-The tusks are tusks from an actual elephant photobashed on.
-The smoke effect was a way to hide mistakes that were made. There are two different sources of lighting for him and his hair is digital.
-The hat on the cane was a request by Celtic. Celtic thought it'd be tragic if he and Neo had landed near the same spot in V3 but couldn't be able to find each other.
5C064C09-701B-4A0B-8F0C-8995579BE4A4.jpeg

-Celtic calls this his favorite of Rudolf's work this volume. Rudolf calls this his favorite work done for Fixing RWBY in general.
-Celtic says the character is just "Malachite".
-Rudolf wanted to try a style that he wanted to do for his own work (black and white with selective coloring).
-The first two panels are in one page
-the rightmost panel took four hours to sketch.
-The most fun part was the graffitti and making the way look as "grungy" and "abused" as possible.
-The Schnee Dust Company Logo and the White Fang logo are on the walls.
-The second panel is flipped.
-Rudolf was excited to be assigned the reveal of Malachite, and he wanted to make it as "creepy" and "intimidating" as possible. He wanted to make her look like a "deranged sociopath"/"malicious poltergeist"/"ghost".
-Mupa came up with the scenario for Malachite's reveal.
-The sun was to justify why Malachite's face is darkened, and any religious refrences were unintentional.
-The eyes at the top of the arch was unintentional, and Rudolf added them because it looks cool. Celtic calls it a Great Gatsby refrence.
-Rudolf is proud of the concrete, with cracks photobashed and highlighted in.
-Malachite's pendant in the right most panel photobashed.
-Rudolf says that this piece is what his art for V6 will look like.
2922B730-B234-4EEF-A2B0-7328C2E92D11.jpeg

Rudolf has a speed paint video of this.
-This piece was a last minute request from Celtic. He needed the landscape. Rudolf agreed to make it three weeks after finishing Malachite.
-Celtic sent pictures of Neo for Rudolf to agree to do the pic. (Not sure if joking or not).
-Every piece of the illustration is from a different page of Rudolf's sketchbook.
-The furthest right and left of the railings are photobashed and blended in, and was done with Rudolf's phone's camera due to his scanner broke down.
-The roof had to be done twice due to messing up perspective. Only half was done due to a time crunch. The same was done with the buildings.
-Rudolf says if given more time, things could turn out better, but he feels he did the best he could with what he was given and the time allotted.
-The background is photobashed, at least the mountains and ground. Rudolf did the sky from scratch and it took four hours.
-Floof did the cloud effect.
-Rudolf's favorite part is the foreground with Ruby and Roman.
-Rudolf addresses accusations of "crunch" and " being exploited due to not being paid". He says everyone is in the know about production and what the volume is going to be like and when the script is done. The reason for this being crunch was because he didn't know he was going to do it until Celtic convinced him becauase he was lazy and procrasionarted.
He missed the deadline by a day. He doesn't regret making it.
-Rudolf says this contrasts Butterfly's take where the camera faces the characters, and this is why the lanterns were added: because he was working around what Butterfly did.

Valion/@VandalLegion
-Valion worked on episodes 11 and 20.
3A2AC38D-2D6D-4343-AAA8-9A7B6EA0F0A8.jpeg
-This is the fourth piece Valion did.
-Celtic associates this type of motion with American comics, namely early DC.
C55184A3-1E56-4BEE-9B58-A7865E427296.jpeg

-This was the first piece done.
-Celtic says he's happy that Valion did this piece first.
-The consensus is that this piece tells a story with a single image.

7B770CA1-91D6-46A9-A4F5-F255FC542192.jpeg

-Valion's inspiration came from shonen manga. Persona 5 is also brought up a few times.
8B6DC153-AC36-4D53-9E32-5886C763A1D5.jpeg

-Celtic loves the expressions in this shot.
-Celtic was thinking that there would be a waterfall in this shot.
-Celtic says he should have had Yang yelling at Neo here.
BE00781C-0BEA-40E4-A64C-7989392C9222.jpeg

-Celtic calls this his favorite Valion picture of the volume.
-Celtic says it drove home his idea of "Yang hallucinating" and what it would feel like.
-Valion used the red color from the Adam scenes, which is contrasted with the ground so she knows he's hallucinating.
-One of the SH says there's a "dream like, surreal" quality to it.

FD89E6CF-BB06-4117-80C6-EC09A2657257.jpeg

-This is a sequence of images. Celtic's favorite detail was Neo taking off her glove to snap her fingers.
-Valion used his own fingers as a refrence for Neo snapping.
8393B70B-3D53-4E19-91D4-6B636A6D1ACA.jpeg

-Raven was in the background in the first draft, but Celtic said to take her out.
-Valion thought there were many sakura trees in this place, but in reality there was only one big tree.
C4BFE8E8-3D98-453E-9604-810AF4ECACC3.jpeg

-When asked about the aura effect and how aura is portrayed, Celtic lets artists experiment.
-Celtic loves the TV Topes page for Fixing RWBY

Chloe/@cho_cho201 on Instagram

17A3AB8A-078D-403D-9DDB-40C5FE775955.jpeg

-Chloe doesn't like perspective, but she wanted to force herself to make scenes that had perspective.
-A lot of pieces were pushed to the last minute.
-This piece took the longest. out of all the ones Chloe did.
-This is Chloe's least favorite piece.
ACDB8ACB-DB15-4BBE-BE84-9B5CDE98D77B.jpeg

-Chloe was confused by the script layout, so she wasn't assigned this scene.
-Chloe enjoyed this quite a lot.
4E2F370A-4D14-4F43-86EC-6E3F789B84D7.jpeg

-This is Chloe's favorite piece.
-Chloe was surprised by how tall Vernal was.
-Chloe always forgot the flowers in Vernal's hair.
-Celtic says the idea of Raven knocking someone out for singing badly is "great".
0E1B3FD0-6DE3-4373-8CBA-F3030024A388.jpeg

3650EE75-5A12-446B-B40D-0BE0286B36E3.jpeg

-When Celtic described the scene, he imagined that there'd only be close-ups so cleavage would be cropped out
-Celtic had a chaste view of the onsen scene, and every artist was going "What if Yang's boobs?" .
-There's a lot of guhing over Yang, and I'm now wishing that there was someone to edit this shit before it goes onto YouTube.

Tyyne/@TynneTime

A66C7F3A-8B90-4541-A4BD-976E8E544EC5.jpeg

-This was the first piece done.
-Tynne's not confient in her coloring abilities, but she feels this came out okay.
8A7EBA01-ACF6-4103-8F65-04BA8D7DED65.jpeg

-Tynne drew the backgorund, then the bike, then the girls.
-Tynne says a lot of the time she likes the backgrounds, but doesn't like how the characters keep people from seeing them.
2C19EA1D-5151-42A5-9246-82BDEBB896B5.jpeg

-The split screen was done to hide how Weiss, Yang, and Neo were all able to fit on the bike.
-Tynne mentions not forgetting Weiss's scar.
-The SH mentions the name "Ice Cream Sandwich" for the ship of Weiss/Yang/Neo.
-The tree and the leaves was done by a brush.
7989A069-C786-4762-AD1B-0803EE17D5C7.jpeg

-Tynne colored this piece.
-Tynne also added the rubber duck.
5FF660CC-9B30-435D-9589-2E2D4EDFFF5C.jpeg
D553B3A2-711A-4448-86EB-9EA8D73F8129.jpeg

-Tynne was relutant to draw this scene due to Jaune being naked (even if it's Neo in disguise).
-Scars were forgotten.
-There was a different face for Neo as Jaune, but Tynne read the script wring, and Neo is being scolded.
7EBFF5AD-E96A-4E91-9774-A3E1F2454F19.jpeg

-This picture was all digital.
-Tynne took a lot of time to write the kanji, including getting the right brushstrokes.

0C037D5E-587E-4B39-AF10-3A12B21A14B3.jpeg

-Celtic wanted to challenge Tynne with this scene because Tynne doesn't draw action much.
98972CA7-A983-4330-866B-840EA2ABB9A8.jpeg

-Celtic calls Vernal in this shot "weirdly cute."
8C3351CB-28D7-4E59-B234-327105165421.jpeg

-Tynne had help with the backgrounds.
-Tynne did all the paintings in the background.
-Tynne called the lighting on Blake " a lot of fun".
02481359-8480-41C5-A092-97DE0F956AC3.jpeg

-Celtic says he feels this image sometimes.
-Tynne looked at refrences for the inside of the vault.
2757D533-E491-48BA-9D74-F5E5417C1FEE.jpeg

-Tynne goes "symbolic" for forgetting the flowers in Vernal's hair.
-Tynne really likes the leaf brush.

34886021-05CB-4B23-B55C-6A0EF487E5F3.jpeg

-A lot of scenes were sold to Celtic by artist doodles.

3C250FFE-887E-47F5-A3C7-946096FB4A9E.jpeg

-Shiloh is supposed to be walking away in this scene, and regretting what he said.
79485AA6-B716-448C-9C9C-A5F5D4CBE883.jpeg

-This was the first time Sun used a posing software.
63F6C7D4-793B-42E2-B363-A70888C1A68C.jpeg

-The turkey is the most inconsistent part of the scene.
2099C281-AD9C-4AEE-BDA7-6960F12F233F.jpeg

-Sun just placed Vernal there without thinking or knowing about the placement much.
E2570EE0-BDB6-41B3-A657-853A85973663.jpeg
BBA1ADE1-0BA3-4B38-9985-2270CA895B3A.jpeg

-Sun was told to do "multiple locations, one setting" .
94B7FE8C-62F6-4C48-BBBD-5BB0E989A009.jpeg

-Sun wanted to improve Qrow's pose to give the idea that Qrow isn't to be disturbed.
-This was the last piece of the sequence done.
09500F1D-F41E-4F85-BB47-B76F53B2E821.jpeg

-This was the first picture of the scene that Sun did.
-The sign on the back says "No Pets. No Animals."
BADECA46-5F70-4F3A-8998-9FF720E0DD30.jpeg

-Nora's face was a way to add exxaggeration.
Sun tried to make everything cohesive in this sequence.
657D4EFF-366F-4A32-B9FE-B6F782E6DB59.jpeg

-JNR is playing a Magic The Gathering type game.
-The red card is art from Sun's cousin's wedding.
-The blue card is from Fate. Sun is a Fate: Grand Order fan.
-The orange is a commission of Genshin Impact characters doing JoJo poses.
8C4A4B23-5637-457E-8C7F-509E9ABAAFB9.jpeg

-This is a Greek taverna, done as a way to do something different from the other isekayas/Japanese bars
-In the upper right, there's a picture of Phyrra eating a gyro. When asked whether it's a result of completing an eating challenge or a famous person visiting, Sun's reply is, "maybe it's both". Celtic mentions he likes the idea of Phyrra having the biggest stomach of Team JNPR.
-The chalkboard is a Rooster Teeth joke. Sun says "if you know your offensive Greek hand gestures", Qrow is doing that to the chalkboard and the rooster on the board. The hand being cut off is so it's subtle.
-Qrow is walking with Ren thinking he's a hot girl. Nora's crying about gyros. And maybe Ren.
-The blue cat is a Fate: Grand Order character.
-Different artists and Celtic contributed the labels on the wine glasses.
The Crimson Claw is Celtic's ideas, which he says is White Fang special forces.
-Jaune's scroll is supposed to be akin to the first iPhone.
F9C612AA-C81A-4DA1-8B47-255B77A43FA5.jpeg

-The duck and fog is done to censor and keep Celtic's video from getting demonitized. Sun suggested the duck, and the scene was originally drawn without it.

35B7BAA6-0582-4293-A25E-6788471CBE61.jpeg

-Sun wanted to make this more serious, but says it's fine to be more comedic, and ease into the looseness.
-The fire in the background is from Clip Studio Paint.
EA9564A4-D825-4001-998C-3A6831F34386.jpeg

-When this scene was written, Nora was going to be floating in an alligator float, where the head is the only thing exposed to the surface. But Sun thought Celtic said "alligator floatie", Celtic doesn't blame Sun for the mixup, and that he finds it hilatious and adorable, saying it reminds him of a floatie he had when he was a kid.
FF8EBFB2-4309-4A5F-920C-00AC61AB556F.jpeg

-There's discussion of Yang looking like the girl from "The Ring". This could have easily been put behind a Patreon wall.
-According to Sun, the duck landed on the rock after Nora jumped in.
C738D017-4BD3-44A0-ACFA-B413890478D3.jpeg

-According to Celtic, this worked well for the comedy of the scene.
-Sun is called "The Queen of Facial Expressions"

Nol/@NOLNOL1234

2F5705B2-09C7-4B57-9C27-28B5246DBCCC.jpeg

-This was the first time Nol drew a background.
-Nol doesn't like how Raven looks, and says she looks like a gorilla.

F7F57462-34EF-428A-9EF3-5395786810C9.jpeg

-Raven's pointy teeth was because Vernal has little fangs, so it could have been something she inherited from Raven, and to make Raven look menacing.
Celtic mentions Raven seenms bigger than Weiss thanks to the structure.
163B3CD2-3A81-4894-9607-DDE15B077311.jpeg

-Nol mentions growing up a lot in her own way while working on Fixing RWBY.
-All the tents are the same.

40B12F11-2B2B-411C-A1A5-16FDC6A245B9.jpeg

-Nol mentions Raven looking like a gorilla, and having a tall head.
-Nol got a fire brish just for this scene.
9BDF1C97-B72C-4AAD-B8BA-984D355F109F.jpeg

-Nol was excited to draw this scene.
-Nol's first language is Japanese, although her English is good, so there was some miscommunications while drawing this.
-Celtic and Nol mention that Weiss looks good when she's slapped.
4477707B-55BC-416F-B1F3-11F6955FF7E2.jpeg

-Nol likes drawing tears.
-The picture of Shiloh in the back was Tai with more hair added.
CC6E7469-4DE5-4AEA-B60B-D8324A2122FF.jpeg

-Nol forgot to draw Weiss's outfit. Weiss isn't naked, though they joke about it.
-Drawing the grass was a pain to Nol.
-The pattern on Shiloh's boots is an Ainu pattern.
ED5F3177-5A5F-425F-9F9A-D40317E07883.jpeg

-Nol couldn't get the pose right. Nol took a picture of herself in that pose, and she traced her hand. Everyone said Weiss's broad shoulders looked fine, leading to something called "Buff Weiss".
BBD5D8CA-3E55-4F44-BC84-C62206535C2E.jpeg

-Nol wanted to reduce the number of images she wanted to make, and she also got the idea from Rudolf.
03C60014-6379-4B3A-B358-FDE10ACE42D9.jpeg

Nol was inspired by artists in the Sketchy Huntsmen especially Sun Plank in this scene. She loves how it looks.
EBB53B0F-827E-4571-B3C9-F17E515353C0.jpeg

-Nol didn't know how long it took to draw this, and she wanted to do this without copy/paste, but other SH convinced her otherwise.
-Vernal can be seen far in the distance.
ECD2CB5D-0DDF-44F7-9440-9EF9007F64AA.jpeg

-This picture is what got Nol to do episode 9. This was fanart done while the scene was either written or shown using 3D models.
-Nol thinks this is one of the best arts she's done for the volume, and it's the background for her laptop.
-There aren't flowers in Vernal's hair because there are already flowers in the grass.
F5528A75-A824-4BFE-98AE-8784301497F7.jpeg

-Nol feels Weiss's eye with the scar looks too pointy. Celtic says Weiis likes sharp eyes with her makeup that survived the airship crash.
A6562585-3989-4EC0-BC05-CBB153BF91A3.jpeg

-Nol did not like drawing this scene.
-It was the first time Nol drew a character in this pose, the sky from this perspective, and the morning sky. Nol thinks it turned out well.
-If Nol could redo this, she'd have Vernal's knees take up half the screen.
1B4E744F-318D-4A0E-A46C-4C52536BF4A8.jpeg

-Nol did the table for this scene.
-The center pot is the same one Nol has at her house, and that was the reference.
-Nol never drew food before, and she says it looks delicious.
C14A8026-4582-49F6-8E38-D43442D64FB5.jpeg

-Nol wanted to make a wide shot and add perspective. She was inspired the people doing art for Mistral.
-Drawing the manor was hard.
-I'm just now seeing Blake and Sun.
E4773A8E-B75C-4DF8-A00F-96A95EC0CDC9.jpeg

-Ghira was a pain for Nol to draw, and she stuggled for weeks. Nol calls him, Ilia, and Kali "The Trouble Bunch".
-Nol took a refrence picture of herself from Ghira's position.
-Kali was the fastest to draw. Nol is proud of her ears and wishes she didn't make everything so dark.
-Nol was confused about Ghira's design and how it'd reflect light.
-Nol wanted Ilia to wear her prison outfit.
282AECFC-0424-4DEA-BA58-36D20CD85B19.jpeg

-Nol just wanted to get this over with.
88C56526-F1CF-4CFB-90D2-FF081AA501F0.jpeg

-The painting above Blake is Celtic's favorite detail.
-Nothing was traced.
-Nol thinks the woman in the painting was the first Faunus huntress.
-Nol had issues with Sun due to not normally drawing men.
-Nol was told Sun's muscles were off, but things were left as they were due to not knowing how to fix the issue.
F9444A78-740D-4FF9-BD64-A06ACD17C579.jpeg

-This was drawn in ten minutes.
-Celtic mentions that Sun would be a donut mascot later in his life.

-Blake's face doesn't seem right to Nol, and she's not sure how to fix it.

-This was drawn on a plane to the US from Japan.
-Lionhear's shield was able to hide a lot of errors.
-This was the second time Nol drew a RWBY weapon.
-Nol struggled with the posing of Mercury, and thanks the SH for the help in that department.
AFBC0506-3BF1-424C-AF6F-BDF633F84D30.jpeg

-This was drawn on a plane ride.

-A sphere guide was used to make a fish eye effect.
-Quill says the colors enhanced the shot, but he's not sure who colored it.

-Celtic says Quill carried episode 13, along with another artist.
While Quill was working on the art, two ant colonies had to be wiped out from his PC.

-Quill had the idea to make this fancy.
-Quill made the scene an animation after seeing how frames stiched together.
-Celtic wanted to add a crystal shattering effect, but couldn't make it work.

-This sequence was meant to be longer according to Quill.

-Quill says that working on V5 as part of the Sketchy Huntsmen improved his drawing. He calls V5 his "training arc" and mentions he was pretty bad before he started.
15EBB891-CDC6-4FAA-98ED-A289BAE7972D.jpeg

-Quill calls this one of the few shots he really liked.
-Celtic says that Ruby's hands are backwards and she's primarily shooting with her left hand.
-This is part of a sequence/animation that has the shell casing popping out.

-Mupa requested this scene while scenes were being assigned.

-Mupa did multiple shots due to not being able to convey everything in one image.

0E1B8ABB-C8CE-4770-8D8D-F54E17B21005.jpeg

Mupa did some of the poses herself in this picture, Roman's among them.
5046DC03-EFAA-42CE-8DB0-FD57778CAF5A.jpeg

-Mupa redesigned the house where Ruby and company stays.
-This picture is the first floor.
-Mupa also did layouts for the basement and second floor, but they fell to the wayside due to not being as important.
85B9F886-BA6B-4359-BEE1-F38E92CAE15F.jpeg

-Mupa chose to make this scene her main focus.
-Mupa did the pose for Weiss.
-Mupa demanded this scene because she was so proud of Vernal that she didn't want anyone else to do her first appearance.
-Mupa enjoyed painting the background characters.
-There's meant to be a little mist in the background.
-Despite circumstances, Weiss is in a good place right now.

1EC6F088-68AD-4C01-8C17-4183932BAF00.jpeg

-Mupa did a whole bunch of pickups because she wanted to have at least one illustration in each video of the volume, as she had only one picture in V4.
-The environment is based on a real sushi restuarant near where Mupa lives.
-The outfit the donkey Faunus wears is based on an image of a donkey wearing a similar design around its neck.

-Mupa likes how Shiloh looks in his reaction.

83199CF0-3788-439F-84A2-22B1DC9A2F95.jpeg

-This was the second pickup Mupa did, and Mupa specifilcally requested an onsen scene.
-Mupa likes drawing wet hair.
-Celtic like Weiss's hair in this shot.
-Mupa forgot Weiss's scar for weeks before it was painted in.
C87EE6E7-9FCA-42D0-AADA-336ADE88CA4E.jpeg

-Mupa enjoyed giving the men different body types.
-Mupa likes drawing Qrow with his hair slicked back.
-Mupa's design for Ren was done in a way to show he could pass as a man or a woman if you don't look hard enough. The words "bisexual disaster" are mentioned.
-Qrow's eyebrow is because he suspects that Jaune could be Neo in disguise.
E33D1E3A-80A4-4C41-8FA9-0B6B3587511E.jpeg

-This was the first pickup Mupa did, and she insisted on doing it since 1. she was excited to reveal Salem's redesign and 2. she was concerned that depending on who drew this reveal, the design could be distorted and this was Emerald's illusion.
-Depending on how things went, Mupa could not have shown Salem's reference sheet, so Mupa requested this specifically.
-Coffee edited the picture, and the brightness of Ruby was done so she could be the focus on Mupa's direction.
55682D00-B61D-4F17-BA71-C55C9F17C585.jpeg

-Mupa really enjoyed this because it was a night scene with fireflies, so Mupa decided to go crazy.
-Mupa had a hard time finding a good shade of pink for the sakura tree and the flower patch. She hopes it doesn't look too bright or garish. Celtic suggests that it could be more muted.
-Celtic says he's not sure anyone drew the entire island set from a distance.
-Mupa wanted to do more illustrations but she came down with COVID (she calls it "the coof") and stopped to focus on recovery.

-Celtic likes the watercolor feeling of these drawings.
-Celtic wants this duo to work together more often since they work well together.

Here's the link in case I missed anything.
The drawings themselves make for good timestamps.
I don’t really pay attention to Celtic so I didn’t know when this was announced. There's a lot of dead air and screwing around in this shit.

I love that this is happening before we even have a release date for Volume 9. My bets are on a "what-if" thing.

Also, fantastic stuff here from Lead Character Designer Mupa

it's just me or the key art shared has some serious dishwasher1910 vibes? considering he did provide work on genlock, could be that he's involved?

My guess is that it'll be something cool but kind of underwhelming. I'd put more money on it being a manga or art compendium than something substantial like an animated spinoff. I don't know shit, though, so maybe I'm wrong.

@Random Internet Person thank you once again for slogging through that video to provide us with a great summary.

Sh0
1643732851669.png

What on god's green earth is happening here. Her tits doubled in size between drawings. Also, Weiss's hand is just floating over Yang's hair. Weiss also grew a foot taller I guess.
1643733047810.png

Why is she glowing?

Kitsune (A+ weeb name there)
"The tree in the background is supposed to be a cherry tree." Of course it was.
"Kitsune and Celtic went back and forth a lot for Vernal's pose. Early on, there wasn't the right amount of "tsun" they were looking for and didn't look "tsundere" that they were looking for (Celtic's words)." Anime sickness is a terrible disease, please stop describing people like this, it's meant for shitty romance plots. Also, that's a lot of effort considering Vernal ended up posed like this.
1643733406258.png
1643735836163.png

Her hands and forearms are really small and I have no idea what she's holding with no context
. This pose communicates nothing except that Vernal might be a bit chilly.
"Kitsune mentions not being able to do perspective." I noticed.

Rudolf
This guy is actually pretty talented. Wish he was used for more than this pointless, one-minute villain reveal. His sketch work is a lot better than his digital work though.
"Rudolf addresses accusations of "crunch" and " being exploited due to not being paid". He says everyone is in the know about production and what the volume is going to be like and when the script is done. The reason for this being crunch was because he didn't know he was going to do it until Celtic convinced him becauase he was lazy and procrastinated." That's suspicious to say the least. "No, the crunch was MY fault." It doesn't matter if they know they're not getting paid, Celtic is still exploiting them for free labor on a shitty story using his influence. He's giving deadlines and criticism and making money for himself using their work.

Valion
1643735391451.png

"The consensus is that this piece tells a story with a single image."
Of what? A motorcycle chase? That's not a big accomplishment.

1643735679584.png

Neo's hand is absolutely massive and looks like it has a tumor, and that face just screams "I watch too much moe anime."

"When asked about the aura effect and how aura is portrayed, Celtic lets artists experiment." Like any good director, he gives no direction.
"Celtic loves the TV Topes page for Fixing RWBY." He would be the type.

Chloe
1643736733059.png

The more I look at it, the less I understand this design for Mistral. Everything is just way too steep and there's no apparent transit up and down. Don't have the legs of a mountain climber? Too bad.

"Chloe was surprised by how tall Vernal was." Why? Is like 6'6" or something?
"Celtic says the idea of Raven knocking someone out for singing badly is "great"." I mean, it's basic slapstick, but whatever floats your boat.
"When Celtic described the scene, he imagined that there'd only be close-ups so cleavage would be cropped out. Celtic had a chaste view of the onsen scene, and every artist was going "What if Yang's boobs?"" You are the director, Raymond. Direct. If you didn't like it, you should have checked in and made sure you told them these things. You "imagined" it one way but didn't communicate. I doubt this is even true though, I'm sure he let it all happen to get his anime boobies. If he actually cared, he'd have said something.

Tyyne
1643737035543.png

Really gotta take what you can, huh.

"The SH mentions the name "Ice Cream Sandwich" for the ship of Weiss/Yang/Neo." It's always ships with these people. Do they not understand how to write any other kind of relationship besides cliche and trite romance?
1643737117927.png

Oh for fuck's sake.

Sun Plank
Great at rendering. Anatomy?
1643737177914.png

Seeing that she thinks men's shirts fit perfectly around their bulging shoulder muscles, I suppose not.
1643737233863.png

The way she draws comedic faces is rather bizarre since she keeps all the shading while simplifying the lines, as opposed to just drawing something funny with regular human features. I guess she thinks things can't be funny without stubby arms and CalArts heads. It's extra jarring next to regularly-drawn people like this:
1643737295493.png

"Sun is a Fate: Grand Order fan." Ew.

1643737416982.png

Sun also believes boobs float in water, and that three young women not in a romantic relationship with one another would be completely comfortable sitting this close while naked.

1643737750890.png

For all his talk of realism, this is incredibly against any onsen's rules.

"Sun is called "The Queen of Facial Expressions." Yet she can't make anything funny without deforming everything into a generic anime face.

NOL
NOL is only 18 and actually incredibly talented. I used her art for my music uploads a few times. Claps all around for her, besides that weird drawing of Sun's torso.

Quill
Quill is also very talented, it's a shame they were clearly overworked/rushed to the point their art degraded into this
1643737973747.png

Mupa
Mupa's quality ranged wildly. Some of these are fine and then you get things like this
1643738123033.png

1643738135678.png

"Mupa enjoyed giving the men different body types." Ah yes, ranging from weirdly circular abs to weirdly polygon-shaped abs to whatever is going on with Jaune's shoulders.
"Mupa's design for Ren was done in a way to show he could pass as a man or a woman if you don't look hard enough. The words "bisexual disaster" are mentioned." HUH? He has male pecs, no hips, broad shoulders, and armpit hair. What makes him androgynous? Having long hair?

The 'crunch' stuff really leapt out at me. Way to fall victim to the same stuff you decry RT for doing, except the people who work for RT are at least getting paid. It really does seem kind of shitty to me that Raymond doesn't compensate these people in any way, he has all these people doing tons of free labor for him due to his popularity and still has the gall to give deadlines and demand autistic changes to the art he receives. Granted, most of the art is terrible, but still. If he's making money off of it it seems shitty to me that he doesn't compensate them for their work, even with one-time commission payments.

That shit about wanting the character to look ''more tsun'' is hilarious. Pure weebism, can't stop thinking in endlessly regurgitated archetypes. Just awful. And feeds back into the fact that his mindset is stuck strictly within that dumb weeb hole with absolutely no self-awareness.

"Sun also believes boobs float in water, and that three young women not in a romantic relationship with one another would be completely comfortable sitting this close while naked."

Just like in my Japanese animes. Let's be honest, Raymond is showing an incredible amount of restraint in not having all of the girls engage in a four-way every other scene. I haven't managed to make my way through all of these stupid videos, have any cringeworthy ships been made 'canon' yet? They seem so obsessed with it I can't help but wonder what retarded pairings they're going to shoehorn in for the sake of fetishism.

This is easily my biggest complaint about Celtic, especially since any crunch is self inflicted, the guy doesn't have deadlines unless he wants them, and he has a Patreon which is a program that exists for precisely this reason.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World ruined an entire generation of women but Toonami ruined an entire generation of men.

Not even modern anime either, shitty mid 2000s moeblob anime. Modern anime is moving away from balloon tits and drawing boobs that actually look and kinda act like boobs.

Yeah, I can understand wanting a rough timeline for work to be turned in by but with a dumb internet fanfiction forcing people to 'crunch' is just ridiculous.
Scott Pilgrim vs The World ruined an entire generation of women but Toonami ruined an entire generation of men.
This is probably one of the most accurate and funniest things I've read in a long while. Dumb weebs like celtic, stuck in the early weeb mentality really are the equivalent to the quirky danger hair girls who read Scott Pilgrim. No wonder I feel such disdain for him.

If you're forcing people to crunch to meet self-imposed deadlines for your fanfiction rewrite of a show you don't like, you're a bad director.

I'd say that making his staff work crunch hours is the nail in the coffin: Raymond and the Fixing RWBY project absolutely deserve a solo thread.

I'm no Metallica fan and I'm only familiar with Master of Puppets and its notorious solo that sounded like it came from a $5 chinese toy, but bullshit he's better than them in any shape of form. Fucker must've been high as a rocket from huffing his own ass gas if he can say that with a straight face and zero self-awareness.

Also Fun little fact: Metallica inspired old DOOM OST, that's the reason why At Doom's Gate and some parts of Master of Puppets sounds similar.

Metallica sperg ahead.

Jeff literally has one style of metal - thrash and super thrash, with faux-intellectual prose lyrics and feminine off-key and screaming out his lungs that always confuses his voice with Sandy Casey's. And don't forget fast-paced wah pedals. Everything is thrown at you all at once, so it's hard to appreciate the heaviness and speed and process everything.

When It Falls: The intro, and the riffs are good, but it serves better as an instrumental song. Also, again, Jeff screaming like a banshee. And Casey is so flat during a bridge, that literally takes me out of the song. WTF. @Rhymes 19 has deciphered some of the vague, faux-intellectual lyrics, but you really should look at the second verse and the chorus.

"This is not a tra-ge-dy, It's not an ac-ci-dent! You placed your faith in fools and now you'll smo-ther in la-ment! They play the part of allies claiming peace their only goal! But once the the fight for power starts they'll eat each other whole!"

"And mankind will wilt in pain." Again, WTF!?

Bad Luck Charm: It's catchy enough that I even made a CSGO fragmovie to the song. But again. Jeff, stop with the screaming. You don't have the falsetto of Muse's Matt Bellamy or the vocal control of it either. Also, A.G. Nonsuch the cartoonist even notes how it sounds like an edgy song in a comic strip portraying Qrow as the edgelord lyricist! And her Penny art was accepted by RT for the cover art of "Friend"!

"SHAME! Hang my head in con-stant sor-row! RAIN! On every day you need the light! STRAIN! To see some fortune in tomorrow! BANE! Is what I am to e-very life!"

"A sure train wreck, and you'll soon re-gret, the day I CAME TO CALL!"

Lionize: The lyric-less solo is good, but that's about it. Jeff literally screams his lungs out. I don't know if I can tell him apart from Casey at times. Plus, the new lyrics in the full version just adds poetic whiplash to my head. You literally had a good chorus and passable verses, and yet you add this:

"Won't accept a fate of des-ti-tu-tion! Suffering is over SOON! Term-in-ate! Anni-hi-late! OUR ENEMIES MUST DIE! Destroy them all, while I am gloriFI-I-IED!"

Hero: Arguably one of the few good tracks that I like out of the RWBY discography. And most of it is due to Caleb Hyles, who combines clear baritones, and tenors. Good breakdowns in the middle, but Jeff's screaming fucks up the emotional parts of the chorus and the bridge. Saving grace is probably the slower pace, lower tone, and heavier breakdown.

"What if it's true, as they say, that I don't have a heart? That I'm more a machine than a ma-an?

What would it change? Would it matter at all? I've made my pla-an!

Hearts and minds will dis-ag-ree, e-mo-tions topple stra-te-gy, you can't be-lieve in hon-es-ty that your children can win a wa-aar?"

Casey herself is not immune. I knew that Awake was going to be a wangst-fest just from the preview. Also has that random piano riff during the chorus. And she still screams her vocal chords out at the very end.

Awake: "Si-lence fuels the dead-ly cri-i-ies! Ripped a-part by lovers' li-ies! Curse my in-no-cence goodby-e-e-e! My self portrait su-i-ci-i-de!"

Really giving me SOAD Serj Tankian vibes.

The Sky is Falling: God damn. It is not only a victim of the Loudness War mixing that jacks up the volume, but it is constantly on fast pace. I like it as an instrumental, but goddamn slow down. Casey still screams her lungs out, and Lamar is comprehensible, but he sounds so ... try-hardy kind of rap."Like, uh-huh, I'm better than you kind of way that's cringe."

Here's what Casey is trying to tell us:

"Better cover up your ears my friend, the sky is falling!"

Here's what comes into my ear:

"mumblemumblemumble THE SKY IS FALLING!"

"Let my demons live on through my legacy, study my pedigree! I NEED THERAPY!"

Oh yeah, I need therapy after listening to you.

For Every Life: Funny enough, besides Casey singing until her voice gets hoarse, this song's only other major complaint is that the solo's wah frequencies is all over the place. Master of Puppets' solo in comparison, has the wah solo gradually build up despite its high pitches. The guitar riffs and the double bass on the drums building to the chorus is good, the slower pace allows people to read the poetry in the lyrics.

"We failed to stop our own de-mise, the tragic ending's before our eyes, hope has no place he-ere!"

"Maybe the path, that leads our way home, is finally cle-ear, maybe the path, we tried to a-void, is al-ready ne-ar!"

Let's compare some of my favorite Metallica tracks, which are on the thrashier side. I'll start with Ride the Lightning to And Justice For All.

Ride The Lightning:
Fight Fire with Fire: Starts off slow, then super stresses out the riff and the lyrics.

"Fight fire - with fire, end-ing is near!"

"Soon! To! Fill our Lungs! The! Hot! Winds of Death!"

Creeping Death:

Gives room to breathe in the intro, epic theme and quotes the Bible, and plays on a more optimistic, glory sounding note, despite being about the Angel of Death Azrael and God killing the Ancient Egyptians. And epic ending riff that signals glory and triumph, not unlike ACDC'S Thunderstruck ending riff. Also, note the certain syllables are enunciated clearly.

"Slaves! Hebrews born to se-erve! To the Phay-roh! Heed! Do us every word, Live in Fear! Faith! Of the Unknown O-one! The Delive-rer! Wait! Something must be do-one! Four hundred years!"

"So let it be writ-tahn, so let it be do-one, I'm sent here by the chosen o-one! So let it be writ-tahn, so let it be do-one, to kill the firstborn Pharaoh's so-on, I'm Creeping Dea-ath!"

Master of Puppets:

Battery: Recursive, but easy to remember riffs that aren't constantly on high pitch. And the syllables are stressed, and every word, while complex, is written in a rhythmic meter. Starts off slow, then speeds up. The bridge seamlessly transitions, then into the faster solo, followed by the double bass drums and maintains the tempo, back into the third verse and final chorus.

"Crushing all decei-vers, mashing non-belie-vers, Never ending po-ten-cay!"
"Hungry violence see-ker, feeding off the wea-ker, Breeding on in-sani-tay!"

"Smashing through the boundaries! Lunacy has found me!
"Cannot stop the battery! Pounding out aggression!
"Turns into obsession! Cannot kill the battery!"

"BAT-TER-Y!"

Master of Puppets: Constantly changing complexities. Simple, universally easy to understand message about the harm drugs causes. It goes as fast and or slow as needed to match the theme of a person buying, using, and suffering from drugs. Fast and rhythmic in the two verses and chorus, slow in the middle for psychedelic high, and fast in the end for the withdrawal symptoms/social consequences for using drugs. Every verse uses simple words, but they're arranged in a way that cleverly hints at the song's themes.

"End of passion PLAY! Crumbling A-WAY! I'm your source of self-DE-STRUC-TION!"
"Veins that pump with FEAR! Sucking darkness CLEAR! Lead-ing on your death's CON-STRUC-TION!
"Taste me, you will SEE! More is all you NEED! Dedicated TO! How I'm killing YOUU!"

"Come craw-ling faster! Obey your Mas-ter! Your life burns fas-ter! Obey your ... Mas-ter! Mas-ter! Master of Puppets, I'm pulling your STRINGS! Twisting your mind and smashing your DREAMS! Blinded by me, you can't see a THING! Just call my name, and I'll hear you SCREAM!"

"Master, Master! Where's your dream that I've been after!?

Disposable Heroes: Slower in some parts, faster in others. Neatly arranged and organized to accommodate transitioning between tempo changes. From fast riff, to slower riff, to solo, repeating the bridge, then picking up on the faster riff. Simpler words are used here instead of the Oxford dictionary.

"Bodies fill the fields I see! Hungry heroes end! No one to play soldier now! No one to pretend!"
"Running blind through killing fields! Bred to kill them all! Victim of what said should be! A servant 'til I fall!"

"Soldier BOY, made of CLAY! Now an empty SHE-ELL! Twenty ONE, only SON! But he served us WE-ELL!!"
"Bred to KILL!, not to CARE! Do just as we SAY! Finished HERE, greetings, DEATH! He's yours to take A-WA-AY!"

"Why! Am I Dying!? Kill! HAVE NO FEAR! Lie! Live off ly-ing! Hell! Hell is HEERE!"

"I WAS BORN FOR DYIIIIIIINNNNGGGGG!"

Damage Inc: Very fast riffs and solo. Complex transitions during the solo but stays within one general direction: up. Lyrics are faster with medium length sentences, but again, enunciation makes it easy to follow. Also has a slower bridge.

"Dealing out the a-gon-ny With-in! Charging hard and no one's gonna gi-ive in! Living on your knees, conformi-tay! Or dying on your feet for honestaaay!!"

"Inbred, our bodies work as ONE! Bloody, but never cry submi-s-sion! Following our instinct, not a TREND! Go against the grain until the eeeennnnd!"

"BLOOD! WILL! FOL-LOW BLOOD!"

"DY-ING TIME IS HEEERRE!"

And Justice For All:

Blackened: Fast and heavy intro riffs that are easy to follow, along with stressing the last syllable at each sentence. Even has a slow section, and the lyrics are simple poetic phrases that carry the message across. This makes it heavy to take in the riffs of the music, but allows us to concentrate on one thing at a time.

"Blistering of EARTH! Terminate its WORTH! Deadly nicoTINE! Kills what might have BEEN!"
"Callous frigid CHILL! Nothing left to KILL! Never seen BEFORE! Breathing neverMORE! NEVER!"

"Fire! To begin whip-ping dance of the de-ad! Blackened! Is the E-end! To begin whip-ping dance of the de-ad! Color our world! Blackened!"

And Justice For All: Okay, so it's a slower one (I prefer the demo version), but the rhythm is catchy. Words are complex in theme, but short and simple to repeat and remember. Also the riff has a lower pitch and is repetitive, so you get to feel the heaviness of it all.

"The ultimate in-san-i-tay! Exploiting their supre-ma-cay! I can't believe the things they sa-ay! I can't believe, I can't believe the price! WE PAY!"

"Nothing can save you - Justice is LOST! Justice is RAPED! Justice is DONE! Pulling YOUR STRINGS, Justice is DONE!"

One: It starts off slow, but the end solo and riff, even with its high pitch and use of wah pedal, has a consistent feel to it - as it rises up and doesn't try to go back down.

"Ho-ld my breath as I wish for de-ea-ath, oh please God wake me!"

"DARKNESS! IM-PRISON-ING ME! ALL THAT I SEE! AB-SO-LUTE HOR-ROR! I CANNOT LIVE! I CANNOT DIE! TRAPPED IN MY-SELF! BODY MY HOLDING CE-ELL!"

"LANDMINE! HAS TAKEN MY SIGHT! TAKEN MY SPEECH! TAKEN MY HEAR-ING! TAKEN MY ARMS! TAKEN MY LEGS! TAKEN MY SOUL! LEFT ME WITH LIFE IN HE-ELL!"

Dyers' Eve: Stupid fast, but the riff is easy to decipher as a pattern. The lyrics are poetic, short, but simple to follow yet complex. And there is also a crazy fast solo with a breather section after that before going back into the main riff. Also the drum intro/outro are slow, heavy, and rhythmic.

"Dear Mother, Dear Fa-the-er! Hidden in This! World! You! Made! For! Me! I'm seething, I'm bleed-in-ng! Rip-ping wounds in me that never Heal! Undying spite I feel for YOU! Living in this hell you always KNEW!"

"Innocence! Torn from me without my shelter! Barred re-al-i-tay! I'm living blind-lay!"

Yeah, here's a more in-depth reason as to why Metallica's thrash is better than Jeff's thrash. And here I was just talking about the most well-liked fast songs from the 2nd to 4th albums. I can take the time to make a second sperg about their later work.
