Anime isn't known for printing money and RWBY recently let slip they have 800% more production costs (or more) than ever other popular anime (MHA, DBS, OPM, etc).
This is news to me but not that surprising in hindsight. Animes are basically done in sweatshops in Korea, china or Japan for pennies. Of course they are cheaper than the American animators they hired that of course demanded a lot more money and not being treated as slaves.
Or so that would be the only benefit of animating “In-house". And yet, RT animators still complained about crunch time, and being exploited by American standards. So obviously that wasn’t working. They were burning money for no reason. And with no real benefit.
Rooster Teeth could have literally just commissioned RWBY to an animation studio, you know, like how Warner Animation, the other WB subsidiary does, all the time? By spending far less money they would full seasons of high quality hand drawn anime, instead of their mediocre CGI by now.
Why the hell didn’t they do that?!
