If you look in the background of this week's episode you'll notice several shots where Stretchy-Arms stands around watching one of his team-mates fight Penny, and if that doesn't strike you as good battle tactics then I don't know what does.

Does anyone at RWBY remember the end of Season 7 where Ironwood beat the shit out of Watts? And now Watts is helping him? Okay, sure. I can't even articulate why this is laughably bad writing, as it should be obvious to anyone who's watched this travesty up to this point. Have fun with your inevitable back-stab maneuver, Watts.

If you actually see the scene, they show Watts having a bunch of guns fixed on him, meaning that if he tries anything, they'll blow him away.
But yeah, they're going all in on the "Watts will hack Penny" angle. As for the Ace Ops, the only thing is Marrow's semblance is OP and my friends talked about how to make a limit for it to make it fit better without making him look like an idiot for not using it. At least their fight scene was decent.

Jaune’s hairstyle really annoys the hell out of me. It kinda killed a good part of his charm. Or at least, it clashes with his personality.

Big agree. It's basically a blond recolor of Cardin's hair and I fucking hate it.

Devil’s advocate: Watts’ primary motivation is a mix of pride and wanting to prove himself better than Pietro. He really could not give less of a fuck about Salem’s plans in particular, and arguably would be on even more of a chopping block with her after Atlas is conquered than with Ironwood. Hacking Penny is all the motive Watts needs, because it’s a challenge that proves he’s Atlas’s top scientist.

Big devil’s advocate tho.

I think that's what the show has spelled out loud and clear that the fanbase hasn't picked up on because....reasons. The show is going all in on Watts hacking Penny and now the question is if a hacked Penny will be worth a damn.

Even if they accidentally did this (and it would be an accident) - Watts would get the "Ironwood" treatment of "he's supposed to be a villain so we're going to make him a villain" writing.

The second he gets control of Penny he's going to burn down an orphanage, a kitten orphanage, and then the hospital where any of the survivors wind up. To remind you he's a villain.

Honestly, I think that'd be the plan they do because the thing about a Hacked Penny is that Watts will use it as a mechanical slave to deal death and destruction. WHether or not it's for Salem's goals or he's having an egotistical joyride is another matter. If anything, the real question is how Penny is freed from Watts' influence, along with the aftermath.

After some consideration I actually kind of like this thread a little more. I initially wrote this off as an obvious backstabbing in the making, but whether or not Watts is doing this for Salem's benefit or to fuel his own ego revolves around one interesting bit of tension: Watts doesn't know that Penny is the new Winter Maiden. There's no way he could know that yet, unless he overheard it from the AceOps, Ironwood, or Winter.

So the question becomes: If Watts discovers that Penny is the Winter Maiden, what will he do? Will he instruct her to open the Vault and take the Relic to Salem? Or will he merely use Penny to accomplish his own ends? Either way I'm interested to see what happens with that development.

Some people are saying that this’ll end in disappointment.

It's the weird fuckboi vibe that ruins it for me. Seriously, it's generic, but there's a smug fuckboi vibe to it.

"Sometimes, you become what you hate"

Basically. And as self-insert-y as Jaune can be sometimes, I actually really liked Jaune as a character. And he seems like the last type of person to get that hairstyle.
