Didn't see a thread on it despite it having a release date for next month. I'm interested to see what kind of a turn out the game will have when it comes out, as someone who has around 4000 combined hours in Garry's Mod. Game has been in development for around 10 years.

quote taken from the steam page

"Our spiritual successor to Garry's Mod, this is a game creation platform built on the Source 2 engine. Play, create, and share games, explore community creations, and experience endless sandbox fun with powerful modern tools."

Some notable features include.
"Anyone can create games using our intuitive modern editor, creating scenes with a standard scene system and a C# API with powerful hotloading." The previous installment used Lua as a tool for making gamemodes and add-ons, sometimes would be used for mapping but not regularly as maps take up to a year to create if you actually want it to look good.

"You can publish your games directly to the platform where everyone can play it at the click of a button.

You can earn through our Play Fund from players playing your games, directly funded from cosmetic purchases"

This could possibly mean it can pose a threat to Roblox. I'm sure it won't be half as big but still a competitive edge due to much more freedom with c#, it will also be competing against untiy as a game development engine as unity primarily uses c# which leads into the next possible future feature.

"EXPORT GAMES
Or if you want, you can publish your games to Steam, royalty-free. (although we're not quite ready on this yet)"

This can also mean we will get more Source 2 games in the future as he continues to lay the ground work for this engine, as he has done previously.

Edit: Something I forgot to mention is some people got early access to this game, if youre one of them post some screenshots also forgot to mention that 1 of the people who got early access attempted to make tf2 in source 2 but it was taken down by valve. I will add more info to this when the game comes out (hopefully)

I'm really looking forwards to the sheer upgrade in stability and physics performance from Gmod. Especially since Source 2 supports maps that are larger than maybe a square mile like the first engine. It'll be nice to not have to contend with server crashes every 10 minutes when I'm hosting for my friends spamming bullshit.

I never got to play it online with other people because it was always dead. I remember a game where i was a ball jumping, and another where i was an ass taking a shit in a toilet, dont have screenshots sadly. Here's some gameplay from one of the other games in it i saw a while ago.

Its just roblox in source 2 but even shittier and with more microtransactions.

this is not source 2, not even a substitute for source 2 sdk. everything from valve is getting stripped and either replaced with some in-house solution to accompany the scene system workflow or rewritten as c# scripts. probably optimisation and system requirements won't be as good as other source 2 games.

all source engine quirks are also gone in the default game, maybe they can be recreated within specific gamemodes, but official "sandbox" gamemode is disappointing in that regard.
movement is floaty with no mid-air control or air strafing and player-to-prop collisions are so shit it reminds me of a shitty ue4 gmod clone where you can push piles of props and heavy things with no resistance at all. huge downgrade for a physics sandbox.

I hope Source 2 does get released, if only to give more engine options. Most source games ran pretty well from my memory.

As for S&box itself, it sounds set up for failure. Why bother shifting from something like Roblox that has many years and a playerbase to something that doesn't have either. I guess its nice if you were hoping to have Roblox on Steam for whatever reason.

I highly doubt this will succeed, at most it will get an extremely small and autistic player base composed of RP players.

I'm cautiously optimistic as are some of the others in this thread, the hopium is that hopefully with a public release it will attract more people that don't make roblox clones and can make the engine their own. It remains to be seen but I will remain hopeful. If after 6 months of release it doesn't turn out to be good oh well. At least someone tried it, the first ever game to release out of the Source 2 engine being slop wouldn't surprise me in this day and age though.

I wish they'd get rid of that stupid thumb-person avatar, or at least stop using it in promotional material
Yes, that is fucking annoying. While Garry's Mod was known to be "Joke: The Game - The Movie", it's annoying.
Or showcase the normal humans in promotional art, since Garry Newman & his team did it as well.

I feel as if this is the better approach. Let's see how it goes! I'm willing to have it a look.

Ugly thumb people, a Roblox structuring and it’s from a guy known for things like “no one can freeze cars because of a macOS bug” and “a hyper real email from ‘lawyers@nintendo.lfuwetnooj.net’ told me to nuke the workshop”. No thanks, I got 64-bit Gmod already.

This thread will be booming with horrific furry/troon porn mods and nightmares for years to come, I'm calling it now. Either this game is a flop or there will be so much islamic content that it will put today's G-Mod to shame.

I still find the spy kids thumb peoples for S&box to be a dumb choice. Yeah I guess it makes your style more unique, but not really appealing or funny after a while.

Will it require I install CS2 just like the original had me install CS:S?

And I don't really have much faith on it. The culture and the internet have changed way too much since the original in 2005 (21 goddamn years) and instead of the quirky shit and GMod Idiot Box you will have grooming, stalking, trannies and total faggot takeover.

I don't want to play it because the characters look like shit. Is that petty? Maybe. But it's my money and I don't have to buy your game if you decided to choose a retarded aesthetic style.

If I can't launch ragdolls of beloved characters high into the skybox then I'm not interested.

I don't think it's petty. Garry's Mod was appealing from the get-go because you knew that it was going to be funny. This game does not look funny.
