S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Stalker) Thread

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Your only hope is in all the vasyan modders like hi_flyer to pull off some insane modding tricks and then for someone who isn't a Russian factory worker to ease down the difficulty from "CBT" to "enjoyable" levels.
Calling this now, GSC will shut down in 2 years and revive in another 10 for Stalker 3.
That or keep milking Stalker 2 with the 3 (now 2) promised DLC's while going "Guyz! Buy Stalker! Or muh evul Russian will take over muh Ukrwaaaaineee
Seeing so many faggots on Reddit and YouTube celebrating the censorship of the Russian language and the devs attacking Russian modders and fans who keep the stalker series alive as a cult IP is disgusting. Russians that I had nothing to do with the Ukraine war. Along with Polish and American fans. It's the Russian fans that help everyone else mod the X-ray engine. I can get if Russia was the main villain of Stalker 2. But Stalker 2 is still mostly detached from the real world for the most part. Most of the expanded universe Stalker novels were written in Russia.

I do love seeing people pull that Ukraine law of "we dun approve of Commie and Nazi symbols" said the country that openly used SS icongraphy.

Unlicensed book slop :story:

The series used to be in an open license for use for books back then, I always like to say that Southern Comfort ruined that because it was so terrible but I always forget one or another detail when it comes to that one.

Ah, so that's why there stopped being new ones. How bad was Southern Comfort?

How bad was Southern Comfort?
The story starts by explaining how, 2 years after COP, Terrorrists explode a nuclear bomb in Afghanistan which hits an old Soviet Bunker and creaters a second Zone, Deggie sends commander Tasarov to find out why a new zone was created (the fact that it hit the bunker is the mistery), Tasarov is your usual russian novel action hero, strong badass that takes shit from no one and gets all the girls, if I recall correctly the book ends by him being let in a trible of locals and marrying an alien (or being eaten by it, I have read this book like 8 years ago and even back then I did as much as I could to forget it).
It's like, a sick ass setting for a game but, the contents are shit. The book is free to read on the internet since it can no longer be sold.

STALKER 2 will sadly never have the level of mods the OG games and Anomaly/CoC have for one reason: the xray open source has been out SO LONG that there isn't really a reason to learn UE5 modding tools, which I'm sure are much different than xray modding tools, just to do something that you can probably do in xray anyway.
Not to say that I think S2 won't have ANY mods, I'm sure that in 1-3 years once the SDK comes out of beta there will be a decent array of mods that turn S2 into something resembling a half decent STALKER game, it just wont be as robust or as popular as the OGs.
From my understanding UE has some pretty robust scripting options that are surprisingly easy to access, so I think we'll see some pretty interesting things if GSC Game World can keep people involved long enough.

Courtesy of reddit, "The uncompiled EE shaders have just been released, and apparently the entire screen space reflections thing is just taken from Anomaly 1.5.2 addon called Screen Space Shaders with minimal edits. EE on the left, Anomaly addon on the right. None of SSS authors are mentioned in the EE credits."

Speaking of, anyone here read "Roadside Picnic"? I read this version:
Roadside Picnic.webp

It's pretty good if you're into the universe or scifi.
I also watched the movie too, it's good, soundtrack is great, cinematography is great too (camera positioning, angles and stuff, i'm not a movie nerd), very memorable shots and scenes.
But it's a slow movie, +- 2h30m, other than that it's, as the kids say, "kino".
Full movie: HERE & IMDB
If you like it, check out "Solaris", also by Tarkovsky, more cool scifi

I like the way both the movie and the book portray Redrick/the Stalker's personal life and family. It's an interesting angle that's not explored throughout the games.
(haven't played Stalker 2, don't know if this applies or not)

It's out.
Patch Notes https://www.stalker2.com/news/patch-1-5

Claims of A-Life improvements, and mod support is now available in-game with a mod browser as well as steam workshop and mod.io. Mod kit can be downloaded at https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/stalker-2-zone-kit

The community manager on reddit said "we launched the Zone Kit as Phase 1, because we want to develop it together with Mod Makers. It already has a lot of features, but still this is Phase 1. On Phase 2 there will be even more things to do with the Zone via the Zone Kit."
THE SDK IS 700 GB LOL

From what I can see this update is really damn good, especially A-Life, from the closed beta testing it looked like it wasn't all that fine but maybe that was because I didn't test it that well back then, but looking at it further it appears like it genuinely does what it says on the tin, maybe even be called A-Life, if Im feeling happy on that day.

The modkit is what is disappointing about this updated, from talking to people who were in the modkit closed test, it's fucked sideways and raw, not only is three fourth's of the game uncompressed bundled with the SDK, it is also limited (which was expected from a beta phase 1 so no suprises there), but when it comes to the thing's they do support, its patchy or really really buggy, like how you can't have more than one blueprint mod or the game crashes, or how scripting is fucked because the game doesn't have enough hooks, or how localization isn't yet possible so, even if you do manage to put a new gun and new animations there it'll have the same name and description as the template you used to put it there.
As it stands from what I understand, you can do everything well as long as you copy paste it from something that already existed in the code, like, if you want to put a new armour in the game you copy paste an existing armour and modify the new armour to your specifications, but if you do something outside of that, you're going to have problems.
Having said that, appears like it's known problems, I may be a sucker but I'm starting to be positive.

That's pleasantly surprising to hear. That the SDK actually works, I mean and is functional, complete with download capabilities.
